Jin,

Another thing I've been meaning to mention. A few months ago my best friend had her period and it didnt go away...she just kept bleeding. She went to the Dr. and the first thing they said was that the most common cause for that are polyps and they scheduled an ultrasound to see what was going on.

Sure enough...she had a polyp. They said she needed surgery to have it removed. It took her a couple months to get around to the surgery and her cycle was all a mess during that time...she was just bleeding off and on the whole time.

She had her surgery a couple weeks ago and they found like 5 or 6 more polyps and removed them all. The polyps were the cause of the persistent bleeding.

Have they ever checked you for this??

He can stick his head in the sand if he wants, but that very well could be why my grandmother has Alzheimer's now, and how he may end up with it!

Mercury is very strongly linked with Alzheimers. I think all neurotoxins can play a role in the destruction of brain cells...but certainly mercury is the at the top of the list.

The effects of neurotoxins are cummulative. Suppose a person has amalgam....gum chewing significantly increases the rate of mercury vapors released from the fillings...this is pretty well known if you've ever looked into mercury/amalgams.

Most gum nowadays contains aspartame....so in chewing gum...you are not only absorbing greater amounts of mercury vapor...but also you are bringing in another neurotoxin (aspartame) at the same time!

Not to mention other things we consume daily like flouride, MSG, pesticides, preservatives, food dyes, etc....all very toxic to the body and all contributing to the toxic burden which may have started from exposure to mercury from amalgams.

The WORST time I ever had during my illness was when I still had my fillings and crowns and was chewing gum everyday. I was chewing ALOT of gum because at the time I had quit smoking and needed something in my mouth. I was already poisoned but my symptoms during that time became SEVERE and SCARY.

I did make the connection after looking at the ingredients on the gum. I didnt know what aspartame was so I looked it up online....after I did some reading I never picked up another stick of gum. That was in 2003 and I havent chewed gum since.

So here's two videos about amalgam fillings...

I've posted them before but I'm posting again for anyone new.

This first one is the one that I saw at the dentist office a few years ago...the video is what really made me realize how serious all this really is. Its called "The Smoking Tooth"

This one is also very informative and eye-opening.

Miamia, that was funny about the smoked salmon. ;) What else do you like to eat?

Today I made "pork and beans" with organic ground pork, onions, garlic and black beans and on the side steamed chard with lime juice on it. I was feeling so 'carla' about my diet today, not a rinne bar in sight  and then chocolate jumped out of the fridge and into my hands without my even noticing.:lol:

There are days when I think Candida runs the show and I'm just along for the ride.

Rinne-

My tastes have changed since being sick but over all there about the same. I don't have much of a sweet tooth the only sweet I really love is ice cream, or frozen yogurt- (possibly rinne bars?) . I love smoked salmon!! I actually love mos things smoked. A few things I eat now I love toast with smoked salmon , butter(now butter substitute) thinly sliced cucumbers and red onion. I make a thin crust pizza with hommade sauce some ground lamb caramamlized red onions and sauteed spinach. I am a dork and love spinach . I make a few pasta dishes usuallly with olive oil fish and vegees. I ahve this good reipe for a creamy pasta dish with smoked salmon. I use tofutti creamcheese with it I kow it sounds weird but its really good!!! Tofutti cream cheese has soy which I try to avoid but as long as I carla it and don't rachel it I can have alittle of it. I make alot of these paste/ spreads with seeds( pumpkin or sunflower) ground up with olive oil and vegees and put them on corn tortillas.

Donna-

Well apparently I am destined to NOT sleep. <_< (that was as close to a sleep smilie as I could get, lol). I could NOT get to sleep. The last time I looked at the clock it was 11-something, so I know it was after midnight when I finally dozed off. Then, as is my usual pattern, I kept waking up every hour. Finally, at 4 I just decided there was no use. :P I got up around 5:15 and ate.

I got my report from my ART session. They found lots of bacteria and fungal stuff: Borrelia, Babesia, Ehrlichia, Bartonella, HSV1, H Pylori, Listeria monocytogenes, plus some non specific stuff on 4 other bacterial/fungal CDs.

If anyone wants more detailed info about WHAT he or any of my other practitioners suggests/suggested to take for any of this you can PM me.

More in my reply to Rachel below...

Donna, I had totally forgot about ART today!!

I was surprised when I read this....sheeesh....hope I dont forget my own next weekend!

It seems like from both of your ART sessions Lyme is showing up as your main issue?? Did he test metals at all?

I hope nothing else shows up for me next weekend...I dont need any additional co-infections or anything else.

I cant take any EFA's either....I havent even tried in a couple years. I used to take a fish oil EFA and it kept messing me up so I tossed it. I've since read that yeah....fish oils can contain mercury...another thing I totally overlooked.

