While we're on the subject, may I just mention my new developement? well, relatively new, as in the last year of my life......

I could VERY EASILY eat a thousand, yes, an ENTIRE THOUSAND, of many things. I have got an insatiable craving for food that I've never had in my life, since going gluten-free. It makes me FURIOUS. So, in order to stay a size six, I limit my food intake to low carbs/high protein w/ veggies and fruit, I have joined the climbing gym and work out faithfully at least three times a week, and also, I never really get to buy anything good (like chips, etc) as cannot have it in the house - except the week before my period, when I am just a major COW and eat like there's no tomorrow.

but for fun, thought I'd compile a list of

things I could eat a thousand of.....and I am NOT kidding!

1. doughnuts - WITH gluten - plain cake doughnuts with chocolate glaze.....*sigh* :(

2. chocolate chip cookies with walnuts and gluten

3. KC's masterpiece blend barbecue chips "serving size one-half cup" - - - MY ARSE!!!!!! <_<

4. one thousand pieces of delicious, moist cake, any kind, with gluten

5. one thousand cups of homemade rice pudding (but Trader Joe's would do)

6. NUGGETS - milk chocolate with almonds......

7. ONE THOUSAND homemade butter cookies with pecans

8. unfrosted strawberry Pop Tarts, toasted with butter :( (this was dinner at my house frequently - good times!)

9. banana-nut muffins, warmed, with butter and gluten (Um, just made some Namaste and it WAS NOT the same. Harrumph!)

10. those really hot, evil Cheetos - - I call them Devil Cheetos.....

well that's it for now. possibly more later. Notice there is not one healthy thing on there. My best friend once wrote, in one of those forward emails all abour yourself, that her favorite foods to pig out on are salads and garden tomatoes. There is something WRONG with her.

maybe we ALL could, for fun and in celebration of Rville, post THINGS WE COULD EAT 1,000 OF......

:)

Hi everyone.

A quick drive by as I've got some back reading to do...I sorta skimmed through and only looked at pictures. :P

Donna...thats a cute pic of you. :)

Laura, Andrea and Patti...I love all the wedding photos. I cant put my own up yet...well...cuz I havent actually had a wedding yet. :P Heck I might not ever have a wedding at this rate!! :o

Maybe check the OMG thread in 5 years...maybe you'll see my wedding pic up.

Laura...I love how in your pic you can see all the rice in the air......it is rice right??

Anyways...its beautiful. :)

Hi Peace...welcome back!!! :)

I'm still doing BioSET....matter of fact I just got home from my appt. right now. I'll give a quick update later. ;)

I don't think the test is horribly expensive. The girls back at the nurses station went over all the costs with me for all the tests, but since I had 7 tests, I don't remember what was what. They gave me a sheet of paper with all the tests and costs, etc. I wish I had my paper in front of me--I have it at home with all the prices written down and which ones billed insurance.

Thanks Donna.....I found out that LabCorp is "in network" so my insurance does cover it 85%. I never found out exactly what the cost is since it doesnt matter now that I know its covered. :)

So yeah...I shoulda just had them draw the blood on Tuesday but I didnt know for sure how much of it would be covered.

Now the only problem is that I might have to prolong the testing till next week. Its already gonna be Thursday tomorrow so I dont know if its too late in the week.

I'm gonna call Dr. S's office tomorrow and see if I can go after work....I have a feeling its too close to the weekend and they'll want me coming back Monday or Tuesday.

Okay, I gotta go look for mine...it's funny though you guys...I got married in Lake Tahoe, in Love Chapel, by Reverend LOVE. No kidding!! In one photo, I am cracking up so badly that I made everyone else laugh...it was kind of corney...the whole thing.

no, not rice, BUBBLES!

Salad and tomatoes, there is definately something wrong with that woman!!!

We were in Phoenix for a business trip and I was very good and didn't order dessert at any of the fancy restaurants we ate at. The last night, there was a dinner/dance. They served creme brulee for dessert. The guy next to me left early, so right there in front of people I didn't know, I ate mine and half of his! :o:lol:

A thousand of something? Well, it'd take me at least 500 days to drink a thousand lattes! I like Ruffles, but I couldn't eat 1000 of them! In fact, my appetite is so poor, I don't think there is anything I could eat 1000 of!

