Rachel-

thanks so much for the LED update. It sounds like you handled it all pretty well.

Donna-

so how do you feel now that the solo is over - i was right wasen't i it was no big deal in comparison to the nut butters?

oh ok i have health news but some non health news is i am moving not far but out of my apartment it is mainly for health reasons and i am very happy about it. It is very soon though and i am alittle overwhelmed . Moving is never easy but considering how poorly i have been feeling it seems that much more daunting.

just a quick news tidbit that is irony at its finest... funny stuff if you know anything about Monsanto (for those who don't, Monsanto is a massive, powerful company responsible for things like aspartame and agent orange and now owns the patent to nearly every GMO seed for foods like corn, soy, etc.)

from Open Original Shared Link

"From now on, staff at the British headquarters of biotech giant Monsanto will be eating only non-genetically modified products on their lunch breaks. Foods containing genetically modified soy and corn are no longer available in the company cafeteria. Granada Food Services, which manages the canteen, is said to be concerned about health risks. Monsanto's press department contends the action was not the result of a boycott initiated by worried employees of the U.S. multinational."

and from Open Original Shared Link

"The Independent newspaper reports that there is a notice in the cafeteria of the Monsanto pharmaceutical factory is High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, advising customers 'as far as practicable, GM soya and maize (has been removed) from all food products served in our restaurant. We have taken the steps to ensure that you, the customer, can feel confident in the food we serve.'

The notice was posted by the Sutcliffe Catering Group.

Monsanto confirms the authenticity of the notice, but company spokesman Tony Coombes says the only reason for the GM-free foods is because the company 'believes in choice.'"

- you know that same choice for consumers that Monsanto lobbies against every chance they get to prevent GMO foods from being labeled as such... hard to top the irony of this situation though...

I'm sorry you've had a rough time. Hope the week continues to improve for you.

Moving is daunting, even when you feel well. Try to keep your stress level down as well as not overdoing it.

We had another LED treatment today. Talitha had her HepB, Micah had Mercury and Seth had a redo of Sulpha as well as Recreational Drugs (wheat/cleaners) and Pertussis. Dr. E said Seth was her best patient that day......he was also the last. :) He did really good.

Looking forward to hitting the food sensitivities at the end of the month.

Sure has been quiet here today.........

just a quick news tidbit that is irony at its finest...

The freaky thing about this is that it doesn't even freak me out anymore. I'm laughing out loud. The scary part is that it's kind of par for the course.

Dear Donna,

Bacterial dysbiosis is very likely considering you have had H. Pylori once already. Plus, you have yeast. That sets up a favorable environment for evil buggers! :( The supplements might be adding to it, though. Sometimes even things that are supposed to be good for us can bother sensitive individuals. We all have messed up systems, and that tends to complicated even simple things for us.

Dear Andrea,

I am so glad the children are handling the treatments pretty well. It seems they are doing a good job of keeping up with the toxins and eliminating them. Seth sure has had a rough time of it. I hope repeating the treatment knocked those things out this time! Maybe you will get some good news in the coming weeks about that. :)

Dear tom,

That little house looks nice! I think you would enjoy it. Of course, avoiding the heat from Phoenix is worth moving into an apartment if need be. It is going to hit 102 on Wednesday here. The house even gets hot during the day with the air going full-blast due to it. Some of it Dad discovered was that the filter needed changed.

A lot of people cannot believe how much older I act than my actual age. I always got along even better with my friends' parents than my friends! Maybe it is all those past lives? You never know! Most people are surprised I am not like the others my age.

Believe it or not, I do know a bit about basketball! I used to be a huge Chicago Bulls fan. Michael Jordan was always my favorite, and still is! I know now that he has retired, there will never be another Jordan. Rebounding definitely means basketball to most people. Still, the Urban Rebounding is actually what the trampoline fitness program is called.

Those beaches sound great! I would love to take a stroll barefoot on one! As long as there are not crabs running around too freely. You do not want to step on one of those things! They are just slightly grumpy creatures, you know.

You should check out the LED info. It is so fascinating! Rachel really typed up a lot of fascinating stuff! LED is worth looking at for anyone needing to detox. There are so many things it can help with!

I never risk getting even coffee out. You would be surprised that even some plain coffees do contain gluten, not just flavored ones. There are not near as many as there used to be, though. I will get a Coke and a candy bar I know is safe when need be. Usually, I carry some maple syrup in a small bottle so I have something in case my blood sugar begins to drop.