I just avoid anything having to do with fish now. I was curious if your EFA contained fish oil.

Don't worry, we won't let you forget! :P Yes, Lyme is apparently my main issue...seems weird to me, but he found it so clearly both times. And, both times the organ most affected is my thyoid...even stranger. So, this may be why I have so many thyroid symptoms, but it never shows up on thyroid testing...there's nothing actually WRONG with the thyroid, but it's being surpressed or affected somehow by the lyme.

He DID test metals and that was showing up big time as well. I had sort of dropped down the amount of stuff I was taking for that by stopping the chlorella and lowering the amount of pectasol I was taking, but he really thinks I need to continue both of those. Fortunately ALL my doctors think the same way. :P BUT, I am starting the chlorella at a lower dose...today I only took 1/2 teaspoon instead of the full teaspoon that Anna said to take.

The differences this time were the types of bacteria...last time he didn't find so many, and they weren't specific. Also my supplements tested differently...he found 4 that are either blocking me or are just not adding anything...that's great...hate taking stuff. :P I DO suspect that things will be at least little different for both of us each time because we are beginning to treat...albeit slowly....the different stuff.

The EFAs do not contain mercury...I bought them directly from Dr. S who assured me they did not have mercury...I stare at the shelf in Whole Foods and I am just overwhelmed, so these seemed like the best choice. I HAVE tried others in the past and have not done well on them for one reason or another.

I like anythin better in a powder it takes out the issue of reacting to something in the capsule or covering plus I have grown to hate swallowing pills

I hate swallowing them too....that was the MAIN reason why I started taking everything out of the capsule, but then gelatin started showing up on BioSET, so I figured it might be important to not swallow so many gelatin capsules, lol.

There are days when I think Candida runs the show and I'm just along for the ride.

Wish I didn't know how true THIS is. :P

More stuff on mercury....

You post info like this so often and yet, I'm often just in shock over it, lol. Calomel in beauty cream...fortunately I don't use much of that stuff, and I use mineral makeup, but sheesh, who would think about this stuff...I DO dye my hair (or have it dyed at the salon more accurately).

(I'm not too sure about that. I looked at CDC on this and she didn't meet alot of there requirements....but some).

I'm not so sure I would soley trust what the CDC says on anything, but that's just my angry-over-the-lyme-thing with them thing. :P:lol:

Those shoes and that robe sound so cute and cozy! You know what I love? I would love to have those Marabou slippers! You know, the heels with the feathers on them? Those are so cute!

Cute, but would they be comfortable? :P The first thing I did this morning when I got out of bed was to put on my pink furry flip flops.

About the low blood sugar....shaking, dizziness, feeling hot, etc. I had all that when I first went on the candida diet and cut out carbs and sugars. It was VERY bad....I was shaking and NEEDING candy and pasta. I would feel weak...like I was gonna pass out. I remember one time I was trembling as I tore open a snickers bar...I couldnt get it in my mouth fast enough....and I thought I would pass out if I didnt eat it.

I think alot of it is cravings and withdrawl...in my case it passed. You get past it and the cravings stop. I stayed on the diet totally free of carbs and sugar for 4 months and I never experienced those symptoms after the initial withdrawl...once everything passed I was feeling TONS better than I'd felt while still eating those foods.

Exactly what happened to me only it wasn't a snickers bar that I had to inhale... :P The craving for sugar that candida can produce is truely amazing and it can most certainly affect body functions. I was extremely weak and shakey the first time I went low carb, but after the first two-three weeks, I had more energy than you can imagine and the cravings stopped. Completely.

All my problems started again when I started taking little bites of stuff. I just can't do it.

But, I didn't get that same feeling this time when I went back on the candida diet, which is one of the reasons I was thinking candida wasn't a huge problem for me. It's slowly but surely sinking in that it IS a problem and that I really need to get serious.

The pasta dish with salmon does sound good, I've been avoiding soy and all grains including rice, the corn tortilla was my "being bad". I lead a very dull life. If you share your salmon pasta tofutti recipe I may make it when I am feeling really reckless or should I say wreckless. :P

I went a whole day without one rinne bar.:o:lol:

Donna, thanks for the update.

I now want furry pink slippers.

Rachel, so many of my symptoms have improved and I am sure some of it is related to detoxing the mercury.

Jin, I know for me that when I am on the sugar loop, as in candida is running the show, then the worst of the withdrawal from the sugar is only about two days and once I am through that then sugar doesn't even taste good to me. I'm working myself up to it again as I really have overindulged lately. On the up side I have gained weight and I am grateful that I can gain weight again.

Andrea, I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your treats. :)

It worked for me! The candida diet ALONE was the only reason I was able to function again and return to a full 40 hour work week after having been on disability for 2 years.