Rachel--24 Collaborator
Cheryl, are you CRAZY???!!! :P I can't wait to be a grandmother!!!! But then again, I'm not a worrier ... I don't know why, but I just don't worry about things.

Carla my mom is always amazed that you have 6 kids!! She always says she doesnt know how you do it!

She said she thinks maybe you're the crazy one!! :P

She said some people can just handle it better...and apparantly shes not one of them. She gets too stressed out...she worries about too many things. Not just my health but my bills, my job, my driving (what if I get pulled over, get in an accident, etc.). Heck...I think she worries every night if I might be sick in the morning and not be able to go to work. She worries every time I walk out the door.

And thats just me...then there is my brother to worry about too.

She said it wasnt so bad for the 10+ years that I was not under her roof...she didnt worry as much then.

The night I met Mark, I was on a date with another guy (the prom date :P ). I literally turned the corner to go to the dance floor area and he was sitting right there, straight ahead of me. He smiled at me and I smiled back--he was really cute

We've been together ever since our first date :D

Patti...reading that just made me smile. Very sweet. :)

Rachel--24 Collaborator
I had to look up "rube"! It said "unsophisticated country person"!!!:lol::lol:

ROFL.... :lol::lol:

Patti...I happen to think you're very "sophisticated"!! ;)

My dad's wife's son is a moving truck driver so he dropped the stuff off on his way through here.

Andrea....I'm glad you were able to get some of your Dad's stuff. :)

Good luck with the LP's

I also have a plant that my parents had when I was a CHILD!!! It's been alive all these years...I took it when he died. Poor plant is not thriving though. I'm thinking of getting rid of it anyway because I am POSITIVE there is mold there and it's close to my bedroom. :(

Wow Donna....I'm truely amazed by this!!! :o

I had no idea plants could live this long?? They certainly dont have that kind of life span for me. <_<

I'm lucky if I can keep a plant alive for one month!!

Its really sad that its got mold. :(

Maybe you could put it outside??

Right now I'm so thankful that I DO have six kids! They have been a HUGE help! They all split up the housework and laundry. They take care of me when Adam is at work if I'm having a bad health day. They are always coming to me and asking me if there's anything they can do for me. My 10 year old son is always asking if I want him to make me some detox tea. It's been great.

It's different with six kids. You can no longer do it all. People with one or two kids still do everything for their kids, generally speaking. With six kids, they have to be participants in the running of the household.

The modern version of Cheaper By the Dozen is a very poor illustration of life in a big family! All these teenagers sitting in their own rooms, but the dad thinks the little kids need a nanny? That wouldn't happen because that's not how big families work. Each person contributes according to their abilities.

I'm not a worrier. I tend to take things as they come. I'm strict and they're disciplined, but if someone's sick, someone's sick. I guess that's why I've been able to emotionally handle my own illness. It's just how it is. I don't really think about what I'm missing out on. I live in the moment ... this moment has it's own concerns, I'd flip out if I thought of tomorrow or next week!

I put everything into Outlook. The kids know that. They leave me notes so I can put their stuff on my calendar. This is what allows me to live day by day.

I could be crazy. I've never really been accused of being normal. But I wouldn't trade my kids for anything. If I felt better during pregnancies, I'd probably have a couple more!

Even my spiritual director, a priest, told me I was weird! He asked if we were living in the same house as last time we lived here ... when I told him we did, he said it was a weird house, weird like me! :o It didn't insult me because I remember the first time he was walking through the house, he stopped, walked back into a room and announced that he LOVED this house! I asked him what he meant, he said that it wasn't bad, it was just there was depth to my personality. <_< He thinks my car is weird, too. I think I'm unpredictable ... Adam still can't judge how I'm going to react to something or what I'll say ... and I know exactly how he'll react!

I have a plant that started as a cutting from a plant at work when we first got married, so it's about 22 years old. It's some kind of ivy or philodendron or something. I cut it back once in a while and it thickens up. I've taken cuttings off it and started other plants.

It's the ONLY kind of plant I don't kill, well, except for small palm trees. I'm not bad with Christmas cactus, but they only last a few years with me.

