Hi All--need some more 'positive vibes' for vascular surgeon apt at 9:30 tomorrow am. Hubby taking me so more relaxed this time as don't have to worry about parking and walking miles to get to office. Can't believe it was May 30th when i first got the 'chill's It's now into the 7th week. I think the celluititus is gone but the lymphedema is no better at all...

The first 2 weeks spent trying to get the right ace bandage and the 2 ordered compression stockings. nothing worked. Hubby and I tried so hard to get the bandages to stay where they were susposed to w/o cutting off circulation. Didn't master that

The custom made stocking didn't come in till yesterday at 5:00 pm and by that time couldn't get them on.

This am tried again, couldn't get them on..well, they got on but just cut deep dents in 3 places and the top kept rolling down and that's not good.

Soooooo, given this...I finally went on the internet and researched alot of info on this condition.

one said could be caused by tumors which is what i think is happening since i have 4 in calf and 1 in upper thigh and one big one in buttox..so know it will mean more test so he'll believe me and see if they are compressing on the (?)vessels.. see this is where i get lost..looked at a chart on the lymph system and where it goes but what do I do. Trust the dr to ask the right Q's as he did last time and there were alot of people in waiting room with this problem.

he said if the ace and compression stocking didn't work would order (and was sure i'd qualify) for one of those sleves pump. Had it in the hospital after hip replacement but don't know anything about it..

just thinking about traveling with the CPAP and now this thing..but i degress and must focus on info for tomorrow....stay focused Judy....

Here's the questions I've come up with--

1. why did the celluititus cause the lymphodemea? Since all my symptoms seem like those of ymphangitis (infection) could that have been it other than celluititus?

2. could the tumors be causing to lack of circulation?

3. do I qualify for insurance to cover 'manual lymphatic drainage' by a certified specialist? Thanks Lynne! :)

4. do you have a person you can recommend?

5. can I resume my weekly swimming program in a rehab center with pool at 90 degrees?

6. can you write a note so i can re instate the the insurance re emburcement? can the rehab swimming come under PT and be covered by insurance?

7. can I go to the rehab center I presently attend and went to after hip replacement? Or, do you have one to recommend?

Well thanks for listening to my ramblings..at least it helped clarify my thinking and questions for tomorrow.

I'm really in a pretty good place mentally..just weary of the long process...know you can identify Tanya.

Lynne good luck on apt tomorrow. Let me know how it goes ok. Thanks too for the support this week.

Jen, glad you are happy with the house decision.

Armetta, how are you?

Karen, where the heck are you?????

Patti, still haven't heard the details of your trip?? hope it went well!

Rhonda, thanks for ck'n out this thread --it was a long read I know!...so happy your on the board.

Tanya sounds like things are better or more stable right?

Bev, guess hubby is working alittle? didn't see any posts but then really just scaned the 'topics' fast.

Robbin and Fiddle Faddle--thanks for the support in the past.

hope i didn't leave anyone out.

Haven't been on much today & since the stocking and the ace weren't working I just said --heck what do i have to lose...after resting and keeping foot up went onto deck and repotted some plants and did some much need work...Hey, the soul needed some 'gardening' time..I did it their way and now it's my turn.

will let you know what the dr. says...so hope you keep me in your thoughts and prayers

love and hugs

Hubby how has the lyphedema in both legs and it got increasingly worse.....after the bursa removal operation it got worse. Connection?

Anyway, what kind of doctor should he see first? He's the type of person who you only have "one shot" at a doctor. If I trot him to the GP and they refer him to a specialist he'll get annoyed as he would have wanted to bypass the GP and go directly to that specialist....is there a special lympedema doctor?

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

Thanks Tiff and Karen..Deb so glad you wrote cause i was trying to remember whose hubby had this and tired to find your other posts yesterday but :o;) wasn't in my 'best mentally' to remember anything. I found a great site, that i bet you alread found, but it has specialists listed by States. I see your in NJ. I think i have your personal email and will try to forward the link. no sure how to do that through the forum email...Gosh, I don't know anything about this either but think there are 2 or 4 kinds of 'L' and one following surgery.

i'll try to forward the link. If your insurance doesn't need referals, you could go straight to one. i could ask my dr this am about one in NJ. Where in NJ are you?

yes, it's early,,couldn't sleep. Was up at 4:30.

