I made a simple apple crisp for dessert tonight--we're having it when DWTS is on later. I had a bunch of apples that had seen better days--sliced them up topped wif brown sugar, Smart Balance and brown rice flour and baked. <droolphace>

Tomorrow, I'm making a spice cake wif buttercream frosting, 5 bean salad (shudder.....legumes, but me son loves it), cranberry-orange relish and my corn/red pepper/bacon side dish. I'm bringing all that to me son's on Thursday.

Sounds so delicious Patti :yummyformytummyface:

Julie, speaking of dessert (because we usually are  )--I decided on the spice cake over the trifle since we have an hour's drive on Thursday. I am going to make it for here, though, closer to Christmas. It looks so good.....you must let me know how everyone liked it B)

We do like talking about dessert, don't we?!?!? Sorry Curly Lisa!!!!

Yer spice cake sounds so good, it's right up there with the trifle :D I'll let you know how it goes, so far it's going well. I baked the Gingerbreads, so easy with the Gluten Free Pantry mixes. I also bought Kozy Shack already made up puddings (natch gluten-free ;) ) so that will also simplify the process. You have to make it the day ahead, which I love anything that can be made ahead, a big time saver.

Me too :D

I wish the Canadian and U.S.'s Thanksgivings were at the same time

WHAT? bobbleheads and meow-ing are naughty things in Leesah's world? *snort* I'm afraid I"m goign to have to ask you to elaborate on this....

Meant to ask about this meself . . .. . ..I've never heard of "bobblehead" meaning anything but....well....a bobblehead. Those silly figurines on my daughter's shelf - - hockey players, mostly.

Leeeesa, what is the naughty meaning? We all have our suspicions, of course. Tell us this - - is it a word that you provided instructions for making in ASL?

:lol::lol::lol:

Your suspicions are probably correct.

Hmmmmmm.....my signs were for nice, proper biological terms :D

I had discussed meow before.....refers to a term used for a woman's body part.......another word for kitty.........starts with a *P*

Bobblehead..............well..........

First let's look at another middle school term..........gobble-gobble..........verb......

If you are performing this activity.......you could be considered a bobblehead..............don't think there's another word used to describe this person <_< ........ . . . . . ..

........oh, I know...........MONICA LEWINSKY!!!!!

So phunnee. . . ...Here I was, reading Jess's recipe, going along thinking, "GREAT!! Finally, a trick to know how a turkey's done! Must be when the popcorn's all popped!"

And I was thinking..........why would you be using Pepperidge Farm stuffing?

CONGRATS AMANDA!!!!!.........how exciting!

I like cranberry relish.......cold. Didn't know people ate it hot. Kroger's Private Selection has an awesome one called Cranberry Celebration.......don't know if it's gluten-free, but definitely not sugar free :(

curlyfries Contributor
We do like talking about dessert, don't we?!?!? Sorry Curly Lisa!!!!

It's OK......really....... <snif>

This is my first Thanksgiving gluten-free, dairy free, sugar free.......and I have to fix it.

I hate cooking, but I guess it's better than the alternative.......at least there will be some things I can eat.

I will still fix my phabulous praline sweet potato casserole and a dessert..........I just won't get to eat them.

But on the bright side......I have lost another 5 pounds.....a total of 30 to date! :D ........this girl is smokin! ;)

:lol::lol: Ahhhhhh......bobblehead. Makes perfect sense. . . . ...got quite the visual, wif yer help . . . . ... .

Susie, we're gonna have Pumpkin Pie Cake . . . pumpking pie on the bottom (no crust) and a struessaly type topping made wif a cake mix (NOT made into cake/cakebatter). I had it last week at school (not gluten free) and thought it should be able to convert nicely wif a Pamela's cake mix instead of a regular cake mix. I'll post it if you want.

I MUCH prefer a cranberry relish . . . cold . . . but my (extended) family would only turn their noses up at it (except for me mum . . . she's game for anything). They eat the canberry.

I see many psillies are here, is this Thanksgiving Task Avoidance? I know it's House-Cleaning/Cooking Avoidance for me......

Arnie brought Jooolie a wee mouse!

I wonder if a large dog could carry a Twa?

Well, I don't see why a large dog could NOT carry a Twa, Nik, what say you? Since you have direct experience with these peoples, who live in yer home and dance

And Jules......phorgot to tell you now proud I am of Arnie for bringing you the wee mouse

Canuck Lumberjack Tarts! Throw some pureed pumpkin in for a Thanksgiving theme!

Um, please to tell, what ARE the Lumberjack Tarts? I know we've talked about them bephore but.......I forgot?

My 2 cents on the cranberry......canberry :P discussion--we make homemade cranberry orange relish by processing raw cranberries, oranges and sugar in the food processor, and letting it chill for at least 24 hours. Mark's mom's recipe and a family tradition.

this is exactly what me mum makes, Padt! Served cold, however.....

I am also thinking of something no bake, what about Pumpkin Mouse Sooze?

