Can I request any particular phluids?

Hmmmm. Lisa, don't think so. Most onslaughts have involved toilet matter, blood, snot, vomit......and I believe in my case, motor oil on one occasion. So, there are many variables, each one more shocking than the next... ..... .

Hmmm . . . yes, I think Emily is right . . . not able to make special requests . . . but when applied to soon-to-be's, it's allllll good!! . . . or is it bad?? . . . :lol::lol:

Emily, that's a great pic of you and The Ripper.

OMG.....just pondering this.....But of course one cannot request a particular phluid!

Duuuuhhhhh......

Think I'd have a large order in for Dom Perignon, coming through the cracks in my ceiling, or up my sewage drain......:rolleyes:

Ha! If I could choose, I would not have chosen Peter to be the recipient of the phluids!  I say, send them to the ex!

"To Carla" has already been coined, but I guess it can have two meanings as the first never seems to be used around here .... any of you remember the 1/4 of a donut? Well, "to Carla" is to eat something in moderation ... like I was eating 1/4 of a donut per week. :D That word NEVER gets used.

Well, we're off to Miami in the morning and are not taking our computers! So, I'll see you late next week. :D I probably won't try to catch up.

Can you get engaged to one man, while you're awaiting your divorce from another.

Needless to say, it's been very interesting around here. Got one of those boomerang kids.

So what do you think?

I would think it would be fine. Engagement is more of a social construct than an legal one, I think. I'm sorry for the difficult situation your daughter is going through. I'm sure she's grateful to have the soft landing of home to boomerang back to during this hard time. And I have to second what Patti mentioned -- I have a great aunt who went through a very similar situation and I attended the 50th anniversary of her second marriage just a couple of years ago. I'm sending thoughts of strength for her and you and your family. :)

So . . . we were at the party this afternoon/evening and I did it! :D :D I was able to get a private moment with her and explained why I wanted her to have this special gift and my intense gratitude to her and I didn't freeze up or stutter or cry (well maybe a few tears but no unsightly sobbing ;) ). There was much hugging and many tears on her part. She seemed very touched and her happiness made all of the anxiety and agonizing worth it. Thanks everyone for being my sounding board and givers-of-advice :). I tend to over think things (if that wasn't already obvious! )

Hello Sillies,

Got a question here. Need your collective wisdom.

Some of you may remember the wedding, two years ago, for my daughter. Yeah, well.....not such a good idea. AND, I KNEW THAT AT THE TIME!!!!! <_<

Can you get engaged to one man, while you're awaiting your divorce from another.

Needless to say, it's been very interesting around here. Got one of those boomerang kids.

So what do you think?

(and seriously working toward my 5,000 post - Patti what happens - I'm afraid)

You can get engaged, but in some places, the divorce has to be final for a certain amount of time before you can get married again (here it's a year) once the divorce is final.

Hope that helps.

Good Sunday morning, Sillies!

Many of us are away.....Susie's in Carmel, Amanda and Carla in FL. Can't wait until we leave....just a few days, now. PeOter and Bev!! PLEASE say you can attend the Psummit July 10th! :):)

Well, "to Carla" is to eat something in moderation ... like I was eating 1/4 of a donut per week. :D That word NEVER gets used.

Gawd, a word never used in MY everyday life, 'tis true....... <_<

So . . . we were at the party this afternoon/evening and I did it!

Trip Update!!!!

Greetings From FL Sillies!!!!!

I had to purchase the wireless access for the room today so we can do our online airline check-in later today.

Things are great. We got into our hotel very late Friday night. Our flight was on time, but the flight attendants were coming from a different flight and that flight was not on time, so we didn

Oh Alex!! I'm so glad to hear it :D I knew she'd be touched, and I'm happy you didn't get too weepy :)

Hello all the way to Florida, Amanda!!!!!!!! :D:D

Gads, that storm sounded awful--you poor thing! Yep--we had a Publix when we lived in Georgia--they were very nice, but nothing like Wegmans.

Have a great day and safe trip home :)

Sillies--too bad you're not here right now.....I'm making home phries with onion and it smells devine  We got up and moving earlier and cleaned the porches and did some weeding and cleaning of the pond. The phish actually come up to us now whilst Mark pulls out the string algea. :P

They give us a look like--"what in hell are you doing with that?"

Mornin' Sillies!

Alex - YaY!! I'm sure this figurine has now become this lady's favoUrite in her collection with so much meaning and thoughtfulness behind the gift.

Amanda - YIKES!!! Glad you're both safe and sound.

Confession . . . :ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:

I am the world's worst neighbor. My neighbor asked me on Friday to let her dogs out at 10 & 2 as no one would be home to do it and their youngest dog (a couple of years old) has potty issues . . . I TOTALLY SPACED IT!!!! OMGAWD!!!!! What do I do?? She has a college student staying at the house now till they get back from vacation so whatever happened, the college student had to deal with. I'm waiting until a more likely hour that their house-sitter will actually be up and then I think I'll just go give her some money and buy off my guilt!!! I told my husband what I did and his response? . . . not, Oh I'm sure it won't be too bad . . . it was Yeah, you are the world's worst neighbor!