IT'S ON BUT CUTTING INTO THE BACK OF THE KNEE WHERE THE VERACOSE VAINS ARE :o:unsure::blink::o KNOW THAT'S NOT GOOD BUT LET THEM SEE.

GOTA GO

THANKS AGAIN.WILL CK ON THE "L" FORUM WHEN I GET BACK..JUST DIDN'T WANT TO RESEACH ANYTHING YEST BUT DID SOME.

Judy,

I hope your doctor’s appointment went well. Have you heard of (MLD) manual lymphatic drainage? It is a massage technique to help the lymph drain out of swollen tissues. It is supposed to be very gentle.

I hope you get completely better soon.

Judy, I hope the doctor appt. went well and that you got some needed advice. I am glad that you wore your stockings so that they can see what they are doing to your leg. Please let us know what the doctor said. Still praying and sending lots of big HUGS your way.

Yes Judy...curious to hear how appt went...

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

Hi

Thanks for the support friends. Apt went well I'm just so exhausted. got home after 3 hrs of running to chiro and drug store, leg hurt so took of ace that the assistant put on with gause pad in places that are deformed do to tumor. There were about 4 horrid deep dents so no wonder it was painful. We both thought it would be the way to wrap it. Gave me phone #'s of more alternative kinds of compression options..all to be reseached my me...about 10 phone calls and then went to bed for 3 hrs

So no answers but alot of options one being the MLD and called about that

Good news can start swimming on Monday again.

what to do for compression till Mon..who knows...???

too tired to eat and Jim is cooking something for himself. thank god he's independent. I just don't want to eat + it's so hot and humid here.

So all is good and cellulitius is gone but Lumphedemea is here for sure for life. Maybe the reality of living with this is hitting me on top of knowing i need the tumors out. Oh Bernese, he said he knew that the tumors were not the cause of this..or poor cirrculation..so got all questions answered but just the options to figure out.

thanks

judy

Hi Judy- glad that appt went relatively well. You must be SO tired. Big hugs, Beverly

PS Kurt had an echocardiogram today which showed his heart is perfectly normal- no clots, congenital defects, artery problems. Still waiting for blood test results, but relieved. Thanks for asking sweets.....

So glad the Cellulitis is gone, but sad that you have to figure out what treatment to follow up with for the tumors. I can't imagine calling 10 places trying to get answers for this. LOL. Of course I can as we all have placed hundreds of calls to see if we can safely eat something  Duh, I can't believe that I said that statement about placing 10 phone calls. I guess I need to go back to bed and see if my brain regroups.

Glad your home and that you took your nap. Prayers and Hugs.

Hi Judy :D I was thinking about you today--I'm glad that you got some good news! I think swimming will be very good for you--nice gentle excercise for your leg, without the threat of getting overheated. One step at a time....

Judyin Philly Enthusiast

Patti and Armetta--I know, i'm JUST GOING TO FOCUS on the 'swimming and gardening' in moderation of course..but seeing beyond today and back to 'getting my old life back, such as it was  ' HELL anything will be better than the past 7 weeks and no HOSPITAL always have to come back to that..

now i still haven't eaten anything but tuna and the CANDY BAR today need to eat but want to take a load down stairs and down to basement on the way....grrrr. I'm putting away all the 'bedding' Jim even came into the room today and said it looked like a 'bomb went off in here'

so putting all laundry away and 'sweaters...do you believe when i started this 'event' i was wearing a sweater..

Armetta..don't worrying about the 10 phone calls comment. i knew what you meant and i wouldn't have even been so 'taxed' about it but could only get those damn, 'your call is so imprortant to us that we are going to give you 10,000 prompts to pick from and when you decided to pick one...THERE STILL WON'T BE A PERSON TO TALK TO .

