Hi everybody! I am here, afterall. No, you didn't ditch me.

Had a hurk of a day today. It actually got cold enough for the last of the rain to freeze (on the deck and on the grass at least). I decided to walk out to get the paper by way of the back door. I stepped out onto the deck, enjoyed watching the birdies feeding and bathing in the waterfall. Then proceeded to play slinky down the stairs....flexible flyer without the snowbank and without the sled....arse over teakettle and all of that. It's fun to watch a slinky but not to be one. Once I got over feeling all shook up (not Elvis style) I decided I was fine and probably would live another day. However.....many sore spots, joints achy more than usual, and one knee that definitely looks melon-like.....big and round.

Went on to have a fairly normal day otherwise. Church was nice, started the crockpot, made bread. Am so glad I didn't have to work today. I normally do on Sundays.

We're about to get a cold snap for the next day or two....teen predicted over night. Then back to better temps. Still too cold for me when it's "normal". Guess I should have moved even further south!

Anyway....am loving the posts.....adore the elfing yourself!!!! So clever! Carry on all...I'll be back :D

When I came back there were frantic kitty prints pacing around all the doors, so I called him. Lyle shows up, well past mad, thoroughly into 'Thank God' and waddles inside.

Poor little Lylesicle :(

 I am starting to think that the Sassy Face is also used when she's just plain mad at me for leaving her. we are RARELY apart.....'tis wildly dysfunctional  She has not snacked on any part of the tree, nor scavenged through any trash.....nor left a phecal nugget anywhere.

BTW I have posted new photos of her very animated face on the 'book ;)

JULES!!!!!!!!! I shall STEAL Nik's tiger pig and LOUNGE about yer divan and eat snacks and drink tea and we will all watch English Christmas movies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the setups.......well, one's a swim coach and wine rep, the other (the hottie that I've known before) is a physical therapist.......but - - he really IS damaged and 'tis not time......

I am not concerned and not really putting much thought into this......have asked God to work out all details. ;) My young neighbor and his wife told me about the swim coach in August or September, for Pete's sake, and I have delayed the meeting all this time......

You need to meet my brother, dammit!!

Here's an old email I found from him that he sent this past March (obviously was around Easter - - should change it to a Christmas theme):

How to Have an Easter Egg Hunt in Solitary Confinement

Send him down, how many times do I have to tell ya??????????????????

I went to a party down the street, leaving Lyle outside. When I came back there were frantic kitty prints pacing around all the doors, so I called him. Lyle shows up, well past mad, thoroughly into 'Thank God' and waddles inside. So I look to see why he's waddling and the poor boy has about a pound of ice balls stuck all over his tummy!

well past mad and thoroughly into Thank GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Our youngest cat, Riley, loves to go outside on the deck at the rear of the house. She sits by the sliding door and cries plaintively to be let out. Well, there is a good phoot of snaux on the deck. Today, Jacquie acquiesced to her plaints and opened the door. She didn't know what to make of the snaux. She looked at it, but did not venture out. Nevertheless, I expect that tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that, she will again be at the door whining to be let out.

Nikki, we have a spare kettle you can borrow. It is electric, something our American friends just won't get. Drop by, ring the bell, and we'll let you have it.

Em, that is a marvelous happening.

A quiet day here. We made the staff work so we could stay home and rest catch up on housework (J) and bookkeeping and other paperwork (P). Back into the storm store tomorrow, with full days Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The store will be closed on the 25th and 26th.

More snaux coming on Tuesday and Wednesday. Bah.

Good morning everyone!!!! All of your stories of snaux make me appreciate where I am all the more. Until 2 years ago we lived in the Adirondacks in Upstate NY. They are having lots of nassssty snaux and cold weather, too! Most of my family is still there, so I get reports. Don't miss it atall, nope.

Broozes are being ignored as much as possible. Even if they were exact images of Michal Jackson, I'd never admit it :lol: !!! Been wearing a brace on the knee to keep it stable. I'm a tad concerned about a popping/clicking sensation when I walk. I'll stew on that for a while, hoping I don't need to do anything about it.

Going for a mamogram this afternoon  Hate it, hate it. Then again, I don't know anyone who enjoys it. Think I'll practice slamming myself in the doorway.....or maybe I'll be so frozen I won't feel it. One can only hope.

Anyway, hope you are coping all right with this winter madness.....no power outs, plenty of gluten-free food, no more hairy ice-balls! 'till later

 I have heard of them, these electric kettles...think me dad had one at his office....but you're right, we don't get it!

Lots of snaux, Peter, and lots of work.....pray you have hundreds of wealthy customers who want to pamper their pets!!

Awwwwww.........me very phirst 'where is Leesah'! ..........warms the cockles of me 'eart!

