What test did you do for disccharides?

I tried SCD a couple years ago and quickly got much worse. I couldnt handle any of the SCD foods.....phenols and all of that. :(

Rachel, that's the Rosmed test. The test results themselves just give a result for sugar level in the stool. My level is 1.62, and the norm is 0.0-0.5. The explanation mentions disaccharides, and my doctor mentioned needing to eliminate disaccharides. The SCD diet talks about disaccharides and polysaccharides because the body needs to break them down first. My LLMD said that the sugar (my level was extremely elevated) is toxic and stimulates bad bacteria, perpetuates inflammatory response.

Here's what the lab explanation is: " Increased "sugar" is stool indicates mainly digestive disorders in small intestine which causes inssufficiences of disaccaridases. We interpret increased sugar as an indicator of small bowel inflammation followed by lack of mucosal disgestive enzymes like lactase, sucrase, amylase. Insufficiency of saccharidases can apply to monosaccharides, disaccarides, and polysaccharides. The acidifying flora utilizes these undigested sugars and form large quantities of lactic, acetic, butyric and propionic acid. Yeasts species also proliferate in a high carbohydrate environment...."

The SCD doesn't eliminate monosaccharides, so I guess until I am on it for awhile we won't know if it is enough to just eliminate the more complex sugars that have to be broken down to be absorbed.

Of course I hope this is temporary and not permanent!

Sherry

Took my first glutathione IM shot last night at bed time and after not sleeping well for 1-2 weeks, I slept like a rock for 10+ hours! Feel much better today! I must have really needed that!

Lisa, I can't really say how much zeolite is helping because I havent had much of a toxicity problem. A little of course but not enough that a binder would make me feel much different. I am taking it for the low levels of remaining metals.

I need to write an update but its too hard on my phone.

Ha, I ate enough for BOTH of us and most of this thread too yesterday. Made myself SICK as a dog, which didn't help me get any sleep last night!

You mean you ate more than 2 king size milky ways and a half a can of whip cream that was sprayed directly into my mouth? And I got high from the nitrous oxide? :D

Looking forward to that!

Donna, sorry you are having to wait for your results, it must be very hard to have this all hanging.

Lisa glad you have much such progress, and hope it will work for Rachel and April. I'm going to ask Dr. E to test it too. My allergist once told me, if it helps one person it is worth looking at. LOL about getting caught.

OMG--the town lists! They just got longer and longer....Andrea kept them all up to date :D

Yep--good times!

I think I still have them......Paula, if you want a copy and can't find one (there are still lots cuz Susan loved the lists, ) then pm me.

YAY!!! Great news!

Lisa,

Sorry......between you and Rachel I'll probably be thinking of that song now. Haven't watched tv in years but used to watch that. Now we just watch DVD's.

For you old timers that were on the thread last year when my dad died.....they are finally going to bring his ashes to the Oregon coast. South of Newport (that's where Keiko was before being transferred to Greendland area...or somewhere around there.....Keiko is the one in Free Willy) in Yachats for those of you who know the area at all.

So I'll be gone the weekend of Aug 9/10. We'll be staying at the beach so I'll be in heaven for the night we are there. I love the ocean and find the waves soothing......I just like listening to the water, even streams or rivers. About 10-12 years ago I used to get off work, round up the boys (stepsons) and Mitch and make a mad dash to the coast to watch the sunset......1 1/2 hour drive one way. We'd stay for the sunset....bout 1/2 hour and head back home. :P:lol:

Would never dream of that with gas prices these days though.

Hey, if you gotta go, might as well go with chocolate cake...I can't think of a better way to go!

Well...."technically" it was brownies....I guess I thought it was cake for some reason.

Anyways, yeah....totally yummy with caramel spread on top. I'm telling you.....the yeast just LOVE me right now.

Yikes about peeking over the fence to see that though. Glad no shots were fired......you didn't say any were anyway. Were you able to eat your meat? Chocolate cake.....sounds nummy!

Nope...no shots fired. Good thing because me and my "cake" were really close to the action. :o

I did save my beef just in time. :D

I cant eat any pieces that get overcooked because I react to them...so I just picked those burnt pieces out. ;)

Don't get me started! I haven't had chocolate in like 60 days, OMG talk about torture!!!!!

:o:o HEINOUS!!

Funny how *essential* chocloate is now that I have problems with it. Its totally irresistable...yet when I COULD have it....I never really wanted it.

Rachel, you have to eat extra for me :D:D

Done!!

I'm exhausted. There isn't anything new and exciting to tell. I'm kinda worried that if I do truly react to the Iron IV, what are they going to do?

Kassandra....something has to be causing the anemia. So maybe if that underlying problem were addressed the situation would improve?? Just a thought.

Rachel--24 Collaborator
Rachel how much does just the basic OAT test cost? I tried signing up and seeing but their site is confusing...

Katy,

You dont have to sign up to view the tests or the prices. I'm not sure where you were looking??

Anyways....here's the link to the pricing page.

