Andrea--Have your kids ever seen "The Waltons"? I still like the reruns of that show. It is absolutely charming. I also like Andy Griffith--once in a while it'll be on and I catch it. Good stuff!

Oh, that's right....we do have the season premier of that. Talitha hasn't asked to watch it again though. That was another we were thinking of getting. She is pretty much into Little House, as am I. She has been on that binge lately, then she'll go back to Mister Ed a lot. There is one episode about Ed and a girl horse named Sabrina that they like quoting from. Ed wants Sabrina to be his lifelong partner and goes to see her in the morning. At the stable door he says "Sabrina, are you decent?" before going in. He decides he doesn't like her morning looks. Anyway the kids will go around saying that. Talitha thinks that because she watches these episodes that everyone else does too. She'll get some pretty strange looks sometimes and she doesn't understand. :P

Hey Rachel. Where is your new pic? I changed mine & then made a boo boo & lost my new pic so I am back to the old one.

AndreaB Contributor
I hate to admit it but I love Andy Griffith also. Ha!

Did you ever watch Matlock?

I guess I've seen it before but wasn't a huge fan.

:o:o OMG.....LOVE them!!!

OK...my dork meter went off the charts a long time ago so I'm not really gonna concern myself with that.

Susan...are you saying you wouldnt wanna hang out with me and Julie....watching Grease 2 and ice skating shows??? What are you THINKING??? It would be a blast....:lol:

Ok...well maybe I would think I'd died and gone to hell too if I wasnt an ex-skater. Thats the only reason I like it. :P

However, I didnt skate on the ice...I was a roller skater.

Yes, I did this competetively....wore the same skirt type outfits the ice skaters wear....I had a partner too. It was basically the same except when I fell I didnt freeze my butt off. :D

Ooooh...maybe one day I'll change my avatar to an old pic of me in my roller skating days.

That one would stay up for about 5 minutes....

Rachel, who knew we had so many similarities, and nerdy and dorky ones at that

I loved to go roller skating with all my friends, that was the cool thing to do in the late 70s, early 80s, go to Skate City and go around and round in a circle while Bonnie TYler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" blared on the loud speaker

:lol::lol:

Good times!!!

We have to see that picture of you from your roller skating days, I do believe that tops the purple dress and heels

That was the only thing to do when I was in my early teens is go to the roller rink. We did have so much fun back then just going with my friends & being goofy.

Gosh Julie--I am learning that we have a lot in common!

I also need to buy petite pants! I'm 5 foot 3, but my arms and legs are short--I'm more long-waisted. That's really all that I get from Chadwicks--they have so many choices in petite pants. For petite jeans, I always buy Lee Riders--their petite length fits me perfectly.

I love ice skating! I took lessons for years when I was young. When my older son was about 3 or 4, I wanted to take him to Disney on Ice--he wasn't all that interested--it was me who really wanted to go! Used to love the Ice Capades, too when I was little.

I still love all of those 60's and 70's TV shows. My favorites were Gidget (I wanted her hair), That Girl, (her hair, too) and Bewitched. Did you like to watch beauty pagents? I always looked forward to Miss America--the hairdos and the gowns--beautiful...

We do have a lot in common Patti! Buying pants is such an ordeal for me so I am always so happy to find a catalog that carries a wide variety of petite pants in the latest/trendy styles. I'm 5'4 but I have shorter legs than my 5'3 SIL, it's so funny!

No, I never have gotten into the beauty pageants.

Speaking of beauty pageants, that reminds me of the Jon Benet Ramsey case  That guy they arrested looks and sounds kind of creepy, I wonder if it's true that he did it??

...what about Ice Capades, Stars On Ice, the Ice Skating shows??

When I was little I got to go to the Ice Capades about every year. I LOVED them  I got to see Smurfs on ice, snow white on ice (I do believe that was probably my favorite) and tons of others. I always got to get the program book as a souvineer. I do believe they are all still at my parents house  Shhh dont' tell mom :P

Also LOVE the circus. I would also get to go to the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus about every year. It's coming to the area around my b-day this year.......sure wish somebody would take me! ha

Once, at the circus, I even got to be in the clown parade..........talk about a fun time!!

Sounds like that would be one of those songs that would have an announcement of "COUPLES SKATE" before it :P

Julie,

We thought about trying to get some Flipper shows but I don't remember a lot about them and my daughter is easily scared. Some Little House shows scare her. There is one episode (2 parter) that we won't watch, at least until they are much older, it has to do with rape. There was another one that we decided to watch that was iffy and it scared her....I can only imagine what that episode would do, and I've never seen it either.

