And, yeah, hands down, we can handle pain better.

Is this still about whether I could block Donna from some cookies?

Or are we now both armed w/ Tasers . . ..

Umm, to prove what, that you can Google better than everyone else????

Oh Carla Carla Carla . . . . . puh-LEEEEEZ! Have u forgotten I would google far slower than anyone who's on an actual pc?

And of course, the parameters of any such face-off remain unset.

I would propose a conference call or Instant Messaging.

For someone who's never owned a racquet, I know a great deal about tennis. I've set alarms for 4am to watch Wimbledon quarters ferpetessake!!

I realize it's trivia, but who else know Rafi Nadal's coach is Uncle Tony & where he grew up? Or at what age Sharapova moved to FL and the most told story of her early yrs in the US? Or what became of the guy who stabbed Monica on-court?

Etc etc etc yada-yada ad infinitum . . . . .

So don't go reducing my challenge to some pedestrian google-thon!!!!! :P :P

Rachel better come back soon...we are SOOOOO off our scientificness.

Yeah, I've even tried to make my own chocolate...THAT didn't turn out well at all.

Ugh - do I *really* want to do that?

Yeah, after the day I've had at work, I wonder if *I* want to do that, lol.

The diet.......not much fun especially with all the driving. One of the things on my list was histamines and the only meat we can eat is turkey. I've discovered that histamine foods make me tired. I've had a hellacious time driving and being tired. Today I will not eat turkey until we get home. I was hoping that would help but I was up till 3 am because T woke up when daddy swung by to pick up some more food at 1:15 am, and I'm already tired.

Sorry T is having such a terrible time. Yeah, the lack of portableness to our diets here is really a bummer. Makes it really hard. I'm hoping I've dodged the jury duty bullet...just need to sweat out two more check-ins...if I get called it's going to be really hard. I'll have to bring a cooler everyday.

We do not care about easy when it comes to chocolate. The issue is getting some chocolate! :P You silly man!

Exactly! What Jin said.

Donna, why not get powdered Nystatin for the carpet ... just use it like those carpet powders! LOL

 I might try it.:lol:

One would regularly have all-natural locally-produced boneless skinless breasts for $1.88/lb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:o Wow, can't remember WHEN I might have seen a price like this!

Now, I have heard, and believe, that in a matter of decades, a woman may run a marathon faster than the top man - but, no offense, it won't be you, Donna.

I hate running, lol...don't run for nothin'.

In pursuit of chocolate, Donna could simply go to the Long's 4 doors over. Or the ^%@#%^#!* starbucks next door! Or the little cafe next to that!

Or to any number of other favorite chocolate stashes.

Donna? what time!!!?

My time.

Donna might just go to Starbucks instead! When chocolate calls, we answer! Chocolate is better than men for so many reasons. You can always depend on chocolate to make you happy. Men on the other hand, typically disappoint.

And, yeah, hands down, we can handle pain better.

Umm, to prove what, that you can Google better than everyone else????

NoGluGirl Contributor

Dear tom,

Now you know we are teasing! :P Well, except for the chocolate being better than men part! I like trivia as well. Still, I cannot believe you do not own a tennis racket! :o What the heck? I have had an Agassi racket for nearly ten years!

Dear Donna,

We are way off base with Rachel gone. Where is she? Have you heard from her? I hope she is alright. Hopefully, she is just busy.

Making chocolate is not easy! Truffles are a real pain to make! I tried those before. It is tough. Now I know what I did wrong. Before I had no idea. Thank goodness for the Food Network! :)

Men are silly! Chocolate is way more important to us than they are! Can they comfort us the way it can? Absolutely not! Can men satisfy us the way it can? Again, the answer is no, not even on their best day. B)

I typically keep a chocolate stash at home. There is a special place for it! It is like jewelry, but edible. My favorite chocolate places are anywhere from the gas station to the grocery store. As long as it is gluten-free, we are good to go!

Sincerely,

Jin

Tom, you totally ignored the comment that women are perfectly capable of making men weak ... therein lies our stregth!

