Hi, Ashley! Hmmmm. . .. Picasso. I keep trying to appreciate his reputed genius. More difficult for me than everyone else, it would seem. I do LOVE his early self-portraits... . . . . :):)

Mine are pretty typical, but my dad has ALWAYS sneezed like this: "eee-eee-eee-ee-eee.....cho-oo-oo-oo-oo"

Mygawd. That is exactly what the Great Canadian Goose's mating call sounds like.

Someone I knew sounded like a mouse. Who was that?? Maybe she moved to Ottawa!!

Yes, it may have been her. It was incredible. I was going to mention to her how ludicrous a sneeze it was.... . . . .but refrained. I needed to ponder it further, however, so of course it gets mentioned here.

I never could understand why some people feel they need to use their vocal chords to sneeze.

Me neither....or when they barph. That is the worst. A loud, bellowing heave.

C'mon....that is simply not needed. The horrid matter will come up just fine without a great voice behind it all....

Come to think of it, that is how I could have addressed this woman today....."So, do you vomit in such an insipid way, as well?"

my edumatication has been cancelled tommorrow :]

Ashley, good to see you back in the friendly place we call psillyville. :)

Up here, snow is something we grumble about but expect.

Nikerker's got huge-thumbed and -tooled men surrounding her!

Perhaps one of them will sneeze - - Nik, if it is an insipid li'l kitten sneeze, take note of his thumb size. . .. .actually, more so if it is a huge, window-rattling explosion... .... . ..I'm suspecting there may be a direct correlation.

I DO wanna see Jess sneezing!

Enjoy the day off tomorrow, Ash. For us, snow or no snow, work goes on.

Yup. the insane Canadian way... . . . . here in Ottawa 'tis bedlam, as we had close to 40 cm of snow the last three days, AND there is a transit strike happening. . . . ...good timing for Will to be away and not trying to battle his way downtown every rush hour. . . . ...

Um, sugar addiction. . .. ...I am certain it is a substance that can become physically addictive, absolutely, as I am sure gluten can be, too.. . . . . ..

Finally I can get on!!

My computer is really acting up, can't get the sugar link to work either. What did it say about sugar?? I am so curious!! Should I stop eating it again? I lasted about 4 months or so, then Thanksgiving happened and have been having the sweet stuff ever since  ...but I think I could do it again, it actually wasn't that hard after a few weeks and I found myself not wanting it and craving fruit instead.

Hi Ashley! I saw that about the snow too on the news. Peter is right, for us we could have several feet and they bring in the plows for life to go on as usual. That stunk for us as kids, school was rearely cancelled

LOLOLOL on the sneezing, but a very fascinating issue indeed! Must ponder it further, oh and I just sneezed not too long ago, but I did not take note of the sound or if my voacal chords were invovled. What I do know is my sneezes seem to be varied, each one has a mind of its own, different in sound, duration, strength, etc. Sometimes they are weak and demur other times very loud and powerful, a big blow out.......a multiple personality sneezing disorder perhaps?

Oh yes- the phun of braces! I just got mine off last May. Just finished the payments.....worth every bit of it but I still think they are so expensive for the tiny things!

I didn't know this Amanda, you have real purty teeth ----> :D

I had braces, twice! OMG, and my teeth have shifted yet again but I can't bring myself to get them for the third time

Unfortunately I inherited the worst of the sneezes of BOTH sides of my family. My sneezes can rattle walls and I have to TRY and be quite dainty with them. This has led, on rare occasion, to a horrid eyeball blowout and really loud honk-snort in public places. It hurts, too.

Ok this cracked me up because I can so relate! My big blow out sneezes practically crack a rib

Ok- what a crazy day

No NYC trip due to the weather/work schedules, but we are going to try to go out and do something tomorrow night. John and I are thinking about maybe getting a christmas tree this evening--it would be a great evening to do that.

I am just so glad it is Friday, we got some stuff to go over at the new house tomorrow.

Hear ye, hear ye!! Big news - - I have delivered Sam Hill Manhead to my single-mom, living-wif-two-young-boys-on-her-own friend. Wrapped him all up with an explanatory card attached, stating that this item is the latest thing on the market for women alone who want to discourage break-ins from raping psychopaths.

OMG..... . . .she opened it, and we larfed...and larfed . . ...and LARFED........

She was in hysterics . . .then ran with him to her front window, where he proudly sits. She will be moving him about in shifts to keep the ruse believable, of course.

Imagine the stories. .. . . .suddenly, that woman in unit 6C has a young man over quite regularly - - he's always staring, staring at her . . .. at he's never wearing a shirt!!:lol:

Oh, and I have visitations rights, and can borrow him at any time, if we need him in Psillyville.

However,....I am dressed to kill....off out tonight for the annual aerobic/gym xmas dinner + drinkies  ..

