Okay, my dear:

Not only do you need to change the filter, but if you don't change it every couple of months, you should vacuum it with the crevice attachment EVERY week!!!!! I'm not kidding, it makes a huge difference. So that means your mom is probably due to change the one she replaced already, or at least vacuum it.

You also need to contact a reputable heating company to come out and clean yor furnace twice a year. I believe that is considered standard maintenance.

You can't afford to be lazy about this, especially if you are expending so much energy running to doctors and Bioset (I am not implying that you shouldn't be, just that you're shooting yourself in the foot if your household air is poisoning you the minute you return home!!).

Sorry if I sound so stern--it's just that I care--very much!

Alison...I appreciate all of it.

I didnt know they should be cleaned so frequently.

Yeah....no WONDER the heaters are killing me. :o My house is 7 years old and I havent had anyone come to clean the furnace yet because I didnt know it was necessary.

Shoot...I guess I'm poisoning myself worse. :(

Patti had mentioned that someone needs to come clean all the ducts....that molds, dust and other allergens can collect in there. Is this the same as having the furnace cleaned?? This is the first home I've ever owned and everything was new when we moved in so I didnt really worry about having anything cleaned....plus I never knew about the proper heater maintenance....just that the filters needed to be changed every so often.

What about fans....there are fans in every bathroom and in the laundry room. The crevices of those have dust also. I should get up there and clean those too??

Thanks for your help. :)

The worst thing happened last night. :(

I was so happy cuz I had that seen that cute movie and had fun...I was driving home....realized my cheeks were hurting from smiling. I just wanted to enjoy the rest of my night and relax.

I have a cat and when I leave on Monday mornings I always shut all the bedroom dorrs upstairs except for one. I dont want my cat sleeping on my bed since I'm allergic to everything. Sometimes he tries to be sneaky....he knows when I leave I'm gonna shut the doors so he'll try to hide in my room.

He'll try to sneak into my closet, go under my bed or hide behind the door.....very sneaky kitty. <_<

I always have to make sure hes not hiding in one of the rooms before I shut the doors. Last week I couldnt find my keys before I left so was frantically looking everywhere...thought I'd be late for work. I was going in and out of the rooms....finally found the keys in the most obvious place....right by the front door. Stupid brainfog.

So I get home last night and when I open my bedroom door....I'm overwhelmed by a funky smell. Ceasar had hid in my room and got locked in there for 5 days! :o He is perfectly fine....he didnt even seem to lose any weight. He didnt have food or water all week but he was perfectly fine....how is that possible??

He had done his business all over my bed. :(

I had to throw away my comforter, pillowcases, comfortor cover, sheets....everything. :(

Now I have to buy a new comfortor. It totally sucked....my room smelled like pee. :(

I'm really glad it was on my bed rather than the carpet...but still....it sucked. My new electric blanket was underneath all of the bedding...so it survived....thank God because I would have froze without it. I wouldnt turn the heater on because I havent changed the filter yet. I couldnt go to bed until I washed and dried the electric blanket.

On top of that....because I'm soooo sensitive to smells...the smell was still lingering in my room. I ended up spraying some kind of air freshener...perfumey stuff all over my room. OMG....what was I THINKING!!!

So then I was dying from that and had to leave my window open all night to air out the room...woke up with a sore throat. :(

It was soooo WRONG....a good night that turned into a not so good night. Oh well....its all cleaned up...I gotta go shopping for new bedding and air filters now.

If I have time I'll post a pic of the sneaky kitty later. He's sleeping on my lap right now....purring away....doesnt even care that all my bedding is now in the trash.

Me too. I registered there a couple of weeks ago, but haven't posted...may not post there until I find out for sure that Lyme is really even a possibility, but I've been reading (well, up until I went on vacation, lol).

Rachel, thank Heavens your kitty is okay! Maybe he could come with you to your mom's next time?

Do you have a box fan or a window fan? You could put it in the window and turn it on high and blow lots of nice fresh air in (leave the bedroom door open and a window open somewhere else in the house so the bad smelly air leaves the bedroom).

Yes, you need to dust the fan blades. Also the tops of the window and door frames. Since you are so sensitive to chemicals, don't use Pledge or any dusting spray. You could use some diluted Simple Green on a rag..

Having the ducts cleaned is not the same as having the furnace cleaned, but it is probably a good idea, too, especially as you never changed the filter. I have never had it done, but I know people who swear by it. I sort of do it myself with an extra-long vacuum cleaner hose attachment, but I'm sure it's not as effective as the pros.

Sounds like the new year will be a fresh start for you, indeed!

I want to possibly take antibiotics briefly and then redo my Lyme tests...or do the urine test for Lyme bacteria. Still thinking about it.

Hi Again,

I found it. I would love to know more about the urine test for lyme bacteria.

For more years than i can count, my urine tests have always come back with bacteria. I used to go on antibo all the time. Last 9 years just take cranberry capsules and it detures it..Did have a full blown UTI after returning from Mom's funeral where i ran a 103 temp and went on Clyndmycin. This was before the celluitis end of May this year.

