I can't nap well either ... in fact, I take pills to sleep at night .... didn't want to, but doc said I would not get better from Lyme if I didn't sleep.

Phunniest thing I've heard all day

On a serious note, my wackls, I could use some prayers. Deeply. :( Got many things going on.........and I am trying not to plummet into inconsolable sadness............ which seems to be my default setting.

Thoughts and prayers to lift yer spirits, Soozle Woozle :D

Yes- we ALL are in this lunacy together

Ah Ryan--you're so right, it really does. This stuff can't help but get us down sometimes and the goofing around and comaraderie is a lifesaver (to me anyway)--thank gawd that we all aren't down at the same time..... :o

Amanda's OFF & I'm only on p1077!!

"Why do they call the crack between a lady's boobs Jesus, anyways?"

 cracks me up

<sounds ecuminically interlobular> (brb - gotta go look in a mirror while saying that )

Pataughmn--did you see the phaerie? :P

Hehehe no :( Didn't have much. St George just gets me derrrrrrrrUNK - or at least did the 1st time when I was aiming for phaerie-dom.

Ezra walked slowly up to me, and laid one hand gently on my arm. Wide eyes, awe in his voice. "Mom... you have... SUPER Vision?"

CompLETEly hee-larry-us!!!!

But why even have a microwave when it sounds like a good stare would do the trick? Oops no - that's heatvision.

Generic effexor release ramifications bah!!!

I'm not even bothering wif quotes as am rushed for time - looks like we ARE going to Carmel today. :) I am sooooooo excited - - our air quality is highly toxic and dangerous now - "stagnant air alerts" and such - all the fires, smog, etc. Just a blanket of poison hanging over us......people are strongly warned about doing any physical activity outside

I know ya didn't go today & I'm sure it'll be great to hit the coast, but don't count on the air being any better. Not much containment yet on the newer Big Sur fire.

But it so often is, you're right, Alex. I know that you will find those words. If they come hard-fought, they will be perfect...... :)

Thanks Emily, that makes me feel good about what I wrote. I had a candlelit bath and a couple glasses of wine, got in my comfiest pajamas and then just did it. I said what I wanted, tried hard not to be such a self-critic, and I feel good about it. I'm glad I was able to do it . . . sweet relief!

Alex, for someone who hasn't experienced parenthood yet, you make a whole lotta sense!

The best thing I ever did was to stop listening to all this holier-than-thou crapola and go with my gut when it came to my kids.

Thanks! I talk big now but I hope I can follow through when we really do have little ones running around the house. I hope I can do what you did and follow my gut and not get caught up in the whole "you must do x, y, z to be a good mother." <_< Thankfully I've got a good partner in crime with Ryan.

How about no note, and just a "This belonged to my mother, I know you collect them and since you've meant so much to me through the years, I wanted you to have it."

That's basically what I want to say but I just want to specifically thank her what she did for me during that time. I think I'm just now mature enough to realize how incredible she was and how tough it must have been on her. Most people shy away from grieving people (understandably so) but she took me in, stayed up with me night after night, and just generally held me together. I'm afraid if I don't say what I need to say now I never will and she deserves to hear it. But since I think I night get too shy or emotional to say it all, I want her to have the letter too.

Soooooslie!! Through all of your dialogue that I've been reading ever since I first came across you when I stumbled upon this site, I've heard a courageous, vibrant soul. You know, I worry about many people, but I always just know that my beautiful, strong friends will make out okay. You will be okay, Susie!! :):)

Em--really? Not much TV? Did you watch your dad?

Gad, I didn't need to. I spent all my dinners with his characters sitting at the head of the table, and I heard him practising all his scripts in his office.... . .it was a constant, live feed...... ..

Morning, all!

Amanda's in Orlando!! :)

Arrrrrggghhh. There has been a big, disapppointing communication gap between the baseball coach and us - - it would seem that the final, gold medal game is NEXT Saturday morning. We will be in the States, and Jack will miss it. :(

Jack's face when we discovered this: :o

Then this:

And now: :(:(:(:( (the four of us - - even his sister.....!)

Ah, well.....NEXT YEAR!

Um, perhaps a couple of you could head on up here next weekend, and sit in the bleachers cheering on our Ottawa South Wildcats. These kids absolutely come alive when parents and friends are whooping and cheering, and without me there, the decibel level plummets.

You could stay at our house with MIL. Do not place any personal items in the medicine cabinet... ..... .

So, off to hear Jack's screaming dialogue as he pedals ahead of me......

A Phunnie sent to me from me mum:

The 'Middle Wife' by an Anonymous 2nd grade teacher.

I've been teaching now for about fifteen years. I have two kids myself, but the best birth story I know is the one I saw in my own second grade classroom a few years back.

When I was a kid, I loved show-and-tell. So I always have a few sessions with my students. It helps them get over shyness and usually, show-and-tell is pretty tame. Kids bring in pet turtles, model airplanes, pictures of fish they catch, stuff like that. And I never, ever place any boundaries or limitations on them. If they want to lug it in to school and talk about it, they're welcome.

Well, one day this little girl, Erica, a very bright, very outgoing kid, takes her turn and waddles up to the front of the class with a pillow stuffed under her sweater.

She holds up a snapshot of an infant. 'This is Luke, my baby brother, and I'm going to tell you about his birthday.'

'First, Mom and Dad made him as a symbol of their love, and then Dad put a seed in my Mom's stomach, and Luke grew in there. He ate for nine months through an umbrella cord.'

She's standing there with her hands on the pillow, and I'm trying not to laugh and wishing I had my camcorder with me. The kids are watching her in amazement.

