Lubriderm-gluten-free?

Geez, I'm on a roll today trying to find culprits to this hideous feeling! Is Lubriderm gluten-free? I thought it was but now am unsure. Maybe we're just all supposed to buy nothing and use nothing and eat only things we swat or find on trees! I'm losing it!!!!! And I feel the planet is losing it as well! Since I think we're kind of a big detriment to the earth as a whole, maybe this is the beginning of humans going down the evolutionary tube!

Thanks, anyone out there.

Can't vouch 100%, but I use it every day. Not the one with oats.

I used it for awhile (the one without oats) and was feeling ill. i called them and they said that they do not know all of their sources so they do not guarantee anything gluten-free. this might not apply to you (this was about in december?), but i wanted to let you know.

Thank you. I was using the Lubriderm as a sunscreen but I think I read on here that Banana Boat is gluten-free so maybe I'll try that. I like Burt's Bees, so I'll get some hand cream.

Thank you!

This tread is over three years old. Here is some current information based on the 2009-10 Cecelia's Market Place Gluten Free Grocery Shopping Guide (found in the Gluten Free Mall)

Lubriderm -

Daily Moisture Lotion (Advanced Therapy, Fragrance Free, Regular, Sensitive Skin, w/SPF 15, w/Sea Kelp Extract, w/Shea & Cocoa Butters)

....all gluten free

***just because a company cannot confirm their products gluten free status, does not mean it is not gluten free. Many times its a business CYA statement. Check the ingredients and find a second source.

I dont know where that last quote came from but I just called lubriderm myself this WEEK and was told they cannot guarantee their product is gluten free. I posted this on another part of the board too under something like calls I've made this week. I had called specifically about the sensitive skin lotion, but I believe they said ANY of their products could have cross contamination.

I am celiac and very careful about my diet. I have used Lubriderm for years without any problems, but recently I have developed a rash that looks exactly like dermatitis herpetiformis. Before I realized that there was such a rash, I thought it was just very, very dry skin. So I was using more and more Lubriderm AND guess what -- the rash got worse, really, really worse! I do not know what is in this lotion, but I do not recommend it, to say the least.

I can relate to the frustration.  Some days I get like that.  I try hard to be careful, yet still have problems.  I have seen on the Kiss My Face website that all their products are gluten-free.  I just ordered a Kiss My face grapefruit bergamot hand lotion from amazon and couldn;t wait to get it. My hands have been so dry that they are sore and sting when I get them wet.  The lotion came yesterday and I started happily rubbing it in, and then realized it did not smell like citrus at all.  In fact, it smelled awful.  I couldn't stand it and had to keep washing my hands trying to get the smell out.  I found what might be an expiration date, and if so, it expired in 2016.  It might be rancid and that might be the gross smell.  Now I am seeing if they will refund my money or not.  I felt so frustrated because my hands are so dry and sore.  The two stores in town that used to sell Kiss My face are no longer in business.  I will have to check out a new store in town to see if they sell it (but I have  been feeling so awful I never feel up to going out, I only go for things I must go out to do),  or order directly from Kiss My face.  I do like Kiss My face products a lot. I just wish they had more scents. I'd love to find a gluten-free rose lotion.  If I can't, maybe I can find an unscented one and add rose essential oil.  Rose is suppose to be good for hormonal issues (even in men too, go figure).  Or so I have read and heard.  I also would love to find a gluten-free lotion that helps skin firming and elasticity.