I think wellness is a loop and what goes wrong one place causes everything to be off balance so yes, I think a heart that has been hurt and the hurt unhealed can contribute to illness. And it makes sense to me that if you were ill it would be more difficult to heal the hurt which contributes to the loop.....

Rinne...I swear you just have an amazing way with words. :)

In my case my body broke months before my heart got broken. I dont feel like the heartbreak is contributing to my unwellness anymore...but I also dont think my heart is ready to love again and my body certainly isnt ready to move on...so I'm just kinda "stuck"...because my body wont mend itself yet. :(

I know for me that becoming a grandmother lifted me up and encouraged me to keep leaning toward health, to not give up. I will post a picture at some point, I won't make promises, you all may be seeing this photo of me for a long time. Just think, it only took me about eight months to get it posted.

So glad for that precious little granddaughter of yours....I'm glad that she brought you strength. :)

I love that photo of you...its adorable....leave it up as long as you like. ;)

 Carla - - these are not children, they are POD PEOPLE. :P But seriously, this just really shows good parenting. Not all large families are like this - you and Adam have done a really good job. And you do make it seem easy! What a blessing that they take care of you now.

I don't know if I could eat 1000 of anything.

Andrea - - lucky you. I am just utterly RAVENOUS most of the time and could eat like there's no tomrrow, at any given time. I know this thread isn't the place to post about that.....will have to research this elsewhere. And I know there aren't deficiencies in my diet...it's very healthy and well-rounded. I don't know what it is, but I am newly obsessed with food, and I don't like it. :( For the first time in my life, I understand what others go through with food cravings and weight issues, and I really sympathize.

I can't believe I posted on the 1000th page without even knowing it was.

It is truly amazing, thank you Rachel. Of course, you couldn't have done it without us

Nope...of course there could be no Rachelville without all of the Rachelvillians. :P

The OMG thread could have ended on page one....but we're now past 1000 pages...because of everyone here contributing and caring and offering support to each and every poster on this thread. Thats whats so special about it... :)

I got so involved in my epsom salt bath I totally forgot the danged peas!

Great idea Donna!! I think I'm due for an epson salt bath. I had one last week...I'm gonna try for one a week. :)

Holy cow! I wish you lived near me! I'm a perfectionist, but don't have the energy to clean my house how I would like it!

I was almost OCD with cleaning before I got sick. Everything had to be perfect all the time...the house, my car, the yard. Heck...no wonder I got so chemically sensitive...I was constantly cleaning everything.

Anyways....I'm totally over the whole "cleaning" thing now. I hate it...its not enjoyable anymore cuz cleaners bother me, vacuuming bothers me, dusting bothers me, etc. I think I need a maid. :P

Thank you. I do look at my kids and I'm amazed ... I just don't think that Adam and I are that good at this, but by looking at the kids you would think we were!

The only thing I can see that we do that others do not always do is that we put our marriage before anything. I don't fully understand the impact this has on the kids, but I think that in the end, they are imitating our dedication to each other. They are copying what we do. I wait on Adam (when I'm healthy), and he waits on me. Our goal of each day is when we'll spend time together. There's really nothing selfish in our relationship. It's just like it was when we were dating, only better.

The kids come second. They know this. It's not as harsh as it sounds ... they know that if it weren't for Adam's and my relationship, they wouldn't exist! We have to work on our relationship ... I think this has also given us a unified front in discipline! Yet at the same time, the kids know they're important, too.

Funny thing is, I never liked babysitting and I never was crazy about kids ... I'm crazy about my own and about babies, but never had any interest till I had my own. On the other hand, my 11 year old daughter was cutting out baby pictures from the Pottery Barn kid's catalogue that came today. She is both boy crazy and baby crazy!! :o

Okay, time for bed. Good night all!

Susan, I LOVE the picture of the sleeping dogs.

Oddly enough, this is the thing I miss the most. I couldn't eat 1000 though ... I just want one ... then maybe another in a couple weeks.

Oh, and I miss those McGriddles ... they are tasty even if they leave a curious film on your teeth when you're done eating them ... kind of like the way spinach does.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline, Q10, Selenium, D and DHEA.     Choline supplemented as phosphatidylcholine decreases fasting and postmethionine-loading plasma homocysteine concentrations in healthy men +

@catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