Donna, have you tried my fudge recipe? It's chocolate ... can't remember if you can have almond butter though.

Tom, why weren't you here for the recent tennis match that they have every year? Big, big names come for it. Hmm, where am I?? LOL

tom Contributor
Tom, you totally ignored the comment that women are perfectly capable of making men weak ... therein lies our strength!

Hehe no no not ignored at all! Simply acknowledged and undisputed. :)

If I'm being forced to comment on it, I'd have to say your phrasing is an understatement. Yes, even "perfectly capable". It's more than that. Capable implies having the means, if the will exists. The womanly "making men weak" is inherently unavoidable!! Y'all don't even have to TRY!!!!! :)

Tom, why weren't you here for the recent tennis match that they have every year? Big, big names come for it. Hmm, where am I?? LOL

Well, of course right now they're in Flushing Meadow, and I thought last week was the Rogers Cup - tho that alternates betw Toronto & Montreal and I *know* you're not there. Did the Pilot Pen happen in betw? (I've been a little busy here)

That tournament is in Cincy I believe.

(You'll say I looked it up, but you'd be dubya are oh en gee, bay-beeeeee) :P

I got some pretty good news today, but that's for a later post. ;)

dlp252 Apprentice

Carla, don't have (or haven't written it down yet) recipe. I think I am reacting to the almond butter...it's subtle but I still think I'm reacting. I DO think I can still have cashew butter, so could probably substitute. The only thing I think I might not be able to have yet is agave nectar. Maybe I could put just a touch of that in there and maybe a little stevia (which is what I normally use, but don't love the taste of). Oh, and the chocolate...that tested REALLY bad for me in BioSET, and I think she desensitized me, but every time I each chocolate I seem to react. Doesn't actually stop me I guess, although I really AM trying to avoid it. :P:lol:

CarlaB Enthusiast

Crud, I don't know what key I hit that made me lose the post!

Anyway, Donna, you could probably use stevia ... I can't, it upsets my stomach ... one of the only things left that does ... it and apparently MSG.

Tom, nope, that one's in CT. The one here is the oldest tennis tournament in the US still played in its original city. It started in 1899 ... honestly, this was a small town back then, very small!

The house we just bought was built around that time. I keep meaning to take a picture of the entry hall to use as my avatar so you guys can see it!

Yes avatar!!!

Tennis? Hmmm I'm not looking it up, but I did hit a tennis news site for mobile devices - 2 sec load time - and it confirmed that LAST week was the Pilot Pen.

I think I deserve the pts for the original Q, which was "where did they play last wk?".

I'm sure posting today!! Purposely staying in instead of exhausting myself out there for the 5th straight day. Well, ok I WAS out for 5 or 6 hrs.

Hi Charlie,

I just read your sister's story. I'm just speechless--thinking about all she has gone through. Thank goodness she has such a wonderful, supportive family. Your parents sound amazing. I will pray that this treatment is successful for her.

I plan to send a check to the address in the article--I know that wasn't your intent--but I want to. You guys aren't all that far away from me. Please, keep us posted on her.

Thank you, Patti. As you said, I wasn't trying to get anyone to donate money for her, just sharing this since I've discussed her situation on here previously. Of all the outlets I have to try to raise money, this would probably be the last since I know how much we are all already spending on our own medical bills and associated costs. But it is certainly appreciated, and I know my parents are grateful for any support, prayers and thoughts included.

As for everyone else, thanks for the well wishes. The trip could be at any point as she's now number 1 or maybe number 2 on the list, and will get a phone call at some unknown date with the appt. There's probably a few more points I'd like to add, but I'll try to post this weekend.

Just been catching up on the last few pages having not been here in a few days. Smiling over the chocolate debate  My DH hides choclate bars around the house when he buys them so that i can't eat them all at once  However, I have now bit the bullet and am no longer in denial about being a moldie, so its no more choclate here either...

So, a question for those who are following the anti-candida diet. I've seen different opinions in different places about the things that should be cut out. I've read a lot on Whole Approach's website in the past. Anyone have any recommendations about which version of the diet to follow? Also, is it necessary to take the anti-fungals?