I used to watch most of the shows you listed too.

I completely understand, there was some of Little House that even scared me when I was younger. I think it was the rape episode in fact, also when one of the little girls fell down in some hole or something like that, she was trapped? I remember being anxious about that.

What about some of the PBS shows? i.e. Dragon Tales?

Also Veggie Tales??

Sounds like that would be one of those songs that would have an announcement of "COUPLES SKATE" before it :P

ROTFLMAO Jessica :lol::lol::lol:

So true!!

I remember the dude I had a crush on when I was in 4th grade, he was in 6th grade. His name was Kevin something. One of my friends told him I liked him and he asked me to skate with him, I was so embarrassed.......

Chelsea,

Sorry about your hair.....that sounds like a nightmare.

Now I'm a bit more carrot top than ronald mcdonald, but it's still not done. And I smell like a cathedral. Which isn't necessarily bad, I always loved that smell :)

Ok... I'll arrange that. LOL!

But seriously... The Price is Right is better than Lazytown...which is what I'm watching.

I would rather spend eternity with Bob Barker telling me to spay and neuter my pets than watch 5 minutes of Lazytown. That show is 'effin creepy!

And MUSICALS! Love them!

My all-time favorite is "The Music Man". We went up to New York City to see it on Broadway for our 25th anniversary. It was fantastic. When Craig Bierko (the man who played H. Hill) did his last performance, we went back and saw it again about a year later. It was great to be there on his last day :)

I love all of the songs fron the older shows like "My Fair Lady" and "Camelot".

My favorite is "Once Upon a Mattress"...so funny! I think that's at least partially because my high school did it and my biggest crush ever was King Sextimus :rolleyes:

*sigh*

Sorry, what were we talking about again?

...what about Ice Capades, Stars On Ice, the Ice Skating shows??

Now my dork meter has really gone up

:lol::lol:

My Wierd S*it o'meter replaced my dork o meter long ago

LOVE LOVE Ice Skating shows. One of my two athletic medals is a gold metal for skating :)

I didn't see the other kids, but they must have sucked, because I fell during my routine

This morning on my way to the store I was listening to a local talk-radio station. The host was saying that he thought that the guy who was arrested only hinted at doing it--that this guy was in trouble in Tailand, and wanted to get back to the U.S. instead of facing the law over there.

Supposedly, according to this radio host, he is using this situation to get back here--and when he does, he'll have some sort of proof that he didn't kill her.

Again, this is what I heard this morning--don't know if there's any truth to it or not.

It will be interesting to see how it unfolds--I can't believe it's been 10 years.

He pretty much confessed, during the press conference no less. Though he admitted that before to the authorities. He said that he was with her when she died, and that he didn't mean for her to die, that he loved her. As I understand it, he was trying to find a teaching job in Thailand, escaping from child porn charges in California I think.

I don't know why he'd want to come back here to avoid the law over there...he's facing first degree murder charges, sexual assault of a minor, and first degree kidnapping charges.

Yea Chelsea--

I have no idea why he'd want to come back under those circumstances. I was just repeating what I had heard. Like I said, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

For anyone interested, here's an article from today's New York Times--

Donna,

How's the chocolate (I'm so said I need to refrain) withdrawal going?

So far so good, it's been almost 2 weeks I think...withdrawals...well...I think you'd have to ask those around me, lol.

The Price Is Right! I haven't watched that in ages. It's hard to believe Bob Barker is still going at it.

Yah, he was on it when I was a kid...that must make him 100 by now, lol.

Off topic...well, but what isn't off topic here  .....does anyone do any catalog/internet ordering?? If so what are your favorite companies/sites??

I love zappos.com, finish line, lands end, old navy, j crew, victoria's secret, and amazon .com, to name a few.

Oh, man, my cc info is all over the internet, lol. Favorite sites: firemountaingems.com, qvc.com, collagevideo.com (fitness videos), nordstrom.com....well the list goes on an on and on...apparently the Rachel things goes across the board in all areas of my life.

I know. We were still living in Georgia then, and I remember reading about it in the paper right after it happened. I thought it was so sad--and it happened the night after Christmas.