I use cocoanut oil. And I use Shea butter. I bought online. Comes pure straight from Africa.  I checked out Bath and Body shop. It’s all gluten free  I don’t use Lubriderm but my hubby asked me to put it on his back  nothing happened to my hands  but gluten would pass through the pores into your body  and I wouldn’t know it

I have been using a little bit of Lubriderm when I wash my hands because it’s the lotion offered at a place I frequent once a week. Assuming it was gluten-free I bought a bottle. I couldn’t figure out why I was getting gluten EVERY night. I use a little of the lotion in the morning on my neck, with no reaction, but at night, I use it on my arms and legs and face and get gluten gut pretty bad. After eight nights of having to have diphenhydramine injections for severe gluten, I googled “is Lubriderm gluten-free” and it led me to this forum. I am going to go back to olive oil as I have been gut sick sooooooo bad with a huge gut and pain eight days in a row now. Sick of feeling sick.

Mswena Newbie

So eight days in a row of gluten on top of gluten on top of gluten, I just had to resort to the EpiPen. I wish I could post a picture because you wouldn’t believe how enormous my gut is! It makes my head look like a pinhead.Ahhhgggsahhhhh!!!! I have discovered that I have to read the ingredients when I use a product up that I’ve been able to use without getting a reaction, because they can change the ingredients and bam my toothpaste now has gluten!!! my doctor told me gluten free means it has 20 ppm which someone with a severe a celiac as I’ve got that thing there kills me. I try to find certified gluten-free in everything. I can’t eat any oats unless it’s Bob’s red mill certified gluten-free. Good luck everybody this autoimmune disease is wicked wicked

So, you had both and endoscopy with biopsy and a colonoscopy. That helps me understand what you were trying to communicate. No, no! It never occurred to me that you were trying to mislead me. It's just that we get a lot of posters on the forum who are misinformed about what celiac disease is and how it is diagnosed so I need some clarification from you which you were so gracious to give.
    • barb simkin
I had both the genetic genes for celiac.  My gastroenologist advised he also took a biopsy during one of my colonoscopies and endoscopy and advised I had celiac disease, along with stomach ulcers from my esophagus stomach down to my small bowel. I was shown the ulcers on the catscan and endoscopy report.  I also had polyps in 3 places throughout my large bowel. I was on a strict diet for months following.  I am sorry if I didnt define how I was diagnosed with celiac disease.  I am sorry if you think I was misleading you. I also had to pay $150.00 for the genetic testing.

So, I'm a little confused here. I understand you to say that you have not been officially diagnosed with celiac disease. Is this correct?  You have had genetic testing done to check for the potential for developing celiac disease and that was positive. Is this correct? I think you meant to type "gluten sensitivity" but you typed "gluten insensitivity". Just so we are clear about the terminology, there is celiac disease and there is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity). They are not the same but they have overlapping symptoms. Celiac disease causes damage to the small bowel lining but NCGS does not. NCGS is often referred to in short form as gluten sensitivity. However, people often use the terms celiac disease and gluten sensitivity interchangeably so it can be unclear which disease they are referring to. Genetic testing cannot be used to diagnose celiac disease but it can be used to establish the potential to develop active celiac disease. About 40% of the general population has one or both of  the genes that have been most strongly connected with the potential to develop active celiac disease but only about 1% of the population actually develops active celiac disease. This makes the genetic test useful for ruling out celiac disease but not for diagnosing it. A colonoscopy cannot be used to diagnose celiac disease because it doesn't permit the scope to go up into the small bowel where celiac disease does the damage. They use an endoscopy ("upper GI) for checking the small bowel lining for celiac damage.

I did nor read the chocolate pkg as it was of fered to me and I ate 2 pcs. I do know that only very dark chocolate and and a very few others are gluten free. Most alcohols contain gluten. I have several yrs of not knowing my celiac condition as docs would not do the test. After looking on the internet about my sufferings I insisted on the gene trsting which showed positive for gluten insensitivity and a biopsy on my next colonoscopy that also showed positive which could not help the damage done to my small bowel. So I very rarely have a glass of wine

@barb simkin, are you sure the chocolate products are gluten-free and not "manufactured on equipment that also handles wheat products and tree nuts", i.e., cross-contamination? And what kind of alcoholic beverages are we talking about? Most beers are made from gluten-containing grains. Just checking.
