How long after eating gluten does it take for your body to respond with symptoms? Sorry if there is already a topic on this.... I probably missed it.

For me it's a half hour and it lasts up to five days.

I start to feel a reaction in about 2 hours.

It is slightly different everytime, but it usually goes something like this:

The brain fog starts after about 15-45 minutes, but it can take up to few hours for the pain and D to start. It usually takes about 14 days before I'm feeling close to 100% better, but after 5-7 days I feel well enough to do "normal" activities.

[i am a slow reactor..usually not till the next morning/ "D" + cramping. it varies with each individual.

Luck to you, evie :)

Everyone is different, depending on the time that you have been gluten free. I have tried to be gluten free since dx'd in August 05. It has been a long haul. At first it was within a half hour. Then time time came that it was longer, and longer and longer. Today, if I get glutened it will take about 24 hours to feel the bloating, D, and brain fog. Unfortunatly, the brian fog hits first and the arms and hands start to shake.

The limbs shaking may be a side effect of Celiac. I will look into that after this weekend. If not Celiac, it may be associated with another autoimmune fellow.

If you are new to this, it will take some time for my body to heal, be patient, be dilligent, and careful and you will feel better soon. It takes time. Time to learn the diet and all that it includes, and time for your body to heal itself....But, most of all, it takes time for your mind to adjust to a new life-style. It is not the end of the world, it is just a change.

Hope that was helpfu, Lisa

I react within 10 to 20 minutes. I get severe heartburn that thinks you are having a heart attack. Then my stomach pains start. As far as your limbs trembling, you might look into familial tremors. It can be a side affect of undiagnosed Celiac. My Mother had them bad and I also do. I take medicine at bedtime trying to keep them under control.

I generally am slow - usually it's the next day before I realize what's happened. But recently it's been sooner, 6 hours, and then the other day, 15 mins. Stomach pain and a weird feeling like I was phasing out (like when they beam people up in Star Trek) and I flat out had to say, "I don't feel well." It was weird. And I didn't suspect what I'd just eaten 15 mins earlier because it usually takes a while for me to react.

I know some people are like clockwork and in a way I wish I was, too.

For gluten, with me, I start with some light gas about 2-4 hours later (say I have something at dinner time), then about 6-8 hours later, horrible, horrible, cramping and D until there isn't anything left in my system.

Then I take my Imodium and anti spasm meds for my colon. Then for about another 3 days, I am on meds until I can wake up without cramping.

Everyone is different.

For me I usually get dizzy and have difficulty breathing. That lasts about 20 minutes. Then I get weak arms and legs, then D starts in and lasts about 2 days. If I have only had one gluten misstake, it takes me about 3 dys to get over it. I have had free meals from restraunts because after I tell the waitress in great depth what I can and cannot eat, and they still come out with gluten hidden in my meal, they offer my meal for free. (a gluten free one that is) Sometimes, I even get gift certificates for 6 free meals. :D

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