ABSOLUTELY!! Getting rid of the candida and the amalgams gave me over a decade of healthy years. Some symptoms, but not enough to know I was sick.

Then, four years ago when I got sick, I did the candida diet again. NO carbs except for veggies. I even got half-n-half in my lattes because it's lower carb than milk. I avoided corn, carrots, etc.

I got BETTER. Not completely, but much better. That lasted for a while, then I progressively got sicker again ... but I'd be much sicker now if it weren't for that.

And you do feel worse before you feel better because you herx.

I'd like to eat like that now, but anything I eat makes me nauseous. I also am too weak to cook for myself. I would worry about losing weight eating like that, but last time I gained 10 pounds ... probably due to the breve lattes! LOL

You WILL feel much better on a VERY strict anti-candida diet, but you will feel worse first.

I'm thinking I might have to try it myself ... :( Though I don't seem to have much of a candida problem. I think it's just more along the lines of how we're meant to eat.

Your new furniture sounds nice! It is wonderful you guys got to move in so quickly! That house sounds wonderful!

You know that we've lived her since Jan. 2006, right? I think you do, but I don't want you to think we just moved. Actually, Morgan and I stayed back in Indiana until she graduated in May 2006, then we joined the rest of the family.

It's funny because we built our old house, and it was absolutely designed for us and perfect ... but I LOVE this crazy, old house so much ... and it's far from perfect!

Hmm, I must be a dork, too. I don't eat much spinach right now though because it's hard to get out of my braces.

I had trouble playing my flute at Mass today ... I didn't have enough breath support to get the notes out. :( I just realized today that it was the lack of breath support causing the problems ... that's why I play so much better when I feel better.

It's one of the kid's birthdays today, so we're going to see Pirates of the Caribbean.

OMG- I leave for a day and have to read 7 pages!!!!!!!!!!! Must never leave again :P

Interesting about the shellfish- I'm thinking maybe it is a problem as the sickest I have ever gotten were the two times I ate at one particular Legal seafoods location (they have a gluten-free menu) and I ALWAYS attributed it to them doing a poor job with gluten cc. Hmm...I know shrimp was involved once. But i ate lobster at another of their locations and didn't have a problem. I was at a BBQ yesterday and a lot of people said that it sounded like an allergic reaction. May have to wait a bit and try shrimp again and see if it happens. If I have to give up shellfish I will be mad  Actually- my favorite is crab. dagnabit!

Carla- You eat like my husband. He just likes to "taste" a bit of brownie and ice cream. I think he's nuts. He carlas his gluten-free brownies and ice cream. I rachel them, but most show restraint in the future. tried to carla some sunflower butter last night. But could I? OH NO......totaly rachel-out! I used to carla pizza- I always only wanted a half slice for some reason.

so- morning. Morning people are: Mia, patti (and her crap-shoot) :P

Morning yuckys are: Bev, Rachel, carla,

Donna, Charlie middle

OMG- someone else who hallucinates smells! Thank God I'm not alone...I hallucinated skunk last night. Hubby thought I was crazy.

Oh- interesting news I found out yesterday from a friend who lives in a nearby town that has ENTIRE families with neuro-Lyme

SusieQ (aka squats with wolves) TOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a trip that must have been. Hope you enjoyed your chocolate yesterday.

Omgosh! Someone give me some PB and chocolate chips...I could just sit with a jar of PB and sprinkle chocolate chips in it.

Oh please oh please oh please. Donna- you and I could sit in fluffy robes on down-filled couches or chaises doing this together.

andrea- Glad you got your treats!!!!!!!!!!! I missed what happened to your brother? But glad he is OK. Can i have a quick synopsis?

I have to tell you that talitha sounds so much like my 3 1/2 year old niece and my sister when she was young. It's strange watching my niece because it's like watching my sister grow up all over again- same temper tantrums.

Yes, you can never leave. You aren't allowed to have too much of a life if you want to keep up here. :P

I'm beginning to think the estimate of 70% east coast and 40% west coast exposure to lyme may be on the conservative side.

andrea- Glad you got your treats!!!!!!!!!!! I missed what happened to your brother? But glad he is OK. Can i have a quick synopsis?

My brother was having digestive issues with bread (but not pasta) and he also had what looked like DH on his arms. I told him to go gluten free and that there was no turning back since he had DH.

In talking to him yesterday he reported having more energy, being able to climb stairs a little easier and I had forgot to mention that some of his spots are fading. He can't believe that gluten can make so much of a difference.

He's obese and is hoping to be able to lose some weight now. He's never been successful. I told him gluten could be affecting that. I also told him he doesn't want to starve himself or his body is going to hold on to every calorie he eats. The definate plus side is that he is eating healthier. :D

I'm beginning to think the estimate of 70% east coast and 40% west coast exposure to lyme may be on the conservative side.