Well I hope you at least enjoyed every bite before you got to the point of feeling sick!

I rode and rode my new bike today with the kids. My legs are cramping now lol. Im debating on that ice cream and cake tonight for the kids birthday lol.

Is it one of your kid's birthday today Paula?

I'm exhausted. There isn't anything new and exciting to tell. I'm kinda worried that if I do truly react to the Iron IV, what are they going to do? I'm so miserably anemic I can't stand it. But, my hemoglobin is fine. So I can't really get a blood transfusion.

I am supposed to go shopping today with my mom for a dress for a wedding I'm going to on Saturday. My mom had to drag me this afternoon to go. I used to LOVE shopping! Now, I could totally care less. <_<

I'm sorry you are so tired Kassandra, you've been through so much on top of everything. I hope they will figure something else out for you if it turns out you are reacting to the iron. We've got to get some energy in you!

Yeah Paula....you'll eventually get to read about Julie and her cop. Right now she's saying that the cop pulled HER over.....but I actually think it was the other way around!

I think you are right Rachel.......it's all starting to come back to me now!:lol:

Paula, if you come across the post about me and my cop let me know how it went

Isn't that the way it always is..........chocolate is definately irresistable though. :P Course I really like the carob chips but they are not a gluten free food. I did fine off chocolate if I had my carob. I used to consider myself a chocoholic.

Thanks for the info. on the Rosmed Sherry.

No doubt I'd benefit from the SCD if it werent for these issues with phenols and probably oxalates. So I cant do the diet AT ALL...almonds, carrots, etc...are NOT a good thing for me! :(

Anyways there's a ton of info. available as far as following the diet. I read "Breaking The Vicious Cycle" which was pretty informative.

Its a strict diet but definately serves its purpose.....you have to watch for starches and other things that might be in any of the supplements you take.

I only made it as far as the beginning stage...the cleanse with chicken soup and carrots.

I'm actually doing better now....even with the chocolate brownies! Go figure...I've always said that my body hates veggies and anything even remotely healthy.

I don't know what a warning is but I'm sure they don't have a 3 strikes your out. I probably wouldn't be able to post anything. I would have a new screen name and be incognito.

Julie.....it means dont do it again!!

A warning is issued when you violate one of the board rules. When your warning bar is maxed out....well, I guess I dont have to tell you what that means.

So yeah........be good. :)

Awww Andrea.....that sounds so perfect. The children are so gonna love this.

I love the beach! I love everything about it. :)

I just wanna have my toes in the sand and I can sit there forever (as long as its not too cold!) just watching the waves. Its the most perfect place to watch the sunset. :)

the first time i took zeolite (3 drops liquid) i felt strangely high for a few mins.. then i got panic-y and went for a bike ride, which helped.. i will try uping the dosage now that i seem more accustomed to it. it's expensive though! one bottle cost me 50 bucks!!! from the health food store..

~Katy

What zeolite was it? Did you take the drops in water or under your tongue? Don't take any other zeolite that's not pure! Many liquid zeolites are not pure and can be toxic. If it's not Waiora which it can't be because we are not allowed to sell our products in the health food stores it might just be zeolite that's mixed with minerals that was powdered and they also added water to it and said it was liqud zeolite.

Was it from the clinoptilolite family?

Rachel--24 Collaborator

Everyone who's been issued one warning has 33%....you're ok....just dont put up the link to your site again. ;)

My allergist once told me, if it helps one person it is worth looking at.

Yup....and it helped Lisa so now I just GOTTA try it!! :P

Seriously though....zeolite was something that came up quite a bit in the stuff I research having to do with Autism. So there's definately something to it. Now, whether or not its gonna do anything for ME....I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm always very optimistic going into something new.....but even moreso when its something that has peaked alot of interest....like zeolite has as far being helpful in the autistic population.

I'm sure its very obvious fom my posts...but if something is really working for these kids it tends to carry alot of weight with me. I get really excited about those things. :)

So yeah....we'll see what happens. ;)

It generated enough interest that a clinical study is underway.

As the first ever clinical study examining a natural chelator's effect on autism disorders moves into it's second year, it's expanded protocol was approved by its FDA approved Independent Review Board. To date, approximately sixty children have been identified or accepted into the study. Recruiting will continue until the needed eighty children have been accepted and an additional twelve alternatives have been identified.