I went to the GP today to get my blood results. Having researched on the internet about vitamin and mineral deficiencies following my last miscarriage, I thought I probably had zinc deficiency, and the bloods confirm I do. My dr said to me he would never have thought of testing for it and that he's never treated anyone for zinc deficiency!! He said I shouldn't take zinc tablets in case I overdose but should eat zinc rich foods. My vitamin book says the best sources are oysters  and wheat germ. So I think I will be taking supplements....I think I need to see an alternative practioner..

Anyone heard from Rachel yet?

Susie x

covsooze Enthusiast

Donna - that's amazing about your flat and the candida :o Would steam cleaning be hot enough to kill it?

Should have added another question to my post above - is being sensitive to mold indicative of candida overgrowth? I ate some nuts a few days ago and one tasted moldy. My stomach griped up almost immediately and is still struggling to feel right. Are nuts with their shells on still likely to be moldy? I think I might have to be nut free for the duration.

Susie x

dlp252 Apprentice

Nope, haven't heard from Rachel...she probably has another treatment this afternoon, so we may not hear from her now until later in the weekend. I hope we haven't heard from her because she's out having a great time somewhere, or at the very worst that the last treatment just wore her out a bit more than it seemed.

no longer in denial about being a moldie

Must recite this to myself, must recite this to myself. Note to self: recite above 50 time

Good that you've discovered the zinc deficiency! Yeah, sometimes the alternative or integrated doctors think of these things long before a "regular" doctor would.

As far as the diet...I followed one that my doctor gave me about 4 or 5 years ago. I looked at the Whole Approach one, and it looks good too, but seemed in my mind a bit complicated. The one my doctor gave me was a bit strict, but there were really no other pieces to the puzzle...except for nystatin. He did prescribe nystatin while I was on the diet, but I have to admit I didn't refill that once it was gone. My insurance wouldn't pay for more than ONE pill of diflucan, so that's all I ever took of it. The nystatin was fine, but I just never could tell if it was helping or not and so decided to not take it.

I'm not currently taking any prescription antifungals. The only thing I'm taking directly for the candida is pau d'arco tea. I drink one cup a day, sometimes two. The other things I'm taking probably help with the candida, but are more for the lyme and mercury and general bacterial stuff. And, of course TRYING to limit sugar in all forms and most fermented or aged stuff. No mushrooms.

I don't know if the steam would get hot enough. The last people that came out to clean it (several years ago) said the carpet was so old they wouldn't even recommend cleaning it, lol.:ph34r: I've done it myself a couple of times since then with a home steam cleaner. I really just need to have it taken out and replaced with hardwood.

And re your second question. My old allergist thought so. That's one reason why he told me not to eat mushrooms, etc. I am actually allergic to mold...came up on every skin scratch testing I've ever had, AND on BioSET, and on blood tests, so yeah, I shouldn't be eating anything associated with mold, including nuts. :(

Nope, not last week. ;)

Well, chocolate cravings indicate a magnesium deficiency and I've supplemented magnesium for a long time, so I can take it or leave it. The man in my life is WAY more important than chocolate!!!

Laura, have a GREAT herx-free weekend!!!

Susie, I take Nystatin to prevent yeast problems. If I had a severe yeast problem, I'd probably ask for it, though I have gotten rid of candida myself by follow a strict diet and taking massive probiotics.

I hope Rachel's busy with that interesting guy and not busy being ill. ;)

Hi, been keeping up reading, just quiet.

Quick update, but its late and gotta go to bed on this side of the "pond."

No, Jin, never found zinc. I'm skipping it for now.

My test last week for milk didn't go really well. Not strong dramatic symptoms, but felt foggy and fatigued enough that I couldn't do much. But the worse thing is that I haven't been well all week ever since that. Prone to abdominal symptoms, tired, have to push through to keep working. Ugh. Don't know if it is all milk related--how do we ever figure all this out, guys??

On Monday I am off on another trip, so may lose track of you all for awhile.

Carla, how did your bad herx go? Hope it is a lot better now. You seem perkier...