@rei.b,  I understand how frustrating starting a new way of eating can be.  I tried all sorts of gluten-free processed foods and just kept feeling worse.  My health didn't improve until I started the low histamine AIP diet.  It makes a big difference.   Gluten fits into opioid receptors in our bodies.  So, removing gluten can cause withdrawal symptoms and reveals the underlying discomfort.  SIBO can cause digestive symptoms.  SIBO can prevent vitamins from being absorbed by the intestines.  Thiamine insufficiency causes Gastrointestinal Beriberi (bloating, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation).  Thiamine is the B vitamin that runs out first because it can only be stored for two weeks.  We need more thiamine when we're sick or under emotional stress.  Gastric Beriberi is under recognised by doctors.  An Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test is more accurate than a blood test for thiamine deficiency, but the best way to see if you're low in thiamine is to take it and look for health improvement.  Don't take Thiamine Mononitrate because the body can't utilize it well.  Try Benfotiamine.  Thiamine is water soluble, nontoxic and safe even at high doses.  I thought it was crazy, too, but simple vitamins and minerals are important.  The eight B vitamins work together, so a B Complex, Benfotiamine,  magnesium and Vitamin D really helped get my body to start healing, along with the AIP diet.  Once you heal, you add foods back in, so the AIP diet is worth doing for a few months. I do hope you'll consider the AIP diet and Benfotiamine.

Imemsm, Most of us have experienced discontinued, not currently available or products that suddenly become seasonal.   My biggest fear about relocating from Maryland to Florida 5 years ago, was being able to find gluten-free foods that fit my restricted diet.  I soon found out that the Win Dixie and Publix supper markets actually has 99% of their gluten-free foods tagged, next to the price.  The gluten-free tags opened up a  lot of foods that aren't actually marked gluten-free by the manufacture.  Now I only need to check for my other dietary restrictions.  Where my son lives in New Hartford, New York there's a Hannaford Supermarket that also has a gluten-free tag next to the price tag.  Hopefully you can locate a Supermarket within a reasonable travel distance that you can learn what foods to check out at a Supermarket close to you.  I have dermatitis herpetiformis too and I'm very sensitive to gluten and the three stores I named were very gluten-free friendly.  Good Luck

Okay well the info about TTG-A actually makes a lot of sense and I wish the PA had explained that to me. But yes, I would assume I would have intestinal damage from eating a lot of gluten for 32 years while having all these symptoms. As far as avoiding gluten foods - I was definitely not doing that. Bread, pasta, quesadillas (with flour tortillas) and crackers are my 4 favorite foods and I ate at least one of those things multiple times a day e.g. breakfast with eggs and toast, a cheese quesadilla for lunch, and pasta for dinner, and crackers and cheese as a before bed snack. I'm not even kidding.  I'm not really big on sugar, so I don't really do sweets. I don't have any of those conditions.  I am not sure if I have the genes or not. When the geneticist did my genetic testing for EDS this year, I didn't think to ask for him to request the celiac genes so they didn't test for them, unfortunately.  I guess another expectation I had is  that if gluten was the issue, the gluten-free diet would make me feel better, and I'm 3 months in and that hasn't been the case. I am being very careful and reading every label because I didn't want to screw this up and have to do gluten-free for longer than necessary if I end up not having celiac. I'm literally checking everything, even tea and anything else prepacked like caramel dip. Honestly its making me anxious 😅
    • knitty kitty
So you're saying that you think you should have severe intestinal damage since you've had the symptoms so long?   DGP IgG antibodies are produced in response to a partial gluten molecule.  This is different than what tissue transglutaminase antibodies are  produced in response to.   TTg IgA antibodies are produced in the intestines in response to gluten.  The tTg IgA antibodies attack our own cells because a structural component in our cell membranes resembles a part of gluten.  There's a correlation between the level of intestinal damage with the level of tTg antibodies produced.  You are not producing a high number of tTg IgA antibodies, so your level of tissue damage in your intestines is not very bad.  Be thankful.   There may be reasons why you are not producing a high quantity of tTg IgA antibodies.  Consuming ten grams or more of gluten a day for two weeks to two months before blood tests are done is required to get sufficient antibody production and damage to the intestines.  Some undiagnosed people tend to subconsciously avoid lots of gluten.  Cookies and cakes do not contain as much gluten as artisan breads and thick chewy pizza crust.  Anemia, diabetes and thiamine deficiency can affect IgA antibody production as well.   Do you carry genes for Celiac?  They frequently go along with EDS.
    • rei.b
I was tested for celiac at the same time, so I wasn't taking naltrexone yet. I say that, because I don't. The endoscopy showed some mild inflammation but was inconclusive as to celiac disease. They took several biopsies and that's all that was shown. I was not given a Marsh score.