@Colleen H   I am just curious,  when you were tested for coeliac disease, did the doctors find out if you had any deficiencies? Sometimes muscle pain can be caused by certain deficiencies, for example, magnesium, vitamin D, calcium, and potassium.   Might be worth looking into having some more tests.  Pins and needles can be neuropathy, again caused by deficiencies, such as iron and B12,  which can be reversed if these deficiencies are addressed. In the UK where I live we are usually only tested for iron, B12 and vitamin D deficiencies at diagnosis.   I was very iron anemic and supplementation made a big difference.  B12 was low normal, but in other countries the UK's low normal would be considered a deficiency.  My vitamin D was low normal, and I've been supplementing ever since (when I remember to take it!) My pins and needles definitely started to improve when my known deficiencies were addressed.  My nutritionist also gave me a broad spectrum supplement which really helped, because I suspect I wasn't just deficient in what I mention above but in many other vitamins and minerals.  But a word of warning, don't take iron unless blood tests reveal you actually need it, and if you are taking it your levels must be regularly monitored because too much can make you ill.  (And if you are currently taking iron, that might actually be making your stomach sore - it did mine, so my GP changed my iron supplementation to a gentler form, ferrous gluconate). Lastly, have you been trying to take anything to lessen the pain in your gut?  I get a sore stomach periodically, usually when I've had too much rich food, or when I have had to take an aspirin or certain antibiotics, or after glutening.  When this happens, I take for just a few days a small daily dose of OTC omeprazole.  I also follow a reflux or gastritis diet. There are lots online but the common denominators to these diets is you need to cut out caffeine, alcohol, rich, spicy, acidic food etc and eat small regularly spaced meals.   When I get a sore stomach, I also find it helpful to drink lots of water.  I also find hot water with a few slices of ginger very soothing to sip, or camomile tea.  A wedge pillow at night is good for reflux. Also,  best not to eat a meal 2-3 hours before going to bed. If the stomach pain is getting worse, though, it would be wise to see the doctor again. I hope some of this helps. Cristiana

I was diagnosed with coeliac disease a couple of years ago [ish]. I love my food and a variety of food, so it's been hard, as it is with everyone. I try and ensure everything I eat doesn't contain gluten, but occasionally I think something must have got through that has gluten in. Mainly I know because I have to dash to the loo, but recently I have noticed that I feel nauseous after possibly being glutened. I think the thing that I have got better at is knowing what to do when I feel wiped out after a gluten 'episode'. I drink loads of water, and have just started drinking peppermint tea. I also have rehydration powders to drink. I don't feel like eating much, but eventually feel like I need to eat. Gluten free flapjacks, or gluten free cereal, or a small gluten free kids meal are my go to. I am retired, so luckily I can rest, sometimes even going to bed when nothing else works. So I feel that I am getting better at knowing how to try and get back on track. I am also trying to stick to a simpler menu and eat mostly at home so that I can be more confident about what I am eating. THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED ABOUT THE NAUSEA .

Thanks. Since the back and forth and promises of review and general stalling went on for more than six months, the credit company will no longer investigate. They have a cutoff of maybe six months.
    • Scott Adams
Is this the same restaurant? https://www.facebook.com/TheHappyTartFallsChurch/ Is it too late to take this up with your credit card company? Normally you have a few months to do a chargeback with them. It seems very odd that they are taking this approach with someone who is likely to be a regular customer--not a good business-minded way of handling things!
    • Scott Adams
Many people with celiac disease, especially those who are in the 0-2 year range of their recovery, have additional food intolerance issues which could be temporary. To figure this out you may need to keep a food diary and do an elimination diet over a few months. Some common food intolerance issues are dairy/casein, eggs, corn, oats, and soy. The good news is that after your gut heals (for most people who are 100% gluten-free this will take several months to two years) you may be able to slowly add some these items back into your diet after the damaged villi heal. This article may be helpful: The most common nutrient deficiencies associated with celiac disease that may lead to testing for the condition include iron, vitamin D, folate (vitamin B9), vitamin B12, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.  Unfortunately many doctors, including my own doctor at the time, don't do extensive follow up testing for a broad range of nutrient deficiencies, nor recommend that those just diagnosed with celiac disease take a broad spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement, which would greatly benefit most, if not all, newly diagnosed celiacs. Because of this it took me decades to overcome a few long-standing issues I had that were associated with gluten ataxia, for example numbness and tingling in my feet, and muscle knots--especially in my shoulders an neck. Only long term extensive supplementation has helped me to resolve these issues.