Andrea...it is a bit on the conservative side cuz the Dr. actually stated 90% on the east coast and 40% here in Nor. Cal. I dont know if she was referring to the whole west coast with 40%...I just heard "here in our area they estimate that 40% have been exposed".

In talking to him yesterday he reported having more energy, being able to climb stairs a little easier and I had forgot to mention that some of his spots are fading. He can't believe that gluten can make so much of a difference.

Yay...I hope your brother does well with this and also loses weight as a result. :D

Patti....enjoy your Starbucks! I'm so jealous when I see everyone at work with their Starbucks in hand.

Thank God my store doesnt have a Starbucks inside....most Safeways do now.

One of the first things I want when I get better is a caramel frappacinno. I dont think I ever drank Starbucks when I was healthy....I started drinking them the first couple years I was sick. I totally missed out on alot of years of yummy caramel frappacinnos. :(

Bev....I've heard of towns where whole families are infected with Lyme. I'm pretty sure in those areas there must be other things contributing...possibly a moldy environment?? I've read on LymeNet of entire families getting sick after moving into a house with mold problems...then all the family testing positive for Lyme. They were not sick until hit with the mold exposure.

I really think that most of the population has been exposed to Lyme but it really takes more assaults on the body from other sources to really weaken the immune system allowing the lyme to become a problem. Thats the way it seems to work...lots of people can have the exposure but not get chronically ill.

I posted this a long time ago...you may have been gone during that time but this is a documentary about Lyme that is being made. "Under Our Skin" The Untold Story Of Lyme Disease.

Open Original Shared Link

In the "sample characters" section I read this...

Elise, an expectant mother

"When we moved to this town, the people we bought the house from said, 'Be careful of Lyme disease.' Then we met all of the neighbors and we found out that every house had at least one case, and in many houses all of them had been infected

I never made it to Starbucks--or the grocery store :(

About 2 miles from the house, my stomach started cramping up and I felt nauseous. I always panic in those situations, so Mark turned the car around and brought me home.

It will be great for awareness if it ever gets out there.

Oh, duh, lol. I never realized that site had a site. :P I saw the movie, but never noticed the website part. Yep, there he is...some of the other people look familiar too but probably can't be. I'd like to say I'm just short of 'obsessed w/ words', but I might be unequivocally obsessed. Unfortunately it leads to a lot of pet peeves about language - lately it's newspeople on tv saying "an historic". To me it sounds as wrong as saying "an history test", but I swear they say "an" ~5x more than "a".

Stupid to have this nonsense bother me, huh?

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

Navigating medication safety with Celiac disease can be incredibly stressful, especially when dealing with asthma and severe allergies on top of it. While I don't have personal experience with the HealthA2Z brand of cetirizine, your caution is absolutely warranted. The inactive ingredients in pills, known as excipients, are often where gluten can be hidden, and since the FDA does not require gluten-free labeling for prescription or over-the-counter drugs, the manufacturer's word is essential. The fact that you cannot get a clear answer from Allegiant Health is a significant red flag; a company that is confident its product is gluten-free will typically have a customer service protocol to answer that exact question. In situations like this, the safest course of action is to consider this product "guilty until proven innocent" and avoid it. A better alternative would be to ask your pharmacist or doctor to help you identify a major national brand of cetirizine (like Zyrtec) whose manufacturer has a verified, publicly stated gluten-free policy for that specific medication. It's not worth the risk to your health when reliable, verifiable options are almost certainly available to you. You can search this site for USA prescriptions medications, but will need to know the manufacturer/maker if there is more than one, especially if you use a generic version of the medication: To see the ingredients you will need to click on the correct version of the medication and maker in the results, then scroll down to "Ingredients and Appearance" and click it, and then look at "Inactive Ingredients," as any gluten ingredients would likely appear there, rather than in the Active Ingredients area. https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/

What you're describing is indeed familiar to many in the Celiac community, especially in the early stages of healing. When the intestinal villi are damaged from Celiac disease, they struggle to properly digest and absorb fats, a condition known as bile acid malabsorption. This can cause exactly the kind of cramping and spasms you're seeing, as undigested fats can irritate the sensitive gut lining. It is highly plausible that her reactions to dairy and eggs are linked to their higher fat content rather than the proteins, especially since she tolerates lean chicken breast. The great news is that for many, this does improve with time. As her gut continues to heal on a strict gluten-free diet, her ability to produce the necessary enzymes and bile to break down fats should gradually return, allowing her to slowly tolerate a wider variety of foods. It's a slow process of healing, but your careful approach of focusing on low-fat, nutrient-dense foods like seeds and avocado is providing her system the best possible environment to recover. Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.