Miamia--hope you are doing better too.

CarlaB Enthusiast
Carla, how did your bad herx go? Hope it is a lot better now. You seem perkier...

First, the increase in Amoxy caused its own herx for about a week, and just when I was pulling out of that one, the monthly herx started. <_< It was bad ... had to stay in bed with it. Yesterday was my first day out of bed ... I was even able to go out to lunch with Adam, stop by the grocery, and cook dinner, then I was wiped out. Today, I'm still moving slowly ... I guess it'll take a few days to pull out of it.

I've been wondering, what's your time difference from Eastern time?

Sorry the milk experiment didn't work. My food intolerances are going away as my leaky gut is healing!!!! The oregano oil and plant tannins are working wonders ... plus all kinds of probiotics. BUT, I don't have celiac disease. I think that true celiacs/gluten intolerants seem more prone to food sensitivities.

Have a good trip. :)

It's hard to be sure! The same thing has been happening to me...same symptoms after my goat milk/sheep milk yogurt experiment. I still haven't recovered. Definitely having abdominal symptoms too...and I've been very congested for about a week...haven't had that happen in nearly a year, so it really has to be the sheep/goat yogurts...possibly the overload of sugar from the two cookie binges so close together and so close to the yogurts. I think the best way to figure it out is to try something new when it's the only new thing you're trying if that makes sense. I was able to tell pretty well from January until a couple of months ago what was bothering me as long as I only tried 1 new thing at a time...including supplements, but anytime I tried more than one thing, even if it was a new supplement and a new food, the issue was muddied and harder to figure out.

I think that true celiacs/gluten intolerants seem more prone to food sensitivities.

Unfortunately. :(

covsooze Enthusiast

Thanks for your help Donna (: Your signature mentions all your food intolerances. Have you cut out all the problem foods? My ELISA, test had me intolerant to pretty much everything inies except including all veggies except mushrooms :o Just wondering what you've done to deal with intolerances.

Susie x

dlp252 Apprentice

You're welcome Suzie. Well, I'm sure a lot of the intolerances were due to the Lyme, mercury, mold toxicity, etc. So finding out that those were definitely problems was the first step.

In November of last year, one of my doctors put me on an elimination diet to try to figure out what was bothering me. I never could figure it out because I reacted to just about everything it seems. That was not long after Rachel had started seeing the lady at BioSET for electrodermal testing. I decided to try it to see if she could help with the food and to tell me if I might have lyme. She didn't find the lyme because apparently I wasn't sensitized to it, but she did find a BUNCH of foods that I was reacting to. (I later found the lyme by another "alternative" testing called ART (muscle testing), and then confirmed that with a blood test.)

Oddy, most of the foods on the base elimination diet that were considered "safe" were on the list of foods I reacted to, so that is why I didn't get anywhere with the elimination diet. I cut out all the foods that she told me to and felt better right away. I'm still basically eating that core diet that she said was safe, and have tried to add a few things, some with success but most not, and I'm thinking that's because of the mold/lyme/mercury situation. Until I knock that down a bit my gut probably won't heal much. And if I keep insisting on eating cookies and chocolate will probably actually make things worse.

So, I have resolved to start TOMORROW on a strict candida diet and cut nuts out completely for at least a week, lol.

covsooze Enthusiast

I could do with looking into the alternative therapies but don't have the

Okay, you're on...no nuts! Yeah, I'd like me a potato once in a while, but fortunately haven't eaten those regularly for the last 5 years or so, so almost used to it by now, lol.

It's hard to figure out without testing in my mind. I just had the ASYRA run for my food sensitivities. Now that I have a list it's easier to see what affects me and how. It seems to be mostly sleepy type stuff for me but I'm not eating alot of foods right now so we'll see later.

