OMG!!! :D I always wondered what all that meant. Now I may not be in so much trouble when I get "nothing" and am silly enough not to run for cover.

The appt on Tuesday went very well. I was impressed because they have another doctor seeing patients (my regular ped is away), plus they had a student (an MD studying pediatrics).. to my surprise, they had reviewed her file the night before, along with my letter and had a "game plan". We got the blood taken first thing this morning - complete urine, a whole whack of blood work to see what the liver is up to, plus C3 and C4 compliments, ANA, antibodies ot the liver and hepatitis screen. Everything needed!

We have to book an ultrasound (liver) yet, I may not be able to do that til Friday but am relieved they took me seriously and are being thorough. They asked "how good are you about gluten free with her?".... before I said anything - Kathryn pipes up and says " I CANT have ANY gluten and neither can my brother. It makes me really sick and I dont want to make myself sick!" She thought it was a stupid question til I explained tnat they have to ask because some kids do find it hard to follow. Loved that she was outspoken about it though :)

I took her to a lab in Calgary bright and early this morning, we have a lab that is closer but each time I used them, they bruised her arm up terribly + multiple pokes because they dont routinely do kids. The lab I took her to this morning, slid the needle in and started filling tubes.

Wil keep my eye out for new jokes.

I'm glad the appt went so well! They sound like they were very thorough and are taking everything very seriously. What a relief!

Thanks for the update Sandy. Glad things are going well and that you took her to a different lab. Having someone who is good at draws makes a big difference, especially to a child.

Sounds like a good group of doctors. Will be looking for updates as you have them. :)

Just got a call from my mom who got a call from a friend in Arizona yesterday I think. My dad has gone downhill fast. I just talked to him Saturday and he sounded fine aside from his voice not being very good. I think it was Monday night that he lost it and got violent, then after that weepy. They had to call the paramedics twice. He's in hospice care and they are trying to get his meds evened out to send him back home to die. He's been pulled off dialysis. Doctors have determined it will do no further good. Death is imminent. He's totally incoherant. I'm hoping his wife will call at some point but she's under a great deal of stress and is not doing well with this either.

Andrea, my thoughts and prayers are with you. We just lost Mike's mom Jan 4th after a month in ICU, watching the deterioration was the worst part.

I'm sure his wife doesnt even know what to do moment to moment becasue it's all consuming.

GOOD NEWS :)

Kathryn's test came back negative for autoimmune hepatitis. Huge relief here. They dont know why she has had bilirubin and urobilinogen but liver looks fine on blood and on ultrasound.

Next step is the ped consulted a rheumatologist because she does have an elevated ANA and they suggested some more blood work to investigate that.

I'm making donuts today to celebrate ( I am using the reciope for buttermilk donuts I got from this site :) ) yummy

Just popping my head in to say Rachel was correct and I should spend more time on silly threads, even if the title offends me it doesn't mean its not just a silly joke.

In order to try and make pennance and prove to the unbleliving I can be humble and silly I respectfully ask to be put in charge of the sewage plant... somewhere my scientific background and serious nature can be exploited to the full.

I swear to take the best care of everyones poop and to make some great manure once I figure out a way of seperating out the glutened stuff that might drift down to me from time to time.

On the otherhand I can see why some of you might be suspicious of having a scientist in your midst and I would be quite willing to work my way up to head-sewer master from any position that doesn't come past my neck....

Welcome, gfp!

I am not in charge of hiring and firing, but I'm almost certain you can take over the sewage plant. In fact, we don't have one, so you get to build it!

The "no scientificness" idea came from the OMG thread ... it turned into a social thread for time and Rachel, being the scientist/researcher she is, started this thread so the other could get back to more serious business. So, the "no scientificness" is actually the opposite of what you thought!!! It's because she IS scientific and wanted the silliness OUT of the scientific thread!! LOL :lol::lol:

I always knew you had a sense of humor ... even in your serious posts I could see it ... ;)

Hello all! I havent been by here in ages!! Just thought I would stop in and say HI everyone! All has been well here, since Colin got his hands on one of my meds (not a dangerous one, thank god) today he got the bag of rice crackers and proceeded to put them all in his mouth. We havent gotten to the understanding part of putting a piece in and chewing it first! LOL. otherwise we are all well.

I hope everyone out there is well. I will be attending a gluten free pizza party held by my local celiac group, and I am excited. It was also mentioned in an email from the lady who leads it that the 2nd annual gluten free vendors fair is coming soon! How I would love to attend that!

      Maybe you have a low  intolerance to Wheat.   Rye, Barley and Malt are the gluten in Celiac disease.  It has always been stated Wheat and Gluten, not just a Wheat intolerance.  Barley will keep me in bed for (2) weeks.  Gut, Migrains, Brain fog, Diahrea.  It is miserable.  And when I was a toddler the doctor would give me a malt medicine because I always had Anemia and did not grow.  Boy was he off.  But at that time the US didn't know anyone about Celiac.  This was the 1940s and 50s.  I had my first episode at 9 months and did not get a diagnosis until I was 50.  My immune system was so shot before being diagnoised, so now I live with the consequences of it. I was so upset when Manufacturers didn't want to label their products so they added barley to the product.  It was mostly the cereal industry.  3 of my favorite cereals were excluded because of this. Malt gives me a bad Gut reaction.
