Yes....mine has been "relaxed" for the past couple of years but I'm seriously thinking of stopping that and wearing it natural again.

AHA! That explains one-a-ya.

I was starting to wonder if women have a different definition of curly.

I say go natural!

<Ptaouehauomnhmn/Pthghaoeughaaaaaaaaaghmn re-salivates w/ more tri-tip chatter>

Is Alex honeymooning? Did we hear where? I should recall this ... ..

but what about our founder, Richard? Is he left-handed and curly-haired? I must pm him with this urgent query.............

Yes, we must find out King Ree-shard's stats, stat!

My sista! :D

Patti said sista

I once had my hair "relaxed", or tried to....emphasis on tried. It was the 80s and all my friends had long straight locks, one of them talked me into going in and getting it straightened. I didn't know they did such a thing, had my mom make an appt and went in. The hairdresser explained they put the perm solution in and brush it through until it's staight and then let it set a little bit. My hair is very thick too, so after about an hour I could see the frustration in the hairdresser's eyes as he was only 1/3 through  Long story short, he finished, I went home with noticeably smoother hair, washed it a few days later and it was back to curly

If my hair wasn't as thick, I would probably straighten it too Patti, but I understand tiring of it (the cost, the damage it does to the hair...) There is something freeing about going with what god gave ya

I'm something of an anomoly, and I fit no pat formula - - HATE maths, poker-straight hair, southpaw.

How about Alex? Yes, we don't know about our founding King, either...

They gotta be weirdo lefties......

:lol::lol:

Ummmm.......naturally?.......wellll......I have a confession.......

You threw a curveball in this theory :lol::lol:

Tom sorry about your off day :(

80's!!!! Why them was BIG HAIR DAYS. Everyone was getting perms so they could have BIG HAIR. What were you doing listening to your friends . . . you should have told them to all get perms!!!! Which leads to . . . OK, so maybe I was curly . . . for about a decade.:lol:

I was only in 6th or 7th grade at the time....11 or 12 yrs old......very early 80s, none of my friends were perming at the time, still straight long 70s-ish hairstyles going around.

I had the BIG HAIR thing down though, fo sho

:o WHAT? now she tells us......it's FAKE curly.......well this throws off our scientific "accuracy" quite a bit

AHEM!....I think the term "creative" is more appropo(sp?) ^_^

um, no, I think WEIRDO is the correct term in these parts

There is something freeing about going with what god gave ya

Reminds me of an epiphany I once had (have I told you guys this already? ), driving on highway 152 through Los Banos (Tom may know this most BORING, long, flat, endless heinous stretch of ugly road through flat, stinky dairy and farmlands - miles of literally nothing) and left alone w/ my dingo thoughts.......I glanced over into a car next to me and saw this lady, maybe in her sixties.....she had solid white hair, forming a frizzy, puffball halo 'round her head, 'twas perhaps two inches in length.

And - this thought flashed into my mind: at what point do we just give up, just let our hair revert to its hideous, willful, default state? At what point do we just give into our slovenly old age, quash our vanity.....quit the coloUr, the styling, the blow-drying, the products, all of it, and let it GO? Let it turn solid gray/white, spazz out, go its own way.........:lol:

nevah, I tell you, NEVAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :P :P <at least, not with MY hair  >

OMG - I'll never forget the reaalllllllly bad perm I got once - - a man (my friend's FIL) actually told me I looked like a witch.......

Can't wait until Nicola arises and puts in her tuppence about all of this

And where's Bev? Hope she's feeling better and not worse.....

There are still salons that use the reverse perm--the girl that does mine uses a relaxer designed for fine hair but it's still very strong and does cause some breakage. Plus, she's in NJ, so it's an hour drive--but I don't think I'd trust anyone else to do it.

I've been growing it out--and the problem is that the new growth is curly and the rest is straight.....kinda half and half at this point. :P I've been blowing it straight, but I'm just getting tired of the whole thing and with the humid weather about to hit.....

I just have to suck it up, go in and have it cut.....jeeze, you'd think I was looking at major surgery or sumphin'

Where is Nikki to explain this entertaining Britishism? Oh...she'd be in bed, as it is 2:25 am across the pond.

For some quaint reason particular to UK English, the shortened form of "mathematics" is pluralized - - "maths". Actually, it makes more sense that way, really..."mathematics" is plural....you never hear about studying one mathematic, now, do you?

This has been a good time for me to be busy and unable to post much today, as the subject of hair leaves me nothing interesting or humourous to contribute. Got boring, straight, brown hair. Did big-time perms until about ten years ago. Susie, that unforgettable visage that flashed before your eyes on the freeway is me in 2050.....

Actually....it might have been my dad.... <_<

I'd tell the story of why you should never drink and color your hair on the same night, but gotta run for the ferry.

but - I do know that my gluten reactions seem to be shorter than many pholks......however, my reactions are changing.......a year or more ago, if I"d eaten those chips, I'd have been on the toilet for half the day, w/ horrible contractions and D. Now - minor and very short-lived D.......but mental response....... ugh. :( Also ptahughgaghaughmmmmmn - you have reactions to more things than most........hopefully that will change over time. :)

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.
    • trents
@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