"Blow me" is said in Britain. Despite what we Americans believe it is referring to, that is not what it means. It is like saying "Blow me away!" They use a lot of different sayings. It is amazing how despite the fact we all speak English, some of our terminology is so different! I knew I was setting myself up with this one!

Dear Susie from the UK,

It is wonderful that Dad's new job came along so quickly. The money should come in every week. They do this to compensate for commissions taking so long to come in. When you are in sales, that is how it goes. There were times we had to wait three weeks for the next paycheck. That was difficult, because you need food and to be able to pay utilities, on top buying medications and other necessities.

The vitamins can come out pretty quickly. B Vitamins are water soluble. So, that is how they come out. If you consume an excess amount, it come out through your kidneys. However, if you are still dealing with malabsorption, I think it probably would have come out your bowels. I know some people's bodies cannot use them, and my doctor mentioned that she thinks that may be some of my trouble as to why I feel bad.

Dear Nikki,

I just love that expression! A lot of British shows use phrases Americans do not have a clue what they mean. It is so funny! Certain movies do as well. I always enjoyed a lot of British shows, like the "Sherlock Holmes Mysteries" starring Jeremy Brett, and "Absolutely Fabulous", "Keeping Up Appearances", and so many more! I really love it when they say stuff like "She lost her husband, the poor old cow!"

Most Americans would be insulted if they were called a cow. They do not realize that the British use this term quite often. It is not meant to offend most of the time, but people here think it means something totally different. Spelling is different as well over there. I still get thrown off wanting to correct spelling when I read British words, because they spell color differently (colour). That is one way I can always tell something was written by someone in England, because the words often are more formal.

Dear Charlie,

Thank you for the articles! That was supreme irony if I ever saw it! It blows your mind!

When a company does not even eat their own products, that should tell you something. Natural food is safe food. GMOs are dangerous.

Dear Rachel,

Are you getting B-12 shots? I was wondering if you ever began taking them. I know there was a complication with the pharmacy. They probably would help a lot with your detox. You need all the help you can get with that mercury. It sure is stubborn!

Dear Mia,

I am glad to hear you are doing a bit better. :) You had a rough time. Did the IVs help any? The chelation probably was too much for your body. Maybe you will tolerate it better now.

Where are you moving to? Are you staying near where you are now? Or is it somewhere completely different in the city? Being closer to your doctor would be good. Then you would not have to go so far to get treatment. Sometimes, a drive across town is difficult to manage when you are so tired and sick.

Dear JulieM,

I am sorry your health has taken a downturn. Any idea as to why? Was there anything specific you changed? There are many possibilities. I have a long list of what could be the rest of the trouble. I have a feeling mine is a bunch of things.

Dear Mango,

It is nice to see you! How have you been? We miss you! Pop in more if you can! Everyone seems to be disappearing lately.

Dear Patti,

You know how we were talking about some great oldies before? Well, last night, my mother and I were up late. We saw an ad for the Midnight Special. The infomercial had all kinds of great music from the 70s on. There was Three Dog Night, Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, and all kinds of others!

Dear Kat,

It is unbelievable about that company having to serve non-GMO food in their cafeteria. Who would have expected that? I think all of the GMO stuff is what causes a lot of trouble. Food was fine the way God made it. Genetically modifying it is like ruining a piece of art.

How are you doing on your Nicorette? It seems to help a lot of people. I know when I was in high school, there were already people trying to quit. We were only in our second year of high school, and people were trying to stop smoking! Some of them started at like 12! I never had the desire, because of the asthma and my father smoking.

Sincerely,

Jin

Me and my father either watch together or talk on the phone multiple times during a game we are both a little obsessive. I used to be on the basketball team in high school. I have always been a huge sports fan. Loved watching loved playing. Most men are suprised about how much i know about it I don't think its sexist though becasue honestly I don't like alot of women sports fans ( sorry if i offended anyone here)

I so want you to feel better! I'm glad you are moving...it sounds like it will put you in a more favorable health situation. Moving is always overwhelming...I'm just trying to dejunk a bit and I'm overwhelmed. I don't even know where to start actually. :P Anyway, just do a little bit every day...rest in between...don't try to do it all at one time if you can help it.

