After 14 hrs at 70 mph from Scotland (km??? what in hell?? ) they had to fetch the winch to get me out

Okay, so it is time for some maths. Rounding to integers:

120 kmh = 74 mph

70 mph = 113 kmh

So Canucks drive a bit faster than Brits. :o Of course, we also drive on the correct right side of the road.

Amanda, I'm thinking about you and your dad. Hope he is doing ok, check in when you can.

Susie, your posts last night about Emoticongate cracked me up!!!!!! Me thinks someone was pheeling rather Manchester-ish about the situation!!!!

Other sillies met this weekend. See avatar.

Awwwwww Laura  How sweet! How is Sammy doing?

Love all the new avatars, and what a great photo of WardGirl (and kitteh)!!!! So nice to put a face to the name of peter's wonderful other half Jacquie!!!

OH! Soooozie.......speaking of attractive men: I kept looking at my brother up on the stage at the dance last night, watching him pound away on the drums, singing out electrifying harmonies, throwing his drumsticks around, catching them behind his back, etc., and thinking, "How can we get him together with Psilly Psooozie?"

SOMEDAY!!

What a sight to behold, the drumstick stylings of Emily's brother whilst surrounded by his family in tribal dress

And yes, what PHUN a Silly Set-Up, a Silly match made in Silly heaven would be!!

Been in a funk lately......really do think it is me vitamins....or lack thereof (been forgetting to take them, recently)

Oh Lisa, we must get you de-funked!!

Radio made me think of one of y'all:

Back in the back

Of a cadillac

Number one with a bullet I'm a power pack

<youknowwhoyouare>

Oooh! Oooh! I know this one.....it's the Beeve!!!!!

Tom, yer whole post

Do you think it is too late to contact either (or both) of the candidates with our portentous forum issue?

It is possible that this has NOT come to your attention; therefore, in brief, a sudden and enormous change has occurred in the large American voting area of Psillyville. In fact, this realm is international, which makes it all the more vital to put things right, for the eyes of Canada and Great Britain are turned to the U.S. and need reassurance that they will be respected and supported under new leadership.

Emoticons have been suddenly restricted, without forewarning or explanation. Many citizens rely on these characters for their day-to-day communication, and find themselves deeply handicapped, often unable to function socially..... . . .

If there's time, let's send this off. One of them is bound to listen. If ANYONE can fix this emergency, it's the President of the United States.

BAH HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well pholks, maybe it was Janet and her revival of the phrase "cool beans" that planted a little seed in me wee brain, but I went crazy and had beans and peanuts. I made the most delish enchiladas (containing refried pinto beans) and then peanut butter cookies......twas a Legume-O-Rama this weekend and I am paying for it, BIG TIME.

But I do have to say I enjoyed every last bite (the enchiladas were PHAB!!)

No word as yet from our Amanda. . . . ...hope she checks in soon. I do hate when one of us is living through a bad situation, and we have no way of knowing how they are. . . ... :(

Well!!!! It has happened!! To me, no less. . . . . I am currently sitting here, in a state of fluxing, conflicting emotion - - SO much is happening mentally, here, and I have the new, dreaded knowledge that I can no longer be supported through emoticon usage while I converse here in Psillyville.

I am experiencing: waves of relief and happiness :D:) (eye appointment was superb - - non-diabetic eye results!), some self-satisfied contentment B) , real affection for my specialist, as we have a long history with one another  , a helping of unease and confusion due to the vision-altering nature of the many prescription drops  , anger at the parking ticket <_< , great humour at the sight of my eye makeup when i arrived home (Bah! Tammy Faye-city) . .. . .

See?! I'm already at EIGHT emoticons, and I'm feeling so much more than this. . . . . ...

I will have to attempt to curtail all activities during the day that may evoke more than one emotion.

Update

My dad had his heart cath this morning- he has two blockages and a bunch of other problems. He needs open heart surgery/bypass ASAP. So he had wanted to go to Hershey to my hospital to have any procedures done and now he is saying well maybe I will stay here....listening to his family dr who has not a damn clue of what is going on. I am trying to get it through his head that he needs to be at a hospital where the advancements are there and they are on the cutting edge. My hospital is well known in the cardiac department. So now I am stuck in limbo at my moms not sure whether to go home or stay here.....all up in the air and so much needs to be decided on. I know if the surgery takes place here he doesn't have a good of a chance as he would having it done at a larger hospital. So now I am waiting....and sadly I feel as if my life has stopped....there is no forward and no backward......

thanks for all your thoughts and prayers.

Hugs Amanda.

I've been where you are with my mom (twice). Be strong with your parents, and come here to whimper.

Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
    • Scott Adams
That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!
    • knitty kitty
@lizzie42, You're being a good mom, seeking answers for your son.  Cheers! Subclinical thiamine deficiency commonly occurs with anemia.  An outright Thiamine deficiency can be precipitated by the consumption of a high carbohydrate meal.   Symptoms of Thiamine deficiency include feeling shakey or wobbly in the legs, muscle weakness or cramps, as well as aggression and irritability, confusion, mood swings and behavior changes.  Thiamine is essential to the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine which keep us calm and rational.   @Jsingh, histamine intolerance is also a symptom of Thiamine deficiency.  Thiamine is needed to prevent mast cells from releasing histamine at the slightest provocation as is seen in histamine intolerance.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins and Vitamin C are needed to clear histamine from the body.  Without sufficient thiamine and other B vitamins to clear it, the histamine builds up.  High histamine levels can change behavior, too.  High histamine levels are found in the brains of patients with schizophrenia.  Thiamine deficiency can also cause extreme hunger or conversely anorexia.   High carbohydrate meals can precipitate thiamine deficiency because additional thiamine is required to process carbohydrates for the body to use as fuel.  The more carbohydrates one eats daily, the more one needs additional thiamine above the RDA.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses. Keep in mind that gluten-free processed foods like cookies and such are not required to be fortified and enriched with vitamins and minerals like their gluten containing counterparts are.  Limit processed gluten-free foods.  They are often full of empty calories and unhealthy saturated fats and additives, and are high in histamine or histamine release triggers.  It's time you bought your own vitamins to supplement what is not being absorbed due to malabsorption of Celiac disease.  Benfotiamine is a form of Thiamine that has been shown to improve intestinal health as well as brain function. Do talk to your doctors and dieticians about supplementing with the essential vitamins and minerals while your children are growing up gluten free.  Serve nutritionally dense foods.  Meats and liver are great sources of B vitamins and minerals. Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!