Don't sweat it too much, Gian-gnit.....really, maybe it won't be too bad. Hey--you're not a bad neighbor, you just phorgot......

I'm sure the college student can use the money, so everyone's good :D

What an adventure, Amanda! SO glad you are safe. That must have been truly frightening. Don't be embarrassed about those tears - - they are an instinctive, natural part of the fear response.

That pool sounds AMAZING! I have a real penchant for big, exciting, meandering pools with neat things in them. I would be in heaven in this place. And Jack! Don't get me started...... :)

Gads, that storm sounded awful--you poor thing! Yep--we had a Publix when we lived in Georgia--they were very nice, but nothing like Wegmans.

Patti, I will PM you today or tomorrow about our trip, but quickly, do you know if there is a Weggies in the area of Philly that I'll be? Hope so......

The phish actually come up to us now whilst Mark pulls out the string algea. :P

Hey! Patti, they're looking at you funny because that is TEL'S job, remember?

Evening all!!

Dear GOD! -I have had the most hellascious afternoon <_<

If I EVER suggest going to the IKEA sale again please shoot me or sumfink

...I dunno if your Ikea's work like ours but you amble round looking (taking hrs..t'is like a rats maze)....find what you like

.....WRITE it down on a bit o' paper (weird Swedish names like 'FRARKE', measurements, coloUr)

... struggle through the lighting, bedroom, bathroom, textile depts

.....go downstairs and TRY TO FIND your flat pack furniture which is spread over umm. 60 AISLES

.....n.b half is out of stock. .........queue for 20 mins......hot, sweaty...& feet are killin' me

This is truly what they make YOU DO IN HELL (but with small children)

I was wondering why all these people brought their kids wif 'em to Ikea.....then I realised I had 2 of mine wiv' me

The highlight of the trip however was that we managed to buy a frozen gluten-free tarte (pie) in their small food dept -gotta luv the Scandinavians for always doing gluten-free options -(BTW - they also do fantastic meatballs in their restaurant :P )

....but Tel squashed me finger whilst loading a particulary cumbersome flat packed chest of drawers

This all started 'cos someone gave us some really nice fully lined curtains which I thought would go nice in Al's bedroom....BUT I needed to get him a new blind......couldn't bear the thought of a nicely dressed window and all that old furniture & paintwork

So, we've gotta get the paint now (choosing coloUr is totally my domain).....but listen to this...what'cha think???????

.....chocalate brown on the bottom of the walls then a dado rail (crisp white) then a lime green coloUr for the top part of the walls.......skirting boards base boards, dado, coving & ceiling in white

Oh dear gaaawd......it's frazzled ME BRAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

....and OMG!!!!!!....I have to go BACK (scared... ...hold me...) as the blind is the WRONG bloomin' size  (Tel refused to EVER go back )

Got one of those boomerang kids.

Whaaaat!!?????? :o ...............they come back???????

Ghan-nitt ....*snigger*....what's a bit o' dog poo & wee amongst friends neighboUrs????? ;)

Amanda!!!!!!!!.........GADS!!!!!!!.....scary storm!!!!!!!!......glad you're both safe! :)

Aww Alex....so glad the figurine was gladly received :D

Nikki!! IKEA HAS GLUTEN-FREE FOOD??! Gad, this makes up for the hellacious layout of the stores, the ridiculous, forgettable, BJORGN and VOKKGS design names.....I have refused to play the rat-in-maze shopping experience that is Ikea ever again, but if they gots gluten-free TARTS......!!

Like yer lime green/choc. brown with mouldings. This sounds quite properly masculine......

psawyer Proficient

Ah, IKEA.

They intentionally design their stores as one long aisle so you absolutely must walk past every single @#%@$%@# thing in the entire store. Every single time.

And, when you finally get to the end of the labyrinth, you learn that "ikea" is a Swedish word which means "out of stock."

I haven't been inside in years, but we drive past the North York store several times a week. It is right next the 401 highway, which is one of our commute routes.

Amanda, what a phrightening experience. I'm glad to hear you are both fine.

Who uses lemon zest, or any other citrus zest? (And does the culinary noun predate the adjective zesty?)

Nyet. Nobody that I'm leaving behind has the balls to do ANYTHING irrationally......

Bah!

So Em, you're going entirely to previously-unvisited places?? NYC, Silladelphia .....elsewhere?

I've never been to either. The northeast is a HUGE hole in my map of states visited.

I think that should be up to the person who's house you're living in ;)

<BAM!> good call Jess!

"To Carla" has already been coined, but I guess it can have two meanings as the first never seems to be used around here .... any of you remember the 1/4 of a donut? Well, "to Carla" is to eat something in moderation ...

MODERATION!!? That's an understatement if I've ever heard one. Limiting oneself to a small portion like that and putting it away for a week is madness!!

The rest of the donut is RIGHT THERE!! It's not like another bite would require opening a new package or getting another whatever from wherever.

