Jess, thanks for the site so we could see what your avatar is! I was straining to read the tiny print. I know my eyes are pretty bad......but gee! Great root word....but not so sure I like words like "airhead", or maybe that's right because I can't remember any of the others!

Hey guys!! Question for the day....Just how does one hoist oneself above and beyond the seasonal doldrums? When people used to ask me if I'm ready for Christmas, I always replied that it would steam roller over me whether I was ready or not :P

I avoid the shopping craze by picking things up here and there through the year....so that's not it. I've already decorated the house (as much as we're going to) so it's bright and cheery...so that's not it. I'm just not sure how to break out of this particular brown bag!

You all help, though. Thanks for being here! ;)

Sounds like you need some Vitamin D. Or a full-spectrum lamp to sit under every day.

I had pavlova years ago--it was so good! As I remember, twas a sweet merange cloud, baked and served in juicy strawberries and topped wif whipped cream. That's how me SIL made it, anyway......and yes, come to think of it, twod be poifect fer our diet. :P

Don't tell the blue ad pholks, but I just phinished off a half tube of Stax  In lieu of lunch.....I pheel I need to post a disclamer on me gluttony

"Did you know that Chinese herbs can treat herpetiformis dermatitis"? You'd think they'd do a little research before they tried marketing this crap. I had the "5 steps to a flat belly" too. You know what? My boyfriend likes my squishy belly!!!!! So there!!!!!

That's awesome!

But I'd rather see it written on a sandy beach :P

There is a new development within the family that just might keep me amused this holiday. My husband's family will be having the family celebration the Sunday after Christmas. We asked my SIL, who is hosting it this year(I know I've already said this, but..YAY!) if it would be OK if we invited my brother. He doesn't have a family or a relationship. My SIL, said yes, and wanted to invite him herself. Well.......she is single....he is single......she's always thought he was cute. It seems she has plans to put the make on him! I can't picture them together, but this makes Lisa giggle!:P:lol:.......I kinda feel sorry for my bro, but he's a big boy.......he can handle it!

How to hoist oneself above and beyond the seasonal doldrums?....I just realized I spelled doldrums duldrums in my last post  I much rather like "dull drums" because that's how one actually feels, like dull drums beating without any life or energy to the beat, very dull :lol: ........... I do not know Theresa  maybe take one day at a time and try not to let the stress over take you and dont sweat the small stuff, maybe try to do something that brings you joy.

If that doesn't work, maybe a drink?!?!?!

Evening Sillies-

wow did that weekend fly by, yesterday we did the touch up paint at the house plus while there we picked out the paint colors for the rooms we wanted to paint before we moved in...Yeah!!!!!

last night we decided to tackle Christmas shopping, or more so browsing since we are strapped for some cash this year, but I guess who isn't..... We went to Ollies cause buying toys there is cheaper. I am not sure any other sillies besides Patti and Judy have been to an Ollies, since I believe it is a chain in our general areas. But it is kinda of like Big Lots only much more stuff like rugs and things.

Well they had Fisher-Paykel stainless steel side by side fridges at a great price. We are going back to purchase one. They are all new in box, with the exception of the floor model. All come with a 2-yr warranty too. I love the Fisher-Paykel appliances, they are just a little pricey.

Today we bummed around a bit. Tonight is the giants game, I am working on a new puzzle John got me. So I will work on that and cheer the team on :)

Gawd Jess--yer holiday spread made me mouth water! I'm Italian, so we always had a meatless Christmas Eve. Meatless, but phar from a "fast": of any sort :P In the days leading up to Christmas Eve, my aunt and I would make about a dozen pies (literally), and christmas cookies. On the night of, we'd start wif deep fried smelt <drool> (and beer, if you were old enough--in our phamily, this meant about 13 :P) and then just tons of phood like baccala (salt cod), linguini wif clams, pasta wif squid (red) sauce, pasta fazool, antipasto, and salads. Me grandpa would make roasted chestnuts, too. We'd sit down to eat around 6 or so and not get up till it was time to get ready for midnight mass.

REALLY makes me wish I were Italian, or something interesting with strong cultural traditions but NO, we're just super-boring white people.......I don't even think I can remember a tradition, except opening one gift on Christmas eve

But Soooozie, if a twelve year-old can can sit through it four times (and she did, silently and patiently  ), you absolutely can, too!

gawd, that poor Sophie - a horrifying tale..... :( But she made it! I'm not scared of the pain.....I'm scared of the freakin' COST

and YAY! A tie!!!!!!!!!! Yay Sophie!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I might suggest you consider buckwheat groats. https://www.amazon.com/Anthonys-Organic-Hulled-Buckwheat-Groats/dp/B0D15QDVW7/ref=sr_1_4_pp?crid=GOFG11A8ZUMU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.bk-hCrXgLpHqKS8QJnfKJLKbKzm2BS9tIFv3P9HjJ5swL1-02C3V819UZ845_kAwnxTUM8Qa69hKl0DfHAucO827k_rh7ZclIOPtAA9KjvEEYtaeUV06FJQyCoi5dwcfXRt8dx3cJ6ctEn2VIPaaFd0nOye2TkASgSRtdtKgvXEEXknFVYURBjXen1Nc7EtAlJyJbU8EhB89ElCGFPRavEQkTFHv9V2Zh1EMAPRno7UajBpLCQ-1JfC5jKUyzfgsf7jN5L6yfZSgjhnwEbg6KKwWrKeghga8W_CAhEEw9N0.eDBrhYWsjgEFud6ZE03iun0-AEaGfNS1q4ILLjZz7Fs&dib_tag=se&keywords=buckwheat%2Bgroats&qid=1769980587&s=grocery&sprefix=buchwheat%2Bgroats%2Cgrocery%2C249&sr=1-4&th=1 Takes about 10 minutes to cook. Incidentally, I don't like quinoa either. Reminds me and smells to me like wet grass seed. When its not washed before cooking it makes me ill because of saponins in the seed coat. Yes, it can be difficult to get much dietary calcium without dairy. But in many cases, it's not the amount of calcium in the diet that is the problem but the poor uptake of it. And too much calcium supplementation can interfere with the absorption of vitamins and minerals in general because it raises gut pH.

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.
    • trents
Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
