Hehehehehehe......Ijust realized this is kinda like soap operas...or even better....cliffhangers..only in slowmo!! Here I am glued to the screen to see what happens next....waiting for the next episode....but seconds seem like hours here! :lol::lol:

Gonna have to get going here in a minute. We are watching Oliver Twist on the PBS station. Saw part one last Sunday....it's a re-make...and a bit different than what I remember reading in the book all those many decades ago.

Since you don't know how many checks are being written, there is not one clearcut answer.

If you set them up as equalities, you can figure out at how many checks they would be the same.

8+.50x=y

6+.75x=y

Therefore

8+.50x=6+.75y

subtract 6 from both sides

2+.50x=.75y

subtract .50x from both sides

2=.25y

divide both sides by .25

8=y

sooo.....at 8 checks, they are the same

Now go back to the original equations and insert a number lesser or greater than 8 to find which is the lowest monthly charge at less than 8 checks or more than 8 checks.

Plus you have an error in yer mathS . . . :lol::lol: . . . I'm using my red pencil to point out that if you subtract .50x from both sides, you get

2=.75y-.50x . . . *snickersnicker*

OK OK . . . just making fun of yer typo(s)

Hey, Jyagnutt! That looks suspiciously bang-on! Thanks, you mathy whiz... .. ....Sophie wants to throw one more out there:

One more...that's it - -we promise!

Now, to solve this one you have to do so by making 2 equations, then using substitution or elimination to solve for one of the variables.

At a silversmith's shop, they have alloys that contain 40% silver and others that contain 50% silver. A custom order for a bracelet requires 150 g of 44% silver. How much of each alloy should be melted together to make the bracelet?

:wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko:

x = weight of 40% silver

y = weight of 50% silver

x + y=150 g

.4x + .5y = .44(150) = 66 g

x = 150 - y

.4(150 - y) + .5y = 66

60 - .4y + .5y = 66

.1y = 6

y = 60 g

x = 150 - 60

x = 90 g

YAY!! Dear gawd, I have trouble reading through the whole question, let alone this answer........Sophie just copied it into her notebook, and has gone off to process it. I, however, have quoted it, and will never look at it again!! :rolleyes:

Anyone watching the Oscars.?

well of course I am, and I have things to say, but then THIS HAPPENED:

Darius saves $500 and wants to open a chequing account. Ontario Trust charges $8 per month, plus $.50 per cheque. Maple Leafs Savings charges $6 per month, plus $.75 per cheque. Which bank offers the lowest monthly charge?

The Oscar fashions......and things..........where do I begin?

Almost every dress is the same :blink: strapless with too much sequinage/sparkle/silly detail or WAY too many pleats.....what in hell? Or different-coloUred fabric strips with sequins on them......didn't like any of them.....wrong coloUrs and shapes.....wrong everything...... instead of knockdown gorgeous they just look....like they dressed up :unsure: Too many mermaid dresses.....Vanessa Hudgens crashed into a bird before the show and he left his feathers entwined in her bodice - such a busy dress for a wee girl.....I don't know what Tilda Swinton had wrapped around her body but - they might have STITCHED the dress instead of just tying a vomit-coloUred fabric swath around her shoulder? :huh:

am I being mean? :lol:

I'm just sayin.......if you gots tons of money and yer going on the Oscars, well, it should really be summat :lol:

now where was I? :lol:

Sarah Jessica Parker was Glenda the Good Witch and I don't understand... :blink: ..Penelope Cruz yanked the curtains off Scarlet Ohara's windows er summat - - the embroidery was QUITE lovely but the draped ruffles - bad...why is Philip Seymour Hoffman wearing a ski hat? PSuessly.....I'm reading your descriptions and I can't even picture this stuff. Then again...I have no fashion sense at all!! My idea of dressing up is putting on my newest, cleanest blue jeans :lol::lol: Our TV gets turned on only a few times a year..usually to watch something particular that has caught our interest...usually PBS B) so the names mean absolutely nothing. I guess I'm some kind of weirdo to not like television. I feel so out of the loop when people start discussing shows, new movies and the latest and greatest stars.......but if you want to talk about the ones pre-1980 I might have a clue :o

I do enjoy your descriptions, though!

Em....hope you got throught the night with all of the math homework!!!! :D When I was going through it with my boy.....the poor kid....I'd tell him...."I already did 7th grade (or whatever grade) and now it's your turn. Figure it out. Wish I could do some of those things over again :(

Morning Sillies-

far too much to comment on as I have missed the last few days.

So Hi to all!!

spent Friday with my mom and sis and had lots of fun-- except that the winds were back--crazy!

Sat was apartment cleaning day and was not fun at all! I took a bit of a spill on the stairs there and today me back is a bit sore yet!

Yesterday was Lydia's 1st birthday party and we went to that which was fun.

Now I am back at work--it is windy and cold! Is spring ever going to get here?

Gooooood Mathy Mornin', Psillies!