NOOOOOOOOObody can Carla like Carla!! :D

Have an awesome Miami time!!! <anyone do gluten-free conch fritters?>

Alex - well done w/ the gift. ;) Such a sweet story. :)

Amanda - lighthouse trip sounds cool but wow what a storm!

GAH!! :o IKEA!! (went once & I'm not goin' back!!) <and you can't make me!> :P

My money's on Germany (the motherland ...German roots yer know ;) )

I hope it's not much money.

I'm kinda watching, but of course missed the sole goal. (Yay for instant replay!)

my sillies,

How dearly I love you and wanted to report this news to you. I just posted the very tragic news of the plane crash that took my boyfriend's brother and SIL's lives. :( (Craig and Michelle.)

I wanted you all to know, and those who pray, we really, really need prayers for peace, comfort, and no small amount of grace during this time.

Heading up in a few minutes to drive David to be with his family.........don't know when I'll be back.

Sad face doesn't remotely convey what this is like.

:(

Love you all.........I may be back tomorrow, it may be a few days, don't know.

(And does the culinary noun predate the adjective zesty?)

Don't use citrus zest, but I'm fairly certain that the word does predate the adjective "zesty"....most adjectives develop from their mother-nouns...... B)

So Em, you're going entirely to previously-unvisited places?? NYC, Silladelphia .....elsewhere?

I've never been to either. The northeast is a HUGE hole in my map of states visited.

I wish we had time to keep going south, into Washington DC, then maybe swing east and get into Maine for a bit. Just not enough time.....we've only got ten days, and we've planned for six of them in NYC. You need AT LEAST that, I am certain, for this incredible city. :):)

Do you think I'll be mugged?<_<

I can look right ferocious, if need be. I'm not big.....but my voice can stop a train.

Think I'll be okay. <_<

Silvery ball looks too weird to me.

Yes, me, too!

And Ptaoughmghmn, you are suddenly right, at least in my experience. 90 continuous minutes is a bit much for a field so big....(it was you, was it not, who claimed this? )...... .. ..

I was hoping for Spain. :)

Oh, Susie......

I am so very sorry.

Like Jess, I don't pray very well either.....but I am praying for you, David and your families.

I wish I was closer to you geographically!!!!

I would come, in a second. :(:(:(:(:(

jerseyangel Proficient

I want to reply to some stuff later, but what a sad day in Sillyville today with the tragic news of David's brother and sister in law :(

This is precisely when it's most frustrating to all live so far away from each other--my impulse is to go and be with her and help in any way I can, and I just can't.

I feel close to you guys, no less so than a friend that I see in person. I feel just terrible.

nikki-uk Enthusiast

Poor Susie, Kissey and family

I hope she knows we all deeply care about her and know that we are thinking of her - and yeah....wish I were closer.....

Darn210 Enthusiast

Susie - I wish there was something more I could do.

Hugs & Prayers

tom Contributor

Horrendous.

Brings back my little brother's plane crash death in '96 & I was close to sobbing a few min ago. :(

While it feels jackass-ian to tell David "I know what it's like", that's unfortunately true. :( :(

<tom keeps writing sentences then deleting them>

Tho very tempting, I think it'd be wrong to halt all general discourse, wouldn't it?

Don't use citrus zest, but I'm fairly certain that the word does predate the adjective "zesty"....most adjectives develop from their mother-nouns...... B)

That's why I specified culinary <gotcha poohbah!!>, guessing that the 'zest for life' type noun came first.

:( ok, maybe I was wrong . ...it doesn't yet feel right to banter on trivial bs w/ tragedy in our midst. :(

I just hope David can deal w/ it better than I did in '96.

Blood tests for thiamine are unreliable.  The nutrients from your food get absorbed into the bloodstream and travel around the body.  So, a steak dinner can falsely raise thiamine blood levels in the following days.  Besides, thiamine is utilized inside cells where stores of thiamine are impossible to measure. A better test to ask for is the Erythrocyte Transketolace Activity test.  But even that test has been questioned as to accuracy.  It is expensive and takes time to do.   Because of the discrepancies with thiamine tests and urgency with correcting thiamine deficiency, the World Health Organization recommends giving thiamine for several weeks and looking for health improvement.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.   Many doctors are not given sufficient education in nutrition and deficiency symptoms, and may not be familiar with how often they occur in Celiac disease.  B12 and Vitamin D can be stored for as long as a year in the liver, so not having deficiencies in these two vitamins is not a good indicator of the status of the other seven water soluble B vitamins.  It is possible to have deficiency symptoms BEFORE there's changes in the blood levels.   Ask your doctor about Benfotiamine, a form of thiamine that is better absorbed than Thiamine Mononitrate.  Thiamine Mononitrate is used in many vitamins because it is shelf-stable, a form of thiamine that won't break down sitting around on a store shelf.  This form is difficult for the body to turn into a usable form.  Only thirty percent is absorbed in the intestine, and less is actually used.   Thiamine interacts with all of the other B vitamins, so they should all be supplemented together.  Magnesium is needed to make life sustaining enzymes with thiamine, so a magnesium supplement should be added if magnesium levels are low.   Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  There's no harm in trying.
    • lizzie42
Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
    • Scott Adams
That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!