So never could figure out what the bacteria was..all said.."it's just me..that's the way i test..

So if there is a test that picks this bactera up woud like to discuss with dr tomorrow.

Another question..in a argument for the enderol lab tests for genes for celiac.....

If you don't have the genes for celiac disease, how can the lymes trigger it if you have to have the gene.??

then it would be lyme based gluten intollerance, correct.

anyone jump in here..i'm open and trying to get prepared.

thanks all.

Gluten intolerance can still cause other damage, but yes, if you don't have the celiac genes it would be pretty safe to say you don't have celiac but gluten intolerance. Of course, if they are still studying this so who knows if they'll say another gene can tend towards celiac.

We are doing good. Been watching the special Little House Release that has the 3 wrap up specials from after Season 9. Dad is doing well as far as I know. He sounds good. Just talked to him today.

My brother did fine after adding back in gluten Friday. I told him a reaction could be delayed by about 3 days. He doesn't know about his test yet.

Glad you got something from Rinne. :)

Judy,

The spirochete "wormy things" () dont "eat" brain cells...at least I dont think they do.

Lyme Disease causes major brainfog....confusion, short-term memory loss, disorientation (going to the wrong places etc.), lack of concentration....all kinds of cognitive stuff.

The bacteria produces toxins....neurotoxins. I think this may have alot to do with the brain stuff.

Heres a link about that

Open Original Shared Link

About the urine test....its usually recommended for people who have problems testing positive in the Western Blots. The Western Blots are antibody tests but sometimes the immune system is too weak and not producing the antibodies....even though the Lyme is there....so the test is false negative.

I went to Igenix and talked to the director...he gave me the kit for the urine tests and explained it all to me.

The urine test looks for the actual particles of the Lyme bacteria and its DNA. There are false negatives with this test too but if there is any Lyme DNA found....or pieces of dead bacteria....then its a *sure* thing.

You're supoosed to do a specific sort of antibiotic challenge before you take the test....to kill some bacteria so that there is a higher chance of it showing up in the urine.

It would probably be better to have the Igenix Western Blots before trying the urine test. Its mainly for people who get inconclusive or negative Western Blots.

Let us know how everything goes tomorrow.

Judy - praying for a good, productive appointment for you today! I'm kind of excited about it, lol. You're going very well prepared, so I'm very hopeful!

Grrrr...woke up today with a bad sore throat. I'm staying home from work cuz I'm not feeling good, but really can't afford to stay home...after vacation I only have 3 days (well 2 after today) of time off left. I'm drinking some white tea (doctor said it has antioxidants) and will take some Vit. C today as well.

I have a chiropractic/PT appointment today and will call as soon as their office opens to see if I can keep it...maybe they can do a quick test for strep throat just to be safe (that's what I had last year in October which made me so sick). Not sure that the HN doctors can do that test or not though.

jerseyangel Proficient

Donna--I'm sorrry about the sore throat  I hope it's not streph--maybe you picked up a cold while still on vacation. Get some rest today :)

Judy--I agree, you're going in today well prepared! I think it's extremely important that you get this yeast problem under control. Hope the appointment is productive--thinking about you this morning. Will talk to you later, of course B)

Andrea--I'm glad your dad is doing ok and that you spoke to him. It will be interesting to see how your brother's gluten challenge plays out.

Rachel--OMG about your cat! Glad the kitty is ok and hope your bedroom is none the worse for wear once you replace the linens. It's amazing how long they can go without food and water--when we first moved here 6 years ago, my cat (an indoor cat) got out and stayed lost for 8 days! When he was finally returned to us, he was thinner, tired-looking but bounced back quickly.

When we had our furnace ducts cleaned, it included cleaning of the furnace itself. Also, they did all of the grates and fans. Basically everything including the filter (which we do change frequently, anyway) One caution--some companies will want to cut into your ducts to put in their vaccum equipment. A good company who knows what they're doing will not need to do this--they will locate the duct over or nearest to the furnace and use that at the register. Ask at the time you make the appointment--we just didn't feel comfortable with cutting holes in the main duct. ;)

Good morning to everyone! :D

HI

I did a post earlier yesterday on this subject.

can you share more or direct me to s sight on the ways you can test for yeasts = candidia..they are the same..tho yeasts can be different so need different treatment, right/

went on some web site but still don't seem to get it.

have dr apt where i want to address this a seeing him for yeast overgrowth.

Carla recommended the 'the yeast defence' book. did you find it helpful too?

judy in philly

Judy-

I had my tsting done with Genova Diagnstics- their website is www.GDX.com I think. The test I had is the C D S A/P Purge Random. The book the yeast connection I think this is what your talking about was the first thing I bought years ago when i found out about the candida it was reallly interesing time at the time but to me its more of a basic thing it covers alot and I found can be alittle too broad or something- I felt like it was a good starting point becasue I didn't know much about yeast at all but there are definitly other sources out there. I don't know if that makes sense.