WHAT? how could we? Well this must mean that you haven't been absent for more than two days? you usually DO check in in the eves, you silly

Oh! I have an idea for a fun project!!! hide the crutch tip in strange places repeatedly for her. First, in her bed......she'll bring it out to you, with the disquietingly casual remark: "I found this in my bed, what does it mean?" and then.......in her suitcase, her bath, on the seat of the car before she gets in, pocket of her coat.......finally, her coffee.........it'll be fun!!!!!! *SNACKLE*

But really Em - - don't bring Man Head over during her stay and put him by her bed at night. That would NOT be nice.

I've an idea, Tuhreeesah. You're on the right track with the frozen idea - - you really will not feel anything if yer boobs are frozen...... . .Might I suggest standing outside the medical clinic, just before your appointment, and opening your coat, lifting up your sweater and bra, and letting them be completely exposed for, say, three or four minutes. You will be numb for an hour, perhaps, and will feel no discomfort from the squishing plates.

Yes, this is a grand idea. Must remember to re-jig my yearly appointment so that it falls in January instead of August. . . . . ....

Oh! I have an idea for a fun project!!! hide the crutch tip in strange places repeatedly for her.:lol::lol:

SUPERB, Soooooze!!! No, finally in her Christmas stocking. . . .. ....

I also am quite obsessed now with the idea of Sam Hill Manhead in her bed at night -- rather like a Godfather move... . .. ....I'm calling my girlfriend today, telling her I want him back on Christmas Eve. . . . .

This morning, I caught John Pinette on The View doing a comedy bit. He was talking about different irritants in his life, and he mentioned health food stores. I agree, there can be contamination at many points--milling is another possible source of contamination for any flours.
    • trents
Keep in mind that with manufactured food products, "gluten free" doesn't equate to no gluten. Things that are naturally gluten free can be cross-contaminated with gluten in the field, in shipping and in processing. In the U.S. companies can use the gluten free label as long as the product doesn't exceed 20ppm of gluten. That amount still may cause a reaction in some people.

Dd10 was tested for celiac four years ago bc two siblings were dx’d (positive labs and biopsies). Her results at the time were positive ema  and ttg (7x the UL), but a negative biopsy. We checked again three months later and her ttg was still positive (4x the UL), but ema and biopsy were negative. Doc said it was “potential celiac” and to keep eating gluten, but we were concerned about harming her growth and development while young and had her go gluten-free because we felt the labs and ema in particular were very suggestive of early celiac, despite the negative biopsies. She also had stomach aches and lethargy when eating it. We just felt it’d be better to be safe than sorry. Now, four years later, she doesn’t want to be gluten-free if she doesn’t “have to be,” so underwent a 12 week gluten challenge. She had labs done before starting and all looked great (celiac panel all negative, as expected.) Surprisingly, she experienced no noticeable symptoms when she began eating gluten again, which we felt was a positive sign. However, 12 weeks in, her labs are positive again (ttg 4x the UL and ema positive again as well). Doc says that since she feels fine and her previous two biopsies showed nothing, she can just keep eating gluten and we could maybe biopsy again in two years. I was looking up the ema test and the probability of having not just one but two false positives, and it seems ridiculously low.  Any advice? Would you biopsy again? She’s old enough at this point that I really feel I need her buy-in to keep her gluten-free, and she feels that if the doc says it’s fine, then that’s the final word — which makes me inclined to biopsy again and hope that it actually shows damage this time (not because I want her to have celiac like her sisters, but because I kind of think she already does have it, and seeing the damage now would save her more severe damage in the long run that would come from just continuing to eat gluten for a few more years before testing again.)  Our doc is great - we really like him. But we are very confused and want to protect her. One of her older sibs stopped growing and has lots of teeth problems and all that jazz from not catching the celiac disease sooner, and we don’t want to get to that point with the younger sis. fwiw- she doesn’t mind the biopsy at all. It’s at a children’s hospital and she thinks it’s kind of fun. So it’s not like that would stress her out or anything.

Thanks for the replies. I already use a gluten-free brand of buckwheat flakes I occasionally get itchy bumps. I'm still reviewing all my food products. I occasionally eat prepackaged gluten-free crackers and cookies, so I'll stop using those. I use buckwheat flakes and Doves Farm flour as a base for baking. Would you recommend eliminating those as well? It's a constant search.

Gluten free food is not fortified with vitamins and minerals as regular food is.  Vitamin deficiencies are common especially in recently diagnosed persons,  Get a 25(OH)Vitamin D blood test. And work on raising it.  The safe upper blood level is around 200 nmol/L.    "Low serum levels of 25(OH)D have been associated with increased risk of autoimmune disease onset and/or high disease activity. The role of vitamin D in autoimmune diseases   🏋️‍♂️Good job!   I find the commercial milk will give me mild stomach burn at night, while pasture/grassfed only milk does not bother me at all.  While you are healing, listen to your body.  If it hurts to eat something, eat something else.  You may be able to eat it later, or maybe it is just not good for you.  Lower your Omega 6 to 3 ratio of what you eat.  Most omega 6 fatty acids are inflammation causing.    The standard american diet omega 6:3 ratio is estimated at upward of 14:1.  Thats why fish oil works