Yeah, and continuing to eat sugar (even in a good form) isn't helping either. I think the massive overload of sugar from cookies/chocolate chips pushed me over the edge...I think it stirred up the lyme a bit. :( My burning skin came back yesterday and I haven't had that in quite a few weeks, maybe even a couple of months. Feels just like a bad sunburn on my skin...all over my skin, but there is no redness or marks of any kind...hurts when my clothing touches my skin.

i used to be a huge basketball fan but i don't like where the sport has gone right now I am a massive baseball fan . I don't really watch tv but i watch the baseball game everynight!!! Mia, I don't think you could offend anyone if you tried, lol. I love sports too...used to watch with my dad all the time too...he'd call once in a while in the middle of a game to see if I was watching, but usually we'd just talk afterwards. When I lived at home, we'd watch together all the time. My brother absolutely HATED sports, so did my sister, so I was it, lol. I kind of miss that. :( Anyway, this woman sports fan isn't offended.

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear Mia,

I like sports as well! You are not alone! I used to collect baseball cards as a kid! My favorite team will always be the Yankees, because Donnie Baseball is from my home town! :) He used to have a restaurant here called Mattingly's, but it closed due to financial difficulties.

Dear Donna,

I am sorry to hear you are sweaty and queasy. :( I know queasy especially well. Maybe one day I will feel better again. The first two months gluten-free were amazing, but then the stupid Flagyl ruined it for me! I bet it activated Lyme!

Those feelings of burning on the skin sound annoying. I often feel like I am being pinched, like when an ant bites you. Do you ever get that? You are right about the sugar. Even the natural kind feeds the yeast. I am addicted to it, too. It is so hard to stop eating it! My blood sugar gets low, which really makes it difficult.

Your Dad was not like mine. My father is not big on sports for the most part. He used to play tennis in college, but has not done anything since! You are talking about a man who drove down the street to get me and my brother's basketball when we were younger! Now that is lazy!

I miss my peanutbutter! :( I would like to get some cashew butter or almond butter. They are so expensive. The one is nearly $10 a jar, and the other is $13 a jar! Making it myself would actually cost more. If I can, buying it would be more economical, and less effort.

Me, I'm too lazy to even paint my nails. More power to ya Donna. So my house looks dusty and my nails are bare.

Okay, this is funny because it was televised for the wedding (55 couples) and the 45 minute "Skyshow", in addition to the Padre's game (which went into 4 extra innings, by the way). We just set our VCR to record, and there ya go - Lazy gal's wedding video. Oh, and it was more about the fireworks show than the baseball game - we could care less about baseball.

Now Football - That gets me fired up ! Go Little LT ! Go Chargers ! Pre-season starts now !

In an effort to be "correct" though, 3 months later, we had a beautiful reception for everyone.

How are you doing on your Nicorette? It seems to help a lot of people.

I haven't smoked. I'm using the Nicorette only 3 or 4 times a day. I'd like to not be using that at all too, but yesterday, I almost lost it. I'm trying though. This is my best effort ever. I think this is it !

Rachel, I was wondering about the Methyl B-12 injections too. I thought maybe I just missed something. I was curious if you were still doing that.

Have great days !

Yep, I get the pinching too...feels like I'm being bitten by bugs. Sometimes they are especially painful, and I can swear I'm being bitten by a humungus spider or something, but no, there's nothing there. :(

I have told my husband time & time again that we need to get a dog. Maybe this will convince him !:lol:

Dear Kat,

OMG! That is so hilarious that you just taped your wedding on the VCR! Even better is, no shaky video! There is something else you will not have to pay for! I say why not? A lot of people are having the reception after the honeymoon now. I think that may be what I might do whenever I get married.

I am glad you are doing well on your no smoking crusade! :) I know if my father were using Nicorette, he would need it way more than four times a day! He smokes so much! You can do it! I think the chlorella probably helped some.

Maybe you can finally get a dog! Your logic is justified! However, they do require some care. They need walked, fed, bathed, and all kinds of other things. Dogs can be a lot of work. Yorkies raise their leg up on everything.

Let's just say I have had many a shoe fall victim to Dart. :( I know a trick to fix that, though. :) I would recommend a Schnauzer any day, though. They are busy, but smart and playful. Jasmine was great in the sense I practically never had to sweep the kitchen!

Dear Donna,

Those sensations do feel like bug bites. I always think I got bit by a spider or something, like you described. It is so weird. Is Lyme responsible for that? Sometimes I feel like something is crawling on me, too.

I would know! We are the Queens of Lazy. I think we are sisters. There are times I am just like "Who freakin' cares? The Sopranos is on!" Most of the time, I am just to tired to give a crap.

I figure, the dog might as well earn his keep.

I do dishes, laundry, clean out the fridge, and all kinds of other things. He just lays around mostly. He is even afraid of mice! Yorkies originally chased mice out of homes. Ours hears them, and runs! The other day, a fly was in, and he ran and tried to hide from it under my legs!

