I have my colonoscopy and biopsy tomorrow, therefore I am drinking the jug of stuff to clean me out. It is horrible. Any suggestions? I don't know if I can get it down. It tastes like ocean water! Please help!

What do they have you drinking? I only had to drink the Fleet phosphosoda stuff...still tastes like ocean but its only a small bottle. I couldnt imagine drinking a jug of the stuff.

The tiny bottle was bad enough...

Feel bad for you. :(

Chelle15 Apprentice

It says IC PEG 3350/Electrolyte SOLN KRE. They give you a little pack of flavoring, but is not so much helping! Ugh!

CarlaB Enthusiast

Just chug it and get it over with!! That's all you can do. <_<

Chelle15 Apprentice

Oh, I really thought it would not be that bad. I am trying to be brave, but ick! I can't mix with anything else can I?

CarlaB Enthusiast

Oh, drinking it is only half the fun!!! Just wait till it takes effect!! Sorry, I know it's supposed to be a support board ... I'm not good at this ;) Do like I did when my mom would make me eat sauerkraut or onions, hold your nose.

Chelle15 Apprentice

Thanks! I really can't believe what a baby I am being. I have started chasing it with coke. Think that's okay?

Are you allowed to have anything else after you drink it? If not, I would say it's not a good idea. Then again, it's supposed to give you d, I think the Coke will probably be history by tomorrow.

jknnej Collaborator

Umm, you should not have Coke because you're only allowed light colored liquids before a colonoscopy. the dark liquids stain your intestines!!

I only had to drink a 3 oz. bottle but it was every bit as nauseating!!!

You can chase it with ginger ale or sprite but no dark colors!!!

And no liquids at all after a certain point..for me it was midnight. it depends on what time your test is. if its early, like before 11, then no liquids at least 8 hours before.

Make sure you do it right or they will tell you to go home after all that with no test!!!!!!!!!!

Chelle15 Apprentice

Actually they said I can drink clear liquids up until 2 hours before the procedures. Hopefully it will be okay. I am just taking a sip of coke after I drink like 5 gulps of the horrible stuff.

Really?!?!?! They told me clear liquids up to 6:45 am. Test is at 8:45. Also, I asked specifically if I could have coke, they said yes, just no red stuff. Oh God! I don't want to have to do this again!

jknnej Collaborator

That's cool that you can have clear liquids up until 2 hours before. I am surprised, though. Any time someone goes under drugs like that they usually don't let you do that for 8 hours prior...it's dangerous.

Hmmmmm.....interesting.

I would still stay away from the Coke. I know you are not supposed to have dark liquids in any amount.

Today is the hardest part: the test is MUCH easier than the prep. You will get some wonderful drugs and sleep all day and will feel so much better! You can do it!

If they say you can do it then that's fine. I would listen to your doctor over anything else! Consider yourself lucky! I couldn't have Coke or drink for 8 hours before of anything, not even a sip of water.

As soon as I read the title of your topic, I knew what it was going to be about! :(

I had to drink the gallon of stuff, too. I used the orange flavoring that came with it, and wanted to gag every time I had to drink another glass.

I have no advice except to just get it down. By the last hour or two, I had to absolutely force myself. But I did it, and you will, too :)

Don't drink anymore Coke, though....

Chelle15 Apprentice

Yeah, that is what I thought about the drinking 8 hours before. Maybe if I have any tomorrow it will just be a little. To be on the safe side. I am going to start with the sierra mist instead of coke. THANK YOU for the support. Did they put you all the way out? I am wondering if I will be sedated or all the way out.

jknnej Collaborator

You will be sedated but you won't feel or remember ANYTHING so don't worry-there's no pain involved.

happygirl Collaborator

the drinking part sucks, i used ginger ale and that helped. i also drank it with a straw---so it wouldn't touch my tongue as much. keep it cold-lots of ice-that helped me. i hate warm liquids.

i had mine just a few weeks ago and it was fine. if i hadn't known that there had been someone rootin' up there, i never would have known ;)

jerseyangel Proficient

Yes--If they put you out, it's a piece of cake (gluten-free, of course). I had an endo the same day, and woke up feeling fine--not sore anywhere! ;)

Chelle15 Apprentice

Thank you so much for all of your continuing support on this board. It is so nice to have people who understand! :)

CarlaB Enthusiast

Like everyone has said, the procedure itself is easy. The prep and the IV are the hardest parts.

Lymetoo Contributor

Ugh. I did that last month. But I didn't have the biopsy, so didn't have to drink the JUG.

Hang in there. The test is a :)

CarlaB Enthusiast

It must have to do with the doc, I did have the biopsy, but no jug, just a bottle.

Chelle15 Apprentice

Thank Goodness! I am done. I did it. I still shudder just thinking about it. Anyways, just wanted to thank you for helping me through it!

CarlaB Enthusiast

Congratulations! The next few hours will be a lot of fun! Good luck with your tests tomorrow!

I had my colonoscopy almost 4 months ago, I was directed to mix it with a glass of sprite, it didn't taste that bad. By the way the procedure is soo easy, painless, you'll be so doped up you won't even remember it at all. The worse thing was the liquid diet, before hand. For my liquid diet I had lots of chicken broth! Big mistake, but hey who knew then right? Good luck to you! ~jules~

Who thinks the IV is hard? I didn't feel anything more than when they take blood....just a little pinch and that was it!

I do! But I got a huge, three inch bruise last time I had blood taken!! It's hard, too!!

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