Thanks...there were a gazillion kiddies at Disneyworld of course, and they weren't being hunted down with hand sanitizers like on the ship, lol. Hoping it's only a cold. Throat feels slightly better after the tea, so pretty sure it isn't strep cuz nothing seemed to help THAT last year, lol.

Yep--with that many kiddo's around, it could very well be a cold--glad the tea is making it feel better.

Miamia,

I'm glad you checked in with us. I've been wondering how you were doing but wasn't real concerned as at least you had logged in to read.

I wonder if you could do the salt/vit c or take a short course of antibiotics to try to wake up the lyme (assuming you have it). I know antibiotics are terrible for the candida though. Have you looked into doing the bioset? What about checking in with the LLMD in your area and taking your tests to him?

Andrea-

My doctor and I both agree it might be worth it for me to do a short course of antibiotics and then get ttesting done but because I am so sesitive he dosen't think I will be able to take an oral antiibiotic so he wants to do it through a shot- I weigh to little to do it intrevenously. The thinkg is the shots can be really expensive and the only way they are covered at all is if you ahve some sort of diagnosis and prove its totally necessary so he is giving me alot of tests to see if we can get one. He is very cool in this way he knows I don't have alot of money so he really does want to help me in that department as well. I have looked alittle into bioset I am intersted in it I am going to call this acupuncturist he reccomended to me and see if he has ever heard of it. My doctor said he had seen mixed results with it and wasen't sure if I would benefit or not.

jmartes, Thank you for sharing  more information with us. Most of us Celiacs whose problems do not clear up with in a few years have to decide what to do next. We can keep seeing DR.s and hope that we will get some  medication or advice that will improve our health. Or we can go looking for other ways to improve our health. Usually Celiac Disease is not a killer disease, it is a disabling disease as  you have found out. You have time to find some ways to help you recover. Stay on your gluten-free diet and be more careful in avoiding cross contamination . KnittyKitty  and others here can give you advice about avoiding some foods that can give you the gluten auto immune reaction and advice about vitamins and supplement that help celiacs. You may need to take higher doses of Vit. B12  and D3.  About 20 years before a Dr. suggested I might have Celiac disease I had health problems that all other Dr said they could not identify or treat. I was very opposed to alternative providers and treatments. So many people were getting help from a local healer I decided to try that out. It was a little helpful but then, because I had a good education in medical laboraties she gave me a book  to read and what did I think. With great skeptism I started reading and before I was half way through it I began using the methods outlined in the book. Using those herbs and supplements I went from hardly able to work to being able to work almost fulltime. I still use that program. But because I had undiagnosed celiac disease by 10 years later some  of my problems returned and I started to loose weight.    So how does a person find a program that will benefit them? Among the programs you can find online there are many that are snake oil scams and some that will be beneficial. by asking around, as I did. Is there an ND in your area? Do they reccomend that person? If you would like to read about the program I use go to www.drclark.net

It's unfortunate that they won't work with you on this, but in the end sometimes we have to take charge of our own health--which is exactly what happened to me. I did finally get the tests done, but only after years of going down various rabbit holes and suffering. Just quitting gluten may be the best path for you at this point.

My doctor didn't take the time to listen to anything. I don't even think she knows what it means. She is more concerned about my blood pressure that is caused by her presence than anything else and just wants to push pills at me. The so-called dermatologist wouldn't do a skin test. she prescribed all of these silly antihistamine skin meds. This lady didn't even know what she was talking about and said "they never turn out as celiac, they usually just say it's dermatitis so here's your meds," just like my regular quack. I'm trying to change insurance companies at the moment and that has been a battle because of red tape, wrong turns, and workers having wrong phone numbers. What a joke! The allergy blood days say I have a wheat allergy of .31. Hopefully it's just that and until I find a decent doctor and dermatologist, I'll just lay off the wheat anyway, since it gives me asthma, high blood sugar, and joint pain. So frustrated at this point. The rash on my back of arms/elbows is mostly gone. Both calves and chest have started up. smh. It comes and goes. It fades faster now, though, although my forearms still produce one or two bumps on each side. The itching has calmed down a lot except for the bump area. I have dry skin to begin with so anything affecting it just makes it crazy. i'm never going to eat wheat again. I don't care if they need it to produce results or if it is just an intolerance, allergy, or celiac. It gives me hell.

I had the test done by one of the specialist through second pcp I had only a few months because he was saying I wasn't.Even though Im positive HLA-DQ2 .My celiac is down played.I am with new pcp, seeing another girl doctor who wants to do another breathe test next month though Im positive sibo this year.I have high blood pressure not sure if its pain from sciatica or sibo, ibs or hidden gluten. Im in disability limbo and I should have never been a bus driver because im still suffering and trying to heal with zero income except for my husband. This isnt fare that my health is dictating my living and having ti beg for being revalidation of my disregarded celiac disease. Its an emotional roller coaster I don't want to be on and the medical made it worse.New pcp new gi, exhausted, tired and really fed up. GI doctor NOT girl..