Well, the mathS is over for me, at least......thank GAWD. Sophie has trundled off to school with Gee-ahgnutt's set of equations written down, with arrows in a couple of places and corresponding questions for the teacher. Once it was all in an algebraic form, I think some lights went off for her......and, I can hardly believe it.....for ME, as well. :o I could feel the wheels crunching away in my brain as I looked at the unknown variables, wisps of clarity and understanding floating around me....I almost understood it all!! :lol:

DD's test is tomorrow.. . . . ....stay tuned. . . . ...

:huh: I don't know what you mean . . . In fact, I used it last night!!!

You sho did. . . . ...Dazzled us, unsettled us, freaked us out. . . . . but you used it! :D

Tuhreeeeesah, I am so like you here. . . . ...I don't watch enough TV to know what's going on in all the big popular series. I try to scramble to a few movies a year, or rent them, but I didn't really know much about what was being awarded last evening.

But I, as well, loved Psoooozie's fashion recap!

Zella!!! WELCOME! You sound suspiciously Psilly, as well........ you need to stick around. Um, you said that you enjoyed reading ALL of our posts.. . ... :unsure: .....Like, all 1900+ pages of posts?? :huh: Whoa. .. . .. ...can't imagine you catch too much TV or movie time yerself. . . . . ..... :lol:

Oh fooey! I read quite a few pages, until I found the lovely double arrow... Yea, I was stuck in 2006 for a little bit too long. Whoops :P Once I got out of the past and joined 2009, I read a few pages and thoroughly enjoyed those as well!

All this math talk is making me hungry. Not for math, but food.. What does one eat at this hour? I'm in morning territory, aaahhhh! I'm one of them, insomniac folk.. or a vampire.. Maybe vampire, since I can sleep in the day. Huh.. Anywho, I did manage to watch the Oscar's. The fashion was delightful! I've not been this excited about a fashion trend since... well... hmm.. it's been a long while. Oh! And I heard bell bottoms were making a come back....

Love how my thought process resembles a ping pong match.. or ping poing.. since I can't types this a maka me psilly... ;)

Thank you for the WARM welcome!!

K.. me. bed. now.

By the way Zella, you tell everyone in your sig that you have a warning?? . . . Nobody can see that you have a warning except for you and the moderators so no need to apologiz in yer sig. Howeveh, if you're proud of yer warning that's a different story. You should announce it and then add something like (with attitude) . . . "Yeah, I'm bad. So What!!! <then this next part wif a Dirty Harry accent> Go Ahead, Make My Day!!"

Oooooops . . . and forgot to say . . . Welcome to Sillville, where spelling is opshunal.

Spent yesterday evening hanging out with my young friend Maddie while her mom and dad went to some concert. Forgot how manipulative 7yo s are (AND I get to have a cookie after I brush my teeth!...um, that's about the one thing you DON'T get after cleaning your teeth...).

Bit sleepy this morning, but whatever fatigue thing I was in the midst of has passed. Nice to be just sleepy, not preternaturally tired.

Here . . . I'll put it into terms that you can relate to:

Say you desire a $6000 breast augmentation procedure. You can put away $25/month towards the procedure. How many months until you can't get yerselph some new boobs???

Never comes up in my life :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

How bout this one for ya, Jess?

There are 50.7 ounces (1.5L) in a bottle of red wine (cause I know you buy the big bottles). You need 16 ounces of wine to make your famous tapioca/red wine pudding. How many batches of tapioca red wine pudding can you make before you need to go back to the liquor store?

See . . . you guys use it every day and just don't realize it.

      Does anyone know if that includes scrambled eggs and healthy smart butter (,gluten free) I add a very tiny amount of margarine less than a teaspoon.  I did no't have any bread    It just seems like no matter what I eat my stomach and nerves over fire and here comes a host of horrible symptoms. My lower abdomen feels horrible, my right leg thigh muscle.. very odd. Jaw pain. Burning feet , joint pain , you name it  The anxiety just creeps up into brain fog. I don't think I could explain this to anyone who is unfamiliar.  Also,  I most likely will not remember posting this until I check it.  This is highly unusual for me because I have an excellent memory.  One weekend before I knew anything about celiac I lost an entire weekend from severe brain fog, confusion, pain, etc.  I honestly thought I was losing my mind. When I think back I recall eating a lot of PBJ sandwiches and turkey sandwiches.  Once again did not know about gluten.  I was just too sick to cook. Do people fast during attacks ?? It seems horrible to keep going through this. I hope I'm not causing my own problems... I wonder if I should fast because I'm not eating gluten .  Chicken ,  scrambled eggs no milk , canned carrots,  gluten free low sugar low fat Greek yogurt which I already posted about 😞 Any suggestions I am open... I am bedridden when this happens to me.  Thank you Celiac community. 🙏🏻❤️
    • Juliane
      Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…
    • RMJ
      I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.
    • Colleen H
      Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you
    • sleuth
      Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.