Neither of them were anemic 6 months after the Celiac diagnosis. His other vitamin levels (d, B12) were never low. My daughters levels were normal after the first 6 months. Is the thiamine test just called thiamine?
    • knitty kitty
Yes, I do think they need a Thiamine supplement at least. Especially since they eat red meat only occasionally. Most fruits and vegetables are not good sources of Thiamine.  Legumes (beans) do contain thiamine.  Fruits and veggies do have some of the other B vitamins, but thiamine B 1 and  Cobalamine B12 are mostly found in meats.  Meat, especially organ meats like liver, are the best sources of Thiamine, B12, and the six other B vitamins and important minerals like iron.   Thiamine has antibacterial and antiviral properties.  Thiamine is important to our immune systems.  We need more thiamine when we're physically ill or injured, when we're under stress emotionally, and when we exercise, especially outside in hot weather.  We need thiamine and other B vitamins like Niacin B 3 to keep our gastrointestinal tract healthy.  We can't store thiamine for very long.  We can get low in thiamine within three days.  Symptoms can appear suddenly when a high carbohydrate diet is consumed.  (Rice and beans are high in carbohydrates.)  A twenty percent increase in dietary thiamine causes an eighty percent increase in brain function, so symptoms can wax and wane depending on what one eats.  The earliest symptoms like fatigue and anxiety are easily contributed to other things or life events and dismissed.   Correcting nutritional deficiencies needs to be done quickly, especially in children, so their growth isn't stunted.  Nutritional deficiencies can affect intelligence.  Vitamin D deficiency can cause short stature and poor bone formation.   Is your son taking anything for the anemia?  Is the anemia caused by B12 or iron deficiency?
    • lizzie42
Thank you! That's helpful. My kids eat very little processed food. Tons of fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs and occasional red meat. We do a lot of rice and bean bowls, stir fry, etc.  Do you think with all the fruits and vegetables they need a vitamin supplement? I feel like their diet is pretty healthy and balanced with very limited processed food. The only processed food they eat regularly is a bowl of Cheerios here and there.  Could shaking legs be a symptom of just a one-time gluten exposure? I guess there's no way to know for sure if they're getting absolutely zero exposure because they do go to school a couple times a week. We do homeschool but my son does a shared school 2x a week and my daughter does a morning Pre-K 3 x a week.  At home our entire house is strictly gluten free and it is extremely rare for us to eat out. If we eat at someone else's house I usually just bring their food. When we have play dates we bring all the snacks, etc. I try to be really careful since they're still growing. They also, of course, catch kids viruses all the time so I  want to make sure I know whether they're just sick or they've had gluten. It can be pretty confusing when they're pretty young to even be explaining their symptoms!
    • Scott Adams
That is interesting, and it's the first time I heard about the umbilical cord beings used for that test. Thanks for sharing!
    • knitty kitty
@lizzie42, You're being a good mom, seeking answers for your son.  Cheers! Subclinical thiamine deficiency commonly occurs with anemia.  An outright Thiamine deficiency can be precipitated by the consumption of a high carbohydrate meal.   Symptoms of Thiamine deficiency include feeling shakey or wobbly in the legs, muscle weakness or cramps, as well as aggression and irritability, confusion, mood swings and behavior changes.  Thiamine is essential to the production of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine which keep us calm and rational.   @Jsingh, histamine intolerance is also a symptom of Thiamine deficiency.  Thiamine is needed to prevent mast cells from releasing histamine at the slightest provocation as is seen in histamine intolerance.  Thiamine and the other B vitamins and Vitamin C are needed to clear histamine from the body.  Without sufficient thiamine and other B vitamins to clear it, the histamine builds up.  High histamine levels can change behavior, too.  High histamine levels are found in the brains of patients with schizophrenia.  Thiamine deficiency can also cause extreme hunger or conversely anorexia.   High carbohydrate meals can precipitate thiamine deficiency because additional thiamine is required to process carbohydrates for the body to use as fuel.  The more carbohydrates one eats daily, the more one needs additional thiamine above the RDA.  Thiamine is water soluble, safe and nontoxic even in high doses. Keep in mind that gluten-free processed foods like cookies and such are not required to be fortified and enriched with vitamins and minerals like their gluten containing counterparts are.  Limit processed gluten-free foods.  They are often full of empty calories and unhealthy saturated fats and additives, and are high in histamine or histamine release triggers.  It's time you bought your own vitamins to supplement what is not being absorbed due to malabsorption of Celiac disease.  Benfotiamine is a form of Thiamine that has been shown to improve intestinal health as well as brain function. Do talk to your doctors and dieticians about supplementing with the essential vitamins and minerals while your children are growing up gluten free.  Serve nutritionally dense foods.  Meats and liver are great sources of B vitamins and minerals. Hope this helps!  Keep us posted on your progress!
