Gad's Shrooms you had quite an adventure!! I always wanted to go to Austrailia--until I heard about the giant spiders. The ones that hide in your shoes were what did me in. No visiting for this arachnaphobe!!

Ja-gnit, I will pile on all the new info and see if anything jives. Will let you know what I find out!!

Pateh, I'm afraid that the ice cream will push me off the wagon. I have not given it just yet, I did have some "non-dairy" creamer that I looked at the label later and saw it contained milk proteins in it, and now my face is all broken out, so at the moment, the ice cream does nae look attractive...however, the girl scout cookie ice cream is out and the samoa is my super-fave

White-tailed spiders are supposedly not poisonous, just slightly "dirty" with what they inject in you so cause infection, but the bite was razor sharp :o and it left three! fang marks (is this even possible with arachnids??) The only mildly poisonous spider we have is the katipo, a relative of the black widow, which likes to cosy up to you in the sand dunes. So you will be quite safe here in my guest room!!

Anyhoo, t'is my right arm (bicep) sore today  from all that directing "Your next room is this way, ladies" indicating with sweeping motion of right arm. Shows how much I need to return to my weight training  Talk about a lack of fitness!!

That is quite a globe-trotting goal you have there, although I suppose you could do Scotland, Ireland and Iceland in one go. Doesn't sound much like a beach holiday :P But New Zealand is hard to combine with much else except the snake- and spider- and crocodile-infested Australia. You could maybe add Antartica to the schedule, but currently unless you plan on working on the ice, excursions are run only out of South America. We just send down the supplies and the manpower during the summer only. The last of the summer crew will be returning this month; the rest will be wintering over, in the dark

By the way, I just learned from something Scott posted on celiac.com that there is a company that runs gluten free cruises and trips. One of the cruises is the Inside Passage this May; it was a bit late to book for it this year, but maybe they will run it again. Would love to do that.

It's phunny--I was off all dairy for years, and tried it last summer and found I did ok wif it. I normally stick wif Greek yogurt and organic fat free milk in me tea.....last night's ice cream not withstanding

I also can't tolerate legumes, and I recently tried peanut butter again but no such luck there--those made me phace (chin) break out! Bah!

Speaking of Jack . . . I hit every red light on my way to work yesterday when I was already late as it was . . . found myself muttering "no way in hell I would sign up for this!!!"

How terrific, Patteigh... . .a visit with your son! And how great for HIM that his mom is on board to take care of him. :) Will he climb into your and Mark's bed to convalesce? I remember SO clearly as a kid, when I had the phloo, how it always felt somehow better when I went and snuggled in my parents' big bed, and coughed and sweat and threw up from in there.

HEY! Where is Canada in these lists?

<_<

'Tis true, we don't often make many tourist wish lists. . . ... . .....we're missing history, big-time, and this is an important element, as least for me, in choosing where we're vacationing. But that's all we ain't got! We have the most beautiful coasts, mountains, hockey players.. . . poutine... . .... . .

I also can't tolerate legumes, and I recently tried peanut butter again but no such luck there--those made me phace (chin) break out! Bah!

Dear gawd... . .I have often thought about choosing the absolutely WORST thing I would have to endure food-wise, and the banishment of PB would be it. However, I would absolutely be ten pounds slimmer, immediately and forever.

Speaking of Jack . . . I hit every red light on my way to work yesterday when I was already late as it was . . . found myself muttering "no way in hell I would sign up for this!!!"

Yes, I have muttered this a few times since Jack posited The Choice for us, as I sat, teeth clenched, fist tapping the steering wheel with my eye on the digital clock at YET another red light... . ....

.. . . . . . .....But eyes shut for four days?.. .. . . . ... .

 the chin pheet!!! I phorgot all about that!

BA HA! Me, too! Jyaghnutt! (Feel like I'm calling a dog to come and fetch somefin').. . .. ...Here, Jyaghnutt! Go and fetch the quote of Jack's question about the chin feet! Canna remember what the other choice was... . . . . . . . .. . . .. . . ....a li'l bum on yer forehead, was it?

Shroomster! Phorgot to mention how I enjoyed your account of your New Zealand House posting. .... . ..can picture you swooshing your right arm in the direction where you wanted the tourists to go. Did your wires and plugs and cables become entangled a t all?

Wow......spider bite. Yick. . . . .......this is one thing to put on the Official List of reasons one would WANT to visit Canada - - no biting spiders.

Here is our scariest arachnid, the Dock Spider. Harmless but large....they hang around under docks, boat houses, etc. Rah-shyellle, don't look - - just skip to the next post:

Well, you know I can't resist a challenge . . . you don't even have to double dog dare me . . . Emily's post that started the chin feet/forehead butt debate . . . GAHHHHH!!!!! You guys need to read some of this. Sometimes we are just brilliantly funny!!!!

:lol::lol::lol: OMG....

Okay...Jack has another tough question for us all to debate.

Another choice to make:

You must choose either option, or you will be dead. <_<:lol:

Would you rather have:

A small (but unproductive) butt on your forehead....

OR

Two little feet dangling from your chin?

:lol::lol:

You know, I really shouldn't . . . I should make you go look for yourselves . . .

Apparently, a bunch of us should be dead since we never actually picked even though we discussed it at great lengths . . .

The only people who made decisions . . .

Chin feet were chosen by tom, Juliem and Nikki

Butt heads were chosen by Patti, Bev, and ~alex~

(:( missing Psillies)

I apparently need to kick myself in the forehead butt and change my attitude . . . I was much funnier two years ago . . . perhaps I should drink more.

Indeed. Just picturing this requires me to sit down and take a deep breath.

Yes, Jyaghnutt, you have ALWAYS made me larf. Must go back and read, but I KNOW that I am no longer particularly phunny. Yup, kick in the arse needed! Hopefully 'tis something that waxes and wanes, and I'll find some phunniness again. SOON.

On my list for today - - will ask Jack for another stupendous What Would You Choose? question. Perhaps he is no longer as phunny now that he is suddenly a teen. Hmmm. Hafta kick his arse... . . . ..

I'm sure my funny is somewhere at the bottom of that never-ending laundry basket.

Must head out for the walk. I have to be somewhere at 10 and my walks take about 2 hours.

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/
    • Lkg5
Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