'Then, about two Saturdays ago, my Mom starts saying and going, 'Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh!' Erica puts a hand behind her back and groans. 'She walked around the house for, like an hour, 'Oh, oh, oh!' (Now this kid is doing a hysterical duck walk and groaning.) 'My Dad called the middle wife.. She delivers babies, but she doesn' t have a sign on the car like the Domino's man. They got my Mom to lie down in bed like this. ' (Then Erica lies down with her back against the wall.)

'And then, pop! My Mom had this bag of water she kept in there in case he got thirsty, and it just blew up and spilled all over the bed, like psshhheew!' (This kid has her legs spread with her little hands miming water flowing away. It was too much!)

'Then the middle wife starts saying 'push, push,' and 'breathe, breathe. They started counting, but never even got past ten. Then, all of a sudden, out comes my brother. He was covered in yucky stuff that they all said it was from Mom's play-center, so there must be a lot of toys inside there.'

Then Erica stood up, took a big theatrical bow and returned to her seat. I'm sure I applauded the loudest. Ever since then, when it's show-and-tell day, I bring my camcorder, just in case another 'Middle Wife' comes along.

And Another . . .

CANNIBAL RESTAURANT

A cannibal was walking through the jungle and came upon

a restaurant operated by a fellow cannibal. Feeling somewhat hungry,

he sat down and looked over the menu...

+ Tourist: $5.00

+ Broiled Missionary: $6.00

+ Fried Explorer: $7.00

+ Baked Democrat or Grilled Republican: $100.00

The cannibal called the waiter over and asked, 'Why such a price

difference for the politicians?'

The cook replied, 'Have you ever tried to clean one?

They're so full of sh!t, it takes all morning.'

OH YES!!! It's buried in here somewhere, but we are planning on overtaking OMG. It's projected for October 2010 (or sumtin' like that) . . . I think Tom was trying to move it up a little because he had a conflict for Oct 2010.

Carla, I have met very few people who are willing to live what they believe, rather than tell people what they (profess) to believe. Those that I have met have been from very different religions, but all of them have been people that are sincere, and deserving of respect in a way that could never be earned, only gifted.

You are quietly amazing, and hope that you are aware of that.

This article does not address migraines at all.  Yes, red wine and sulfites are often mentioned in connection with migraine triggers. With me, any kind of alcoholic beverage in very modest amounts will reliably produce a migraine. Nitrous oxide generators, which are vaso dialators, also will give me migraines reliably. So, I think most of my migraines are tied to fluctuations vascular tension and blood flow to the brain. That's why the sumatriptan works so well. It is a vaso constrictor.
    • knitty kitty
Excessive dietary tyrosine can cause problems.  Everything in moderation.   Sulfites can also trigger migraines. Sulfites are found in fermented, pickled and aged foods, like cheese.  Sulfites cause a high histamine release.  High histamine levels are found in migraine.  Following a low histamine diet like the low histamine Autoimmune Protocol diet, a Paleo diet, helps immensely.    Sulfites and other migraine trigger foods can cause changes in the gut microbiome.  These bad bacteria can increase the incidence of migraines, increasing histamine and inflammation leading to increased gut permeability (leaky gut), SIBO, and higher systemic inflammation.   A Ketogenic diet can reduce the incidence of migraine.  A Paleo diet like the AIP diet, that restricts carbohydrates (like from starchy vegetables) becomes a ketogenic diet.  This diet also changes the microbiome, eliminating the bad bacteria and SIBO that cause an increase in histamine, inflammation and migraine.  Fewer bad bacteria reduces inflammation, lowers migraine frequency, and improves leaky gut. Since I started following the low histamine ketogenic AIP paleo diet, I rarely get migraine.  Yes, I do eat carbs occasionally now, rice or potato, but still no migraines.  Feed your body right, feed your intestinal bacteria right, you'll feel better.  Good intestinal bacteria actually make your mental health better, too.  I had to decide to change my diet drastically in order to feel better all the time, not just to satisfy my taste buds.  I chose to eat so I would feel better all the time.  I do like dark chocolate (a migraine trigger), but now I can indulge occasionally without a migraine after.   Microbiota alterations are related to migraine food triggers and inflammatory markers in chronic migraine patients with medication overuse headache https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11546420/
    • trents
Then we would need to cut out all meat and fish as they are richer sources of tyrosine than nuts and cheese. Something else about certain tyrosine rich foods must be the actual culprit.
    • Scott Adams
I agree that KAN-101 looks promising, and hope the fast track is approved. From our article below: "KAN-101 shows promise as an immune tolerance therapy aiming to retrain the immune system, potentially allowing safe gluten exposure in the future, but more clinical data is needed to confirm long-term effects."
    • Scott Adams
Thank you so much for having the courage to share this incredibly vivid and personal experience; it's a powerful reminder of how physical ailments can disrupt our fundamental sense of self. What you're describing sounds less like a purely psychological body dysmorphia and more like a distinct neurological event, likely triggered by the immense physical stress and inflammation that uncontrolled celiac disease can inflict on the entire body, including the nervous system. It makes complete sense that the specific sensory input—the pressure points of your elbows on your knees—created a temporary, distorted body map in your brain, and the fact that it ceased once you adopted a gluten-free diet is a crucial detail. Your intuition to document this is absolutely right; it's not "crazy" but rather a significant anecdotal data point that underscores the mysterious and far-reaching ways gluten can affect individuals. Your theory about sensory triggers from the feet for others is also a thoughtful insight, and sharing this story could indeed be validating for others who have had similar, unexplainable sensory disturbances, helping them feel less alone in their journey.