Sincerely,

Jin

I think you should. We opted to have our honeymoon 4 months after the reception. How lazy are we?? Get this: we WON a week-long trip to Aspen, Colorado. We didn't have to plan that either !!! I highly recommend this too.

EDIT: Actually, in the interest of accuracy, we had 2 honeymoons. Waikiki & Aspen - not that that matters, but I have this compulsion to correct myself when I realize that I've said something inaccurate.

Although, I really couldn't see myself mopping the floor with a Saint Bernard. Oh, and raising the leg ! :o NO ! That's a frightening thought. We'd really have to mop the floor with him after that !

Well, I see a lot of people on LN talking about feeling like they're being stuck with needles, so it might be associated with lyme. I also get the feeling like things are crawling on me. I'm also looking through spirochette eyeballs. :(

The animals we had when I was a child were all fraidy-cats, but the two dogs I've had as an adult were fearless, lol. They were both Westies and man they thought they were big dogs...both of them, lol. Mostly they weren't afraid of anything, but had each one of them take me across the street a couple of times when someone was approaching they didn't feel comfortable with. She's fine. She's been a good girl and getting to bed earlier because of her need for more sleep......one less stressor on her body if she gets her rest.

So, essentially all of the nutrition in the food we eat is absorbed through the villous lining of the small bowel. This is the section of the intestinal track that is damaged by celiac disease. This villous lining is composed of billions of finger-like projections that create a huge amount of surface area for absorbing nutrients. For the celiac person, when gluten is consumed, it triggers an autoimmune reaction in this area which, of course, generates inflammation. The antibodies connected with this inflammation is what the celiac blood tests are designed to detect but this inflammation, over time, wears down the finger-like projections of the villous lining. Of course, when this proceeds for an extended period of time, greatly reduces the absorption efficiency of the villous lining and often results in many and various nutrient deficiency-related health issues. Classic examples would be osteoporosis and iron deficiency. But there are many more. Low D3 levels is a well-known celiac-caused nutritional deficiency. So is low B12. All the B vitamins in fact. Magnesium, zinc, etc.  Celiac disease can also cause liver inflammation. You mention elevated ALP levels. Elevated liver enzymes over a period of 13 years was what led to my celiac diagnosis. Within three months of going gluten free my liver enzymes normalized. I had elevated AST and ALT. The development of sensitivities to other food proteins is very common in the celiac population. Most common cross reactive foods are dairy and oats but eggs, soy and corn are also relatively common offenders. Lactose intolerance is also common in the celiac population because of damage to the SB lining.  Eggs when they are scrambled or fried give me a gut ache. But when I poach them, they do not. The steam and heat of poaching causes a hydrolysis process that alters the protein in the egg. They don't bother me in baked goods either so I assume the same process is at work. I bought a plastic poacher on Amazon to make poaching very easy. All this to say that many of the issues you describe could be caused by celiac disease.

thank you so much for your detailed and extremely helpful reply!! I can say with absolute certainty that the less gluten containing products I've eaten over the past several years, the better I've felt.   I wasn't avoiding gluten, I was avoiding refined grains (and most processed foods) as well as anything that made me feel bad when I ate it. It's the same reason I gave up dairy and eggs- they make me feel ill.  I do have a bit of a sugar addiction lol so a lot of times I wasn't sure if it was the refined grains that I was eating - or the sugar. So from time to time I might have a cookie or something but I've learned how to make wonderful cookies and golden brownies with BEANS!! and no refined sugar - I use date paste instead. Pizza made me so ill- but I thought it was probably the cheese. I gave up pizza and haven't missed it. the one time I tried a slice I felt so bad I knew I'd never touch it again. I stopped eating wheat pasta at least 3 yrs ago- just didn't feel well after eating it. I tried chick pea pasta and a few others and discovered I like the brown rice pasta. I still don't eat a lot of pasta but it's nice for a change when I want something easy. TBH over the years I've wondered sometimes if I might be gluten intolerant but really believed it was not possible for me to have celiac disease. NOW I need to know for sure- because I'm in the middle of a long process of trying to find out why I have a high parathyroid level (NOT the thyroid- but rather the 4 glands that control the calcium balance in your body) I have had a hard time getting my vit D level up, my serum calcium has run on the low side of normal for many years... and now I am losing calcium from my bones and excreting it in my urine (some sort of renal calcium leak) Also have a high ALP since 2014. And now rapidly worsening bone density.  I still do not have a firm diagnosis. Could be secondary HPT (but secondary to what? we need to know) It could be early primary HPT. I am spilling calcium in my urine but is that caused by the high parathyroid hormone or is it the reason my PTH is high>? there are multiple feedback loops for this condition.    so I will keep eating the bread and some wheat germ that does not seem to bother me too much (it hasn't got enough gluten to use just wheat germ)    but I'm curious- if you don't have a strong reaction to a product- like me and wheat germ- does that mean it's ok to eat or is it still causing harm even if you don't have any obvious symptoms? I guess what you are saying about silent celiac makes it likely that you can have no symptoms and still have the harm... but geez! you'd think they'd come up with a way to test for this that didn't require you to consume something that makes you sick! I worry about the complications I've been reading about- different kinds of cancers etc. also wondering- are there degrees of celiac disease?  is there any correlation between symptoms and the amnt of damage to your intestines? I also need a firm diagnosis because I have an identical twin sister ... so if I have celiac, she has it too- or at least the genetic make up for having it. I did have a VERY major stress to my body in 2014-2016 time frame .. lost 50lbs in a short period of time and had severe symptoms from acute protracted withdrawal off an SSRI drug (that I'd been given an unethically high dose of, by a dr who has since lost his license)  Going off the drug was a good thing and in many ways my health improved dramatically- just losing 50lbs was helpful but I also went  off almost a dozen different medications, totally changed my diet and have been doing pretty well except for the past 3-4 yrs when the symptoms related to the parathyroid issue cropped up. It is likely that I had low vit D for some time and that caused me a lot of symptoms. The endo now tells me that low vit D can be caused by celiac disease so I need to know for sure! thank you for all that great and useful information!!!

