All of you well spoken, illustrious folks are a tough act to follow! I'm just trying to keep up :P

Those dog-isms are too funny! I'm thinking Angus is in agreement? :D

I am indeed well aware I'm out of my league here  ..or is it my mind??

The HELL u say!!

I was just tossing in a line from the great song I just heard is all. I'd hoped that putting that much space betw 'content' and "lyric" could be a fast'n'dirty substitute for a change in signature.

I guess I gotta take a brit's word for it on 'sod'. But I've run into so many awful errors on wiki that I wish you'd posted just about ANY other source! (Tho sodomite gets a passing mention, I'd thought it euphemistically vulgar beyond the impression on wiki)

Just for you Torm ( I know, the joke's wearing thin but it makes me LAUGH!!!!)

These are very accurate descriptions:

sod * Noun. 1. A contemptible or objectionable person.

2. A pitiable person. E.g."He's just had his car stolen and his wife has just run off with the milkman, the poor sod." This use is also be found with the expressions 'poor bastard' and 'poor bugger'.

3. A thing or action that is difficult or problematic. E.g. "We had a sod of a journey, getting stuck in a traffic jam at Birmingham for over 3 hours."

* Abb. of the word sodomite

.

sod about / around Verb. To waste time, to idle away time. E.g."My son needs to find himself a job, he's been sodding about playing computer games for the last 6 months and sleeping 15 hours a day."

sod-all Noun. Nothing. E.g."I've done sod-all this vacation, but I still feel like I need a holiday."

Adj. No. E.g."I've done sod-all work this vacation."

sodding Adv./Adj. Used as an intensifier. E.g."It's always that sodding idiot who wakes everyone up at a god awful hour."

sod it! Exclam. A exclamation of contempt or frustration. E.g."Sod-it! I'm giving up."

sod off Verb. Go away, leave. Usually used in the imperative. E.g."If he doesn't sod off in the next 2 minutes I'm going to hit him."

sod this for a game of soldiers ! Exclam. I give up! There's no way that I'm continuing with this. Or sod that for a game of soldiers. Cf. 'sod this for a lark'.

sod this for a lark ! Exclam. I give up! An intolerant, impatient exclamation. Cf. 'sod this for a game of soldiers'.

sod you ! Exclam. General exclamation of dismissal, rejection, hostility.

Tho sodomite gets a passing mention, I'd thought it euphemistically vulgar beyond the impression on wiki

Tee hee!

I just have to pop in to add something, that is rather funny to me.

So, I pop over here and read occassionally, and laugh (of course :)).

All this time, I've thought the thread was tickle me elmo.

I just realized today that it was tickle me elbow.

I guess I'm kind of slow sometimes ;)

Thanks for the laughter---we all need it!

I guess this is the side thread. We don't want to get too silly over on OMG afterall.

....*I* can actually visualise you doing the 'inverted' comma waggle with your index fingers whilst sounding exactly like a teacher :unsure:

Hehe that cracks me up far more than anyone here would expect.

For the vast majority of my life I didn't do much usin'uh them $2 words.

A friend, who was maybe the smartest person I've ever met (Yale Physics), and I would occasionally venture beyond bar vernacular - ok he did often, me occ. - and he had some comment that made me reply "hey w/ my usual crowd, if you're using a 4 syllable word, it better be m*the*f*c**r!! ".:lol:

So a comparison to a teacher cracks me up.

:)

Bugger!! double post.

So I'll take this opportunity to call all the sodding definitions grammatically, if not gomorrah-cly, correct.

Isn't "poor sot" in use for this also?

As for the rest, save the lark section, aren't they all examples of euphemistically replacing common vulgarities used in exactly those contexts?

<omg I'm sodding professor spice here now> (please don't make that stick. It's only there for a laugh. Saxy is much more fun)

Now, see - I love this!! You peeps are sounding more British everyday ;)

Beautifully executed Torm!! :D

Ahhh, no - actually a sot is a person who is very intoxicated by alcohol.

Suzeeee referred to my husband as a sot a couple of pages ago as he had been knocking back copious amounts of vino!!:lol:

 now THAT is funny! nothing to follow......you're overthinking. Tom uses too many big words, that's all. ;) He's forcing us to stretch our addled brains.....we're REALLY not used to that over here.:lol::lol:

All this time, I've thought the thread was tickle me elmo.

Omg I now have to tell a little story that should elicit some "awwwwwww"s from this estrogen-filled bunch.

There's an old girlfriend of mine who I'm still close with and she has two daughters I love dearly whom I've known all their lives.

When the elder Nicole was 2.5-3 or whenever a kid 1st discovers they *do* have at least one small bit of power over adults - namely tickling them - was the xmas that tickle-me-elmo was hot.

She took to it like celiacs to a gluten-free bakery's grand opening.

W/ me she quickly, and I mean VERY quickly, became so giddy in just the anticipation, that she'd be two notches from uncontrollable giggles on approach. And how am I supposed to NOT laugh w/ this alligator-armed finger-wigglin' mini-cutie w/ the rapid-fire giggle slowly stepping my way ???

I ask u that!

One time, I'm on the couch and she's acting stealthy tho in plain view. Still 2 steps away, we're already both giggling away, and her grandmother was there and SHE says "why do THEY need a TickleMeElmo, they've got a TickleMeTom?"

They STILL call me TickleTom and maybe always will. Hehehehehhe. I mean, I get *mail* addr that way!

It HAS made for some uncomfortable moments to get introduced as that - even once to their school vice principal!!!!

Can u imagine how their friends' parents & other adults 1st look at me when they HEAR THIS???!!! Gets quickly cleared up of course.

No matter who writes it, I'm not sure I'm comfortable w/ stories that have references to possible pedophilia. <blegh>

Might be editing time.

My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?
    • trents
Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified Gluten" in any given batch run. It just means there could be.
    • trents
I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.

Are Bobresmill gluten free oats ok for sensitive celiacs?
    • jenniber
thank you both for the insights. i agree, im going to back off on dairy and try sucraid. thanks for the tip about protein powder, i will look for whey protein powder/drinks!   i don’t understand why my doctor refused to order it either. so i’ve decided i’m not going to her again, and i’m going to get a second opinion with a GI recommended to me by someone with celiac. unfortunately my first appointment isn’t until February 17th. do you think i should go gluten free now or wait until after i meet with the new doctor? i’m torn about what i should do, i dont know if she is going to want to repeat the endoscopy, and i know ill have to be eating gluten to have a positive biopsy. i could always do the gluten challenge on the other hand if she does want to repeat the biopsy.    thanks again, i appreciate the support here. i’ve learned a lot from these boards. i dont know anyone in real life with celiac.