Oh, @MagsM, Sorry you had that happen with Niacin.  500mg is the maximum amount of Niacin one should take.  Niacin works hand in hand with Thiamine, so a big influx like that can imbalance thiamine if not supplemented at the same time.  All the B vitamins work together in concert.  Niacin in doses at 500 mg or above have been used by doctors to lower triglycerides levels and raise HDL, the good cholesterol.  Pharmaceuticals to do the same thing are more expensive and thus more profitable for physicians. Has your doctor tested you for H. Pylori?  An infection by H. Pylori can be tested for by your doctor.  H. Pylori can cause low tTg IgA results, too.   I would hold off on the microbiome test for now.  Your microbiome is going to change when you go gluten free.  Your microbiome will change when you start taking Thiamine.  Thiamine supplementation influences which microbes grow in the intestines, encouraging beneficial bacteria and getting rid of the bad ones.  Thiamine in the form Benfothiamine promotes intestinal healing, too.  Adopting the Autoimmune Protocol Diet (by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, a Celiac herself) after diagnosis will also change your microbiome.  This is the best diet to heal and recover, IMO.   If you're going to have more testing done for vitamin deficiencies, don't take vitamin supplements beforehand, otherwise the tests will measure the vitamin supplements in your bloodstream and give false results.  Same thing will happen if you take B vitamin shots.  The supplements you mentioned (Arterosil HP and Vascanox HP) are herbal support and do not contain all eight B vitamins.  There's no harm in taking them, but I prefer a B Complex that contains all the B vitamins in activated forms like Life Extension's Bioactive Complete B Complex.  All the B vitamins work together in concert.  Magnesium is important to supplement as thiamine and magnesium make life sustaining enzymes together.  Do not buy supplements containing Thiamine Mononitrate because it is not biologically active.  It is very hard for the body to utilize.  Most of it (70%) passes out unused.    Yes, my Meniere's disease has not returned.  I was deficient in Vitamin D.  I took high doses of Vitamin D 3 to correct the deficiency quickly.  I also took TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) which is a form of thiamine different from Benfotiamine.  TTFD can cross the blood brain barrier without a carrier, so it can get into the brain very easily.  TTFD helps the Vagus nerve function.  The Vagus nerve regulates the ears and balance, and also the digestive system.  I like Allithiamine by Ecological Formulas.  I also like Thiamax by Objective Nutrients.  You should have improvements within a hour with TTFD.  TTFD is much stronger, so lower doses will give amazing benefits (50-200 mg).   I hope this helps give you some direction to take on your journey!

Thank you so much for this in depth analysis. I am currently taking Vit D3/K2 5000IU daily.i started taking a flushing Niacin but foolishly took a 500mg tab and nearly passed out! I have just ordered a gut microbiome genome test and it will be interesting to see what my current balance of microbes are. After I finish diagnosis I will definitely go gluten free. Diagnosis will inform exactly how strict I’ll need to be regarding cross contamination etc. my focus will be on healing the gut. I have also been focusing on the oral microbiome - cutting out FL and using more natural products as well as daily oil pulling. I read from some of your other forum entries about Benfothiamine and I’ll definitely order that. I’ll make sure my doc orders more detailed vitamin and mineral panel plus total IGA as well as the DGP-IGA and DGP-IGG tests. We will see if I can get the endoscopic biopsy done. Do you think I should request Vitamin B shots to get me started?  My daily vitamin protocol will likely be VitD/K2 5000IU, Benfothiamin 300x2, Niacin (flushing) 50mg working up to 300mg. I also take a EPA/DHA as well as some vascular support (Arterosil HP and Vascanox HP) as well as Magnesium at night. Which B complex brand do you like? I will see what the gut microbiome test comes back with. I’m sure they will try to sell me pre/probiotics and maybe some digestive enzymes. What are you thought on those? I’m curious if you managed to go into full remission from your Ménière’s disease? Thank you so much for your thoughtful insight. I know that building back up my gut health and immune health will help in so many ways as well as protecting me from many other major diseases as I go into my 60s and beyond.

You are right! The logo the have on their packages got me confused--it looks like they are less than 20ppm, not certified GF. Thanks for catching that! My brain also zeroed in on this "less than 10ppm" but I should have seen the rest...

Zinc glyconate lozenges (Cold Eeze) helps fight off viral respiratory infections by coating the mucous membrane cells to protect them from virus.  Zinc is an antiviral essential mineral. Choline deficieicy can be the cause of Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease.  It is estimated by some experts that less than 10% eat the minimum RDA of around 450 mg.  It has also been connected to gallbladder disease.  Brain fog and high homosystein blood level is an independant indicator of cardiovascular disease. Eggs and red meat are the primary sources.  Three eggs or 10 cups of cooked brocolli a day.  Low vitamin D is a common denominator of autoimmune disease.  Is it a contributing factor or a result? I think that low vitamin D is maybe the main contributing factor.  Low vitamin D allows the immune system to run amuck. I would like to point out the many diagnosed with Celiac Disease went through several misdiagnoses, like gall bladder disease, and were repeatedly tested negative and then one day tested positive. Regardless of your diagnosis, you should avoid gluten, you mention it in your first post : "When I eat gluten I get a lot of mucus with my stool and most of the times it’s quite thin. As soon as I take gluten away from my diet my stool becomes normal". It can take six months to several years to heal completely.  How long I believe is directly related to how quickly you identify deficiencies and correct. Essential to my recovery:  Thiamine, 10,000 IU vitamin D3 a day, maintaining 25(OH)D at 80 ng/dl (200 nmole/L), 600 mcg Liquid Iodine, Phosphatidyl Choline.  And of course: Gluten Free.