Here is an example:

Open Original Shared Link

JULES!!!!!!!!!! You have SAVED ME!!!!!!!!!!!! this is EXACTLY what I was thinking of........went looking and looking for the canned pumpkin today, could not find it anywhere - what in hell? decided to go back tomorrow with recipe in hand......makes more sense!!!!!!!! I was THINKING OF A PUMPKIN-MOUSSE-Y THING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and BTW, don't you all love how Jules and everyone has been cooking/planning for days and.....I"m just now starting to ponder it? I could not be less interested in the whole cooking/meal planning process...........just FURIOUS about it, in fact

They proceeded to do a dance  .. stamping their feet, waggling their tongues chanting 'Twa, twa!'

Most unsettling.....

It is SO wonderful that Thanksgiving is such a big holiday for you Yanks. ... :) .. .bigger than Christmas, isn't it? Not so much fanfare up here . .. . we make turkeys or hams, sit at dinner, go to bed early - - very Canadian, I must say. . ......

hmm....bigger than Christmas? Well, in the sense that at Thanksgiving, you are pretty much gah-raun-teed a four-day weekend, and the exact same meal every year (which is generally quite good, when all the right components are there, and they always are, and unless your brother overcooks the turkey, which he usually does  ) unLESS you're in retail, and then your life sucks (been there, done that)

I suppose that means scuba diving is out?

Thanksgiving here is about families being together and, like Souczie said, the exact same meal every year.... .. . . . . .. ...unless you have a mother-in-law who likes to experiment ...........(she'll be out of town this year :P )

I think yer on the right track here, Suze.

Thanksgiving bigger than Christmas??? Not sure about that . . . but I know I enjoy it more. Usually (not this year) get to see a lot of family without the pressure of getting all the "right" gifts.

Lisa Mentor

Everyone has such wonderful tradition, with the same meal year after year!

The girls will be gone to their beau's parents, but I get them for Christmas. :D I think I'll stuff the turkey with popcorn and sit back and watch.

OMG!!!!!

Sam Hill is a cross-dresser!!!!!!

Don't tell me he's going to be a bridesmaid?!?!????

He is not just a psychiatrist.  He is also a neuroscientist.  And yes, I have already read those studies.   I agree with benfotiamine.  This is short term while glutened/inflammation occurs.  As I had already mentioned, these symptoms no longer exist when this phase passes.  And yes, I know that celiac is a disease of malnutrition.  We are working with a naturopath.

Please do more research before you settle on nicotine. Dr. Paul New house is a psychiatrist.  His latest study involves the effect of nicotine patches on Late Life Depression which has reached no long term conclusions about the benefits.   Effects of open-label transdermal nicotine antidepressant augmentation on affective symptoms and executive function in late-life depression https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39009312/   I'm approaching the subject from the Microbiologist's point of view which shows nicotine blocks Thiamine B1 uptake and usage:   Chronic Nicotine Exposure In Vivo and In Vitro Inhibits Vitamin B1 (Thiamin) Uptake by Pancreatic Acinar Cells https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26633299/   While supplementation with thiamine in the form Benfotiamine can protect from damage done by  nicotine: Benfotiamine attenuates nicotine and uric acid-induced vascular endothelial dysfunction in the rat https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18951979/   I suggest you study the beneficial effects of Thiamine (Benfotiamine and TTFD) on the body and mental health done by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale and Dr. Chandler Marrs.  Dr. Lonsdale had studied thiamine over fifty years.   Hiding in Plain Sight: Modern Thiamine Deficiency https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8533683/ I suggest you read their book Thiamine Deficiency Disease, Dysautonomia, and High Calorie Malnutrition.     Celiac Disease is a disease of malabsorption causing malnutrition.  Thiamine and benfotiamine: Focus on their therapeutic potential https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10682628/

Thanks for your response.  Everything you mentioned he is and has been doing.  Tobacco is not the same as nicotine.  Nicotine, in the form of a patch, does not cause gastrointestinal irritation.  Smoking does. He is not smoking.  Please do your research before stating false information. Dr. Paul Newhouse has been doing research on nicotine the last 40 years at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Im so frustrated and still getting the run around trying to reprove my celiac disease which my past primary ignored for 25 years.I understand that theres a ray of medical that doctors are limited too but not listening and telling the patient ( me) that im not as sensitive as I think and NOT celiac!Correction Mr white coat its not what I think but for cause and affect and past test that are not sticking in my medical records.I get sick violently with foods consumed, not eating the foods will show Im fabulous. After many blood draws and going through doctors I have the HLA- DQ2 positive which I read in a study that Iran conducted that the severity in celiac is in that gene.Im glutenfree and dealing with related issues which core issue of celiac isn't addressed. My skin, right eye, left leg diagestive issues affected. I have high blood pressure because im in pain.Im waisting my time on trying to reprove that Im celiac which is not a disease I want, but unfortunately have. It  has taken over my life personally and professionally. How do I stop getting medically gaslight and get the help needed to bounce back if I ever do bounce back to normal? I thought I was in good care with " celiac specialist " but in her eyes Im good.Im NOT.Sibo positive, IBS, Chronic Fatigue just to name a few and its all related to what I like to call a ghost disease ( celiac) since doctors don't seem to take it seriously.
    • trents
@Martha Mitchell, your reaction to the lens implant with gluten sounds like it could be an allergic reaction rather than a celiac reaction. It is possible for a celiac to be also allergic to gluten as it is a protein component in wheat, barley and rye.