Welcome, @catnapt! The most recent guidelines are the daily consumption of a minimum of 10g of gluten (about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread) for a minimum of two weeks. But if possible stretching that out even more would enhance the chances of getting valid test results. These guidelines are for those who have been eating gluten free for a significant amount of time. It's called the "gluten challenge".  Yes, you can develop celiac disease at any stage of life. There is a genetic component but also a stress trigger that is needed to activate the celiac genes. About 30-40% of the general population possesses the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% of the general population actually develop celiac disease. For most with the potential, the triggering stress event doesn't happen. It can be many things but often it is a viral infection. Having said that, it is also the case that many, many people who eventually are diagnosed with celiac disease probably experienced the actual onset years before. Many celiacs are of the "silent" type, meaning that symptoms are largely missing or very minor and get overlooked until damage to the small bowel lining becomes advanced or they develop iron deficiency anemia or some other medical problem associated with celiac disease. Many, many are never diagnosed or are diagnosed later in life because they did not experience classic symptoms. And many physicians are only looking for classic symptoms. We now know that there are over 200 symptoms/medical problems associated with celiac disease but many docs are only looking for things like boating, gas, diarrhea. I certainly understand your concerns about not wanting to damage your body by taking on a gluten challenge. Your other option is to totally commit to gluten free eating and see if your symptoms improve. It can take two years or more for complete healing of the small bowel lining once going gluten free but usually people experience significant improvement well before then. If their is significant improvement in your symptoms when going seriously gluten free, then you likely have your answer. You would either have celiac disease or NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity).

after several years of issues with a para-gland issue, my endo has decided it's a good idea for me to be tested for celiac disease. I am 70 yrs old and stunned to learn that you can get celiac this late in life. I have just gradually stopped eating most foods that contain gluten over the past several years- they just make me feel ill- although I attributed it to other things like bread spiking blood sugar- or to the things I ate *with* the bread or crackers etc   I went to a party in Nov and ate a LOT of a vegan roast made with vital wheat gluten- as well as stuffing, rolls and pie crust... and OMG I was so sick! the pain, the bloating, the gas, the nausea... I didn't think it would ever end (but it did) and I was ready to go the ER but it finally subsided.   I mentioned this to my endo and now she wants me to be tested for celiac after 2 weeks of being on gluten foods. She has kind of flip flopped on how much gluten I should eat, telling me that if the symptoms are severe I can stop. I am eating 2-3 thin slices of bread per day (or english muffins) and wow- it does make me feel awful. But not as bad as when I ate that massive amnt of vital wheat gluten. so I will continue on if I have to... but what bothers me is - if it IS celiac, it seems stupid for lack of a better word, to intentionally cause more damage to my body... but I am also worried, on the other hand, that this is not a long enough challenge to make the blood work results valid.   can you give me any insight into this please?   thank you

The biopsy looks for damage to the mucosal lining of the small bowel from the inflammation caused by celiac disease when gluten is ingested. Once you remove gluten from the diet, inflammation subsides and the mucosal lining begins to heal.
