By the way, what is Vance's? I know that it's a powder and that it's something like milk, but is it for really lactose intolerant or what?

Premature posting - thanks for teaching us that Susan!!!

edit - hey you guys - did you see that thread entitled "I found spinach" or something like that? thought we might have gotten busted or something  about too much spinaching of our pants, but it was a serious question about....spinach!:lol:

OMG, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought that when I saw that thread, lol!

Hi Rachelville friends! I just had to stop by an internet cafe and visit Rachelville, because I'm hungry and I miss the place where all the food is safe and happy and gluten and auxigro and everything else free! Grow me some food and have the geese fly it over! LOL haha...but it's okay...I'll figure out how to eat here! I even found a place today that sells Bumble Bars!

I don't really know what's going on in Rachelville, but I saw a box of altoids showed up :o and the population grew! My internet time's up.. gotta go!

:):D:)

Woo hoo Bumble Bars in Australia!!! Hi Mango!!!

Donna-once again, thank you so much for the great info. Spinach has always bothered me-now I know why.

You're welcome. When I did the SCD diet I waited a couple of weeks to try spinach...something that I had eaten fairly regularly before then and it literally made me feel nauseated. I think I'm a little more sensitive than I thought to stuff, lol. Eggs have become the same way. I can still tolerate them hard boiled or as egg salad, but every other method of cooking makes me feel nauseated when I try to eat them. I think I need to listen more to my body, lol.

I keep thinking about trying eggs- but maybe its not a good idea- but I need protein and odn't have many places I can tolerate it from. Oh god I really don't want to ahve to give up spinach!! I know for most people it would be a treat but since I was young it was always my favorite vegee- ahh.... I guess i might have to at least try cutting it out.

Thumbs up on our Rachelville Trophy!!! Sadly, I don't think I could even be in the running for the trophy, but I'll get over it, lol.:lol:

Okay, I may persuade my mom and aunt to go shopping at bed bath & beyond today to look for that STUPID ice cream maker. I'm not even a huge fan of ice cream  ...blasphemy!

Has anyone tried using coconut milk for icecream- it has fat - so it might work well.

My neighbor suggested something for me as far as eggs go. he said that a lot of the smell (What I have a problem with) and the taste of eggs is in the yolk. He said to try to make eggs using egg whites and some seasoning and see if I can tolerate it. I haven't tried it yet since this was last night, but I will sure let you know if it works.

Vincent...I meant all you ice cream fanatics and recipe-givers, not just the ladies... :)

Patti - Are you done with your home makeover? I still want pictures.

Nope--not done yet  This is turning into quite the production. Hope to get it buttoned up by the end of the week.

I feel for you being surrounded by all of the gluten! It would drive me nuts.

I'll bet that would work--I can't try it cause I'm very intolerant to coconut.

I'm interested to see. I may try it too, but my favorite part is actually the yoke, lol. :o

Happy weekend all!! :D

Cecile, great news about the kids' house! Post pictures!

Thanks, all, for the good wishes! I think I've found the culprit, but it makes no sense to me. I had a Crispy Rice Bar, the one with peanut butter, from Enviro Kidz, but I've eaten them before with no problems. ???

I don't want to give up spinach either. I'm wondering if I should try taking a couple of Benadryl about an hour before eating spinach. Do you think that would offset the high histamine content?

Susan, haven't you gotten rid of that bomb yet? Baaad chips!!!

My dumb computer won't let me see our town trophy! Suggestions?

Icecream is in the air :lol: Rachelville has gone icecream crazy!

MiaMia- I have seen other posts on the board about making icecream with coconut milk, my concern is I haven't been able to find a brand of coconut milk that doesn't put guar gum or some type of other additive as an ingredient. Also can you try other greens in place of the spinach while you do a trial elimination?

Donna- I have been off eggs for probably a couple months now, I was eating them everyday, sometimes twice a day, for years. I was highly allergic to them on my allergy test, I decided to take them out and see if it made a difference. So far so good.

I missed Mango!! How wonderful to hear from her. :)

Karen- the trophy is great!

*EDIT- shoot, my picture links don't work :(

Meredith, Meredith, Meredith.

How good to hear from you. Glad you made it safe and sound and even found some bumble bars.

Cecile,

Is there any way you can steer clear of even the interior of the house today?

Cissie,

How do you do with soy? Panda treats have soy oil in them.

Patti,

I always make time to at least check in. :P

Susan,

Doing any better today?

Miamia,

Sounds like you may be feeling better after this last attack.

All you ice cream buffs, enjoy! I miss the good ol ice cream too. We are dairy very light and going dairy free again (if I can handle it :P ). We have a champion juicer we make banana sorbet with...you can use any frozen fruit. I'm have a low allergy to banana so I don't have them more than once a week.

MEGAN UPDATE

SATURDAY, JULY 29, 2006 10:34 AM, CDT

Megan had a pretty good night last night. Fever only got up to around 102. It's going up again this morning, but motrin seems to be bringing it down. A nurse made a mistake and picked her up under her arms, a big no-no for just after open heart surgery. She's been in terrible pain ever since. They just gave her morphine and it finally relaxed her. The nurse was really sorry, but I hate it happened.