Raising you vitamin D will increase absorption of calcium automatically without supplementation of calcium.  A high PTH can be caused by low D causing poor calcium absorption; not insuffient calcium intake.  With low D your body is not absorbing calcium from your food so it steals it from your bones.  Heart has priority over bone. I've been taking 10,000 IU D3 a day since 2015.  My doctor says to continue. To fix my lactose intolerance, lots of lactobacillus from yogurts, and brine fermented pickles and saurkraut and olives.  We lose much of our ability to make lactase endogenosly with maturity but a healthy colony of lactobacillus in our gut excretes lactase in exchange for room and board. The milk protein in grass fed milk does not bother me. It tastes like the milk I grew up on.  If I drink commercial milk I get heartburn at night. Some experts estimate that 90% of us do not eat Adequite Intake of choline.  Beef and eggs are the principle source. Iodine deficiency is a growing concern.  I take 600 mcg a day of Liquid Iodine.  It and NAC have accelerated my healing all over.  Virtually blind in my right eye after starting antihypertensive medication and vision is slowly coming back.  I had to cut out starches because they drove my glucose up into the 200+ range.  I replaced them with Red Bull for the glucose intake with the vitamins, minerals and Taurine needed to process through the mitochodria Krebs Cycle to create ATP.  Went from A1c 13 down to 7.9.  Work in progress. Also take B1,B2,B3,B5,B6. @catnapt, Wheat germ has very little gluten in it.  Gluten is  the carbohydrate storage protein, what the flour is made from, the fluffy part.  Just like with beans, there's the baby plant that will germinate  ("germ"-inate) if sprouted, and the bean part is the carbohydrate storage protein.   Wheat germ is the baby plant inside a kernel of wheat, and bran is the protective covering of the kernel.   Little to no gluten there.   Large amounts of lectins are in wheat germ and can cause digestive upsets, but not enough Gluten to provoke antibody production in the small intestines. Luckily you still have time to do a proper gluten challenge (10 grams of gluten per day for a minimum of two weeks) before your next appointment when you can be retested.

Hello, @asaT, I'm curious to know whether you are taking other B vitamins like Thiamine B1 and Niacin B3.  Malabsorption in Celiac disease affects all the water soluble B vitamins and Vitamin C.  Thiamine and Niacin are required to produce energy for all the homocysteine lowering reactions provided by Folate, Cobalamine and Pyridoxine.   Weight gain with a voracious appetite is something I experienced while malnourished.  It's symptomatic of Thiamine B1 deficiency.   Conversely, some people with thiamine deficiency lose their appetite altogether, and suffer from anorexia.  At different periods on my lifelong journey, I suffered this, too.   When the body doesn't have sufficient thiamine to turn food, especially carbohydrates, into energy (for growth and repair), the body rations what little thiamine it has available, and turns the carbs into fat, and stores it mostly in the abdomen.  Consuming a high carbohydrate diet requires additional thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  Simple carbohydrates (sugar, white rice, etc.) don't contain thiamine, so the body easily depletes its stores of Thiamine processing the carbs into fat.  The digestive system communicates with the brain to keep eating in order to consume more thiamine and other nutrients it's not absorbing.   One can have a subclinical thiamine insufficiency for years.  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so the symptoms can wax and wane mysteriously.  Symptoms of Thiamine insufficiency include stunted growth, chronic fatigue, and Gastrointestinal Beriberi (diarrhea, abdominal pain), heart attack, Alzheimer's, stroke, and cancer.   Thiamine improves bone turnover.  Thiamine insufficiency can also affect the thyroid.  The thyroid is important in bone metabolism.  The thyroid also influences hormones, like estrogen and progesterone, and menopause.  Vitamin D, at optimal levels, can act as a hormone and can influence the thyroid, as well as being important to bone health, and regulating the immune system.  Vitamin A is important to bone health, too, and is necessary for intestinal health, as well.   I don't do dairy because I react to Casein, the protein in dairy that resembles gluten and causes a reaction the same as if I'd been exposed to gluten, including high tTg IgA.  I found adding mineral water containing calcium and other minerals helpful in increasing my calcium intake.   Malabsorption of Celiac affects all the vitamins and minerals.  I do hope you'll talk to your doctor and dietician about supplementing all eight B vitamins and the four fat soluble vitamins because they all work together interconnectedly.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind
