Lord, I have all this to look forward to with Jack.... . . ....actually, there will be no car parts strewn about with him. ... . . ..I'll be seeing model pieces, papers on various theses, scribblings on life... . .... .and these things can take up nearly as much space, so I won't be getting off easy, to be sure. BUT -- no epoxy paint smell. 'Tis good. .. . ....

On the outside picnic table 'round here there are no freshly-painted vehicle parts, as my seventeen year-old is a girl. There's a big, portable mirror, hair straightener and blow dryer, eyeliners and hair elastics, nail polish.... . . . . ..guess it was a kind of outdoor salon-type setting yesterday. . . . ....

Patti - did your boys do this, too? So many of his friends have no idea how to do anything on their car or change a spark plug on a lawn mower (probably because the Dads or Moms don't either).

Oh yes. The main reason JP moved into his own house at 24 was because he needed more room for "car stupf"....Matt was also at the age where he was getting into it.....add in Mark's car nuttiness....and our 2 car garage/short driveway wasn't cutting it.

All my guys know their way around the inside of autos--Matt actually went to school for it and has a specialized Associate Degree in auto tech and has many additional certifications. He was recruited while still in school to apprentice part time at a major PA dealership until he graduated. He's still there after 5 years :D

He has already restored a 1963 Corvair and his current project is a 1958 Plymouth convertible.

kareng Grand Master

Hub has a Miata he works on and adds to - my parents order special parts for him for Xmas like red hoses. He is thinking about a piece of land 1 hour south of here because it has a large heated & air conditioned garage and is next to a lake. May never see him again. ;)

J went last summer to a friend who is a professional car painter (paints only the expensive specialty cars). He taught him how to paint his truck's bed cover. Said if the college thing doesn't work out, he would take him as an apprentice.

Man, I want a husband/son like this!! How phabulous to have a guy around who can change yer spark plugs/oil, flush yer radiator, replace lights and sensors.. . . ..... .

The guys around here can do garbage, walk dogs and clean kitchens quite passably. Oh, of course, and posit fascinating questions to ponder, inform me about the highest altitude on earth, the age Van Gogh was when he succumbed, whether or not turtles are amphibians or reptiles.... .. . . .these are all good things.

But I'll ALWAYS be takin' my car to the shop. .... . . . .$$$$$.. . ....<_<

Yo no hablo espanol, pero, en la escuela secundaria he estudiado. Me permito recordar algunas.

abre la puerta

cerra la boca

da me una cerveza

which I think translates into: open the door, close your mouth, get me a beer.

that should get me pretty far.

I'll be going the end of August and plan to do barcelona, the southern towns, and Madrid. I may add some northern stuff, or just save that for later, depending on my mood.

Well, after two very hot and muggy days, today was pleasant. I am writing this sitting out on the deck at almost 10 pm. The sun set just over an hour ago, but the temperature is still around 20C and the humidity is just 33%. No insects either. :)

FlashForward ended last night. :(

Rob announced today that HBO has acquired the rights to "Illegal Alien" for a possible mini-series, of which he would be an executive producer. :)

What does an executive producer do, anyway? Does he produce executives?

Jess is going to Spain! :)

I think ABC goophed big time by not running all of the episodes at one clip. It's hard for people to get back into something after having it gone for months. It worked for Lost, but only after it had been on for several seasons.

I'm glad he has another TV project in the works :)

If you want, I work with a few Puerto Ricans, and I can ask them for some basic stuff. But Rican isn't really always the same as Spanish.....

Hi,  My 7 year daughter has complained of this in the past, which I thought were part of her glutening symptom, but more recently I have come to figure out it's part of her histamine overload symptom. This one symptom was part of her broader profile, which included irritability, extreme hunger, confusion, post-nasal drip. You might want to look up "histamine intolerance". I wish I had known of this at the time of her diagnosis, life would have been much easier.  I hope you are able to figure out.

My 5yo was diagnosed with celiac last year by being tested after his sister was diagnosed. We are very strict on the gluten-free diet, but unsure what his reactions are as he was diagnosed without many symptoms other than low ferritin.  He had a school party where his teacher made gluten-free gingerbread men. I almost said no because she made it in her kitchen but I thought it would be ok.  Next day and for a few after his behavior is awful. Hitting, rude, disrespectful. Mainly he kept saying his legs were shaking. Is this a gluten exposure symptom that anyone else gets? Also the bad behavior?
    • trents
Not necessarily. The "Gluten Free" label means not more than 20ppm of gluten in the product which is often not enough for super sensitive celiacs. You would need to be looking for "Certified Gluten Free" (GFCO endorsed) which means no more than 10ppm of gluten. Having said that, "Gluten Free" doesn't mean that there will necessarily be more gluten than "Certified Gluten" in any given batch run. It just means there could be.

I think it is wise to seek a second opinion from a GI doc and to go on a gluten free diet in the meantime. The GI doc may look at all the evidence, including the biopsy report, and conclude you don't need anything else to reach a dx of celiac disease and so, there would be no need for a gluten challenge. But if the GI doc does want to do more testing, you can worry about the gluten challenge at that time. But between now and the time of the appointment, if your symptoms improve on a gluten free diet, that is more evidence. Just keep in mind that if a gluten challenge is called for, the bare minimum challenge length is two weeks of the daily consumption of at least 10g of gluten, which is about the amount found in 4-6 slices of wheat bread. But, I would count on giving it four weeks to be sure.