The doctors all agree that the fever is in response to a rejection of sorts to the contegra, or bovine vein. At this point they are not terribly alarmed and just want to keep a close watch on the fever. They also reduced the lasix and potassium today, so she's slowly getting off of meds.

It looks like we're going to a regular room today. That will be much easier on all of us as long as Meg's ready for it.

We hope you all have a nice weekend! Thanks for all the prayers and support.

That is so funny....I thought the same thing but I never checked out the thread cuz I had a relevation that it probably truelly was about spinach and I've just been spending ALOT of time in Rachelville. Had to remind myself to leave the farm once in awhile. :P

Mango!!

Hello and goodbye! Nice to hear from ya...glad you made it to Australia safely. :)

Yes, the population is rising and our parade now has two floats in it!! Can you believe it?? We've got Julie on one float (hair curled to perfection) waving, smiling and being the ambassador of good cheer that she is. Following our "greeter" we have Karen...who is equally cheerful with big smiles (but for different reasons) as she tosses Altoids into the crowd. Julie wears her tiara (provided by Penguin)....but what will Karen wear??? Horns maybe??

Mango....hope you can visit us again soon!! R-ville misses ya!

Robbin, sorry to hear about your eyes. :(

Fridays shouldnt have to feel like Mondays ever....in R-Ville Fridays will always feel like Fridays!!

Is the dilating when they put those yellow drops in your eyes? I had alot of that in the begininng because my eyes get really dry and stiff when I have bad reactions...which was every day back then when I was still clueless and eating a "normal" diet.

They never could figure out what was going on with my eyes but I fixed it myself with diet changes. Those yellow drops hurt my eyes real bad and made them even drier and stiffer.....I think I was probably sensitive to something in the drops. ALL of the eye drops made things worse for me. The eye pain I had back then was BY FAR the worst pain I've had throughout this illness. The eye doctor also would stick little pieces of paper into my eyes and make me sit there for awhile with paper sticking out of my eyes....that hurt too. It was to measure the dryness of my eyes I guess. Then she ended up putting plugs into my eyes to try to keep some moisture in since they were extremely dry....man, my poor eyes went through alot and all I needed was a diet change. :(

Do you think we can have those souvenitr shirts made up that say- "My _ went to Rachelville and all they brought me back was this t-shirt"

:lol::lol::lol:

Possibly gluten withdrawal. Lot's of info on the internet about it. Somewhat controversial but apparently gluten plugs into the same neuro sensors as opiates do and some people get a similar type withdrawal as they do when quitting opiates. Another issue is that gluten-free facsimile flours are not fortified with vitamins and minerals as is wheat flour (in the U.S. at least) so when the switch is made to gluten-free facsimile foods, especially if a lot of processed gluten-free foods are being used as substitutes, vitamin and mineral deficiencies can result. There is also the possibility that she has picked up a virus or some but that is totally unrelated to going gluten-free.
    • Heatherisle
Daughter has started gluten free diet this week as per gastroenterologists suggestion. However says she feels more tired and like she’s been hit by a train. I suggested it could be the change to gluten free or just stress from the endoscopy last week catching up with her. Just wondering if feeling more tired is a normal reaction at this stage. I suppose it’s possible some gluten might have been present without realising. Have tried to reassure her it’s not going to resolve symptoms overnight

Looking for help sourcing gluten-free products that do not contain potato or corn derived ingredients. I have other autoimmune conditions (Psoriatic Arthritis and Sjogrens) so I’m looking for prepared foods as I have fatigue and cannot devote a lot of time to baking my own treats.

I am so sorry you're going through this. It's completely understandable to feel frustrated, stressed, and disregarded after such a long and difficult health journey. It's exhausting to constantly advocate for yourself, especially when you're dealing with so many symptoms and positive diagnoses like SIBO, while still feeling unwell. The fact that you have been diligently following the diet without relief is a clear sign that something else is going on, and your doctors should be investigating other causes or complications, not dismissing your very real suffering.
    • Oldturdle
It is just so sad that health care in the United States has come to this.  Health insurance should be available to everyone, not just the healthy or the rich.  My heart goes out to you.  I would not hesitate to have the test and pay for it myself.  My big concern would be how you could keep the results truly private.  I am sure that ultimately, you could not.  A.I. is getting more and more pervasive, and all data is available somewhere.  I don't know if you could give a fake name, or pay for your test with cash.  I certainly would not disclose any positive results on a private insurance application.  As I understand it, for an official diagnosis, an MD needs to review your labs and make the call.  If you end up in the ER, or some other situation, just request a gluten free diet, and say it is because you feel better when you don't eat gluten.      Hang in there, though.  Medicare is not that far away for you, and it will remove a lot of stress from your health care concerns.  You will even be able to "come out of the closet" about being Celiac!
