Awesome!!! I'm already learning how to do certain 'special' things so I can be a 'backup' person for when one guy's wife has a baby. Makes me feel good!

That's great!! I'm so happy for you :D

Way to go, Bun-Bun.

No time, except to ask Em and Bevel what makes them think I have hypoglycemia?? :o Not to my knowledge. It's just that my stomach always starts digesting itself if it doesn't have any food to work on, and then all hail breaks loose with the big bloat and stuph :P Don't have any of the classic symptoms when I looked them up

If I may butt in here  What a surprise, right? :P

Shroom, I noticed when I was reading about yer reaction the other day that I think what I've been experiencing is closer to what you have. I used to get panic attacks back in the day before I knew about the Celiac, but they have never happened since and those were different. The last few weeks, I have had 3 "occurrences" of pounding heart, sweaty hands and feet, and chills right after. It lasts about 10-15 minutes and then I'm fine, save for being a little wiped out

All 3 times, I have had gluten-free bread and/or white rice beforehand. I first thought about hypoglycemia, but I had blood tests just recently and my sugar is always fine. I wonder though--and for you too--about reactive hypoglycemia. It doesn't show up always in regular testing, but does in an all-day test. Not eating can trigger it, as can alcohol, sugar (or foods that digest as sugar), and caffeine.

I dunno--just thought I'd throw that out there.

I'm also very interested in what Em and Bevvie have to say :D

hmm. I get the heart pounding thing if I eat too much white rice. Never thought to wonder about it, just figgered I'd stop eating rice. :P

I think I immediately thought of hypoglycemia after your description of your symptoms, Shroom, because my head always seems to be there - - within the world of blood sugar issues. The classic symptoms of low blood sugar happened to you, if I remember correctly: Shaking, weakness, sweat, dizziness.. .... . . ...and it typically happens when one has gone too long without food. Stomach issues aren't normally present, however, but nausea can be, as can tingling around the lips, general confusion and a hammering heartrate.

Because you had gone so long without food, and were experiencing some of these symtoms.. . .. . well, it seems to be walkin' and talkin' like a duck... . . ..

I'm with Em on this one. Same thing happens to me. Quack.

Is this like the women who live together all have their periods at the same time thing? People who post together all end up with hypoglycemia?

Well, see, I don't get the sweaty hands and feet or the chills, but I am totally wiped out after because it can go on for 3 hours :o Howevah, coming home on an empty stomach and having a cocktail!!! Now that's not good!

It's not just pounding, it's erratic as hell, stopping and starting, and the pulses in my head are so painful

Yeah, I unnerstand you live in this world :( but I'm really not keen to go there  No shaking, weakness, sweat, dizziness. No tingling lips, no confoosion. In fact, it is exactly the same as the way I react after eating the high lectin foods (which give me the bloating)

I'm with Em on this one. Same thing happens to me. Quack.

I'm not quacking yet

Thanks for all your responses. It's just that when I checked all the classic symptoms none of them seemed to be me

You should be able to. From within the topic, to the left of the page navigation buttons is a blue button with an inverted black triangle. Click it and you will be asked to type a page number. The riotous phun starts at page 1700.

oh.....I see. They's just hiding it <_<

Speaking of classic sillie moments, remember how we pulled off 100 pages in a weekend when Soozle was kween? Leesigh, as I recall, was instrumental in that one

That's what they've been talkin about, psilly! Page 1700 :P

.....and it was Jan-knit's idea. However, I think I did pull night duty that weekend.

...or the yeti & the care bear :lol:

I think I came on the scene in the middle or towards the end of the yeti and totally missed the care bear

When my DD was diagnosed hypoglycemic, I started to realize I may have it too. I get all those symptoms. Now, I've had the tingling around the lips, too, but always thought it must be a food allergy, but never figured it out. I've been sugar free...including grains...for some time now, and have not had the tingling in a long time. Hmmmm.......

Quack

I gotta bond somehow, as the aforementioned no longer visits :P

Went to a gluten free pitch-in today :) The one that Jyan-knit couldn't attend this year :(

I need to thank her for keeping Skeeter away, cuz I got to win a food basket this time! :D

It's beginning to look like it :o

After Mark left, I was doing a lot of things like grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner, leftover rice cooked in milk for breakfast--easy stuff since it was just me. In other words, I was falling back into eating more of the "white carbs" just because of the convenience.

Today, I had no grain at all...or sugar.... made a real dinner. Feel nice and calm  I'm glad we talked about this!

Yep :) Probably not solved, but more like "so far, so good". I've been living in fear for the past few weeks, thinking I was going to have a heart attack or something--and wouldn't have anyone to call. I wonder if this stuff is messing with my brain.....

Hi Christiana, Many thanks for your response.  Interestingly, I too cannot eat wheat in France without feeling effects (much less than in the US, but won't indulge nonetheless).  I also understand children are screened for celiac in Italy prior to starting their education. Wise idea as it seems my grandson has the beginning symptoms (several celiacs in his dad's family), but parents continue to think he's just being difficult.  Argh.  There's a test I took that diagnosed gluten sensitivity in 2014 via Entero Labs, and am planning on having done again.  Truth be told, I'm hoping it's the bromine/additives/preservatives as I miss breads and pastas terribly when home here in the states!  Be well and here's to our guts healing ❤️

Lol that’s so true! Hope you get clarity, it’s tough when there’s doubt. There’s so much known about celiac disease with all the scientific research that’s been done so far yet practically and clinically there’s also so much unknown, still. Out of curiosity what’s her dairy consumption like? Even compared to early years to now? Has that changed? Calcium is dependent in the mechanism of antigen presenting cells in the gut. High calcium foods with gluten grains can initiate inflammation greater.  This is why breakfast cereals and milk combo long term can be a ticking time bomb for genetically susceptible celiacs (not a scientific statement by any means but my current personal opinion based on reasoning at present). Milk and wheat are the top culprits for food sensitivity. Especially in childhood. There are also patient cases of antibodies normalising in celiac children who had milk protein intolerance/ delayed type allergy. Some asymptomatic. There were a couple of cases of suspected celiacs that turned out to have milk protein intolerance that normalised antibodies on a gluten containing diet. Then there were others that only normalised antibodies once gluten and milk was eliminated. Milk kept the antibodies positive. Celiac disease is complicated to say the least.

And thank you for your encouragement. I am glad that her body is doing a good job fighting it. I also just want clarity for her moving forwards. She was only 6 for the last round of testing and she's 10 now, so I'm also hoping that makes a difference. It was weird during her last round of testing though, because right before her biopsy, we'd upped her gluten intake by giving her biscuits made from straight up vital wheat gluten, and her labs actually normalized slightly (lower ttg and her ema went negative). Bodies just do weird things sometimes! lol
    • deanna1ynne
The first negative biopsy in 2021 just said "no pathological change" for all the samples, and the second one in 2022 said "Duodenal mucosa with mild reactive change (focal foveolar metaplasia) and preserved villous architecture." So I think Marsh score 0 in both cases, though it's not actually written in the pathology reports. I'm really hoping to get a clear positive result this time, just for her sake.

Hopefully the biopsy gives a conclusive and correct diagnosis for your daughter. Im in the UK and have been in the situation a few years ago of trying to rule celiac in or out after inconclusive results. Many symptoms pointing to it including the classic symptoms and weight loss and folate and iron deficiency. You have to play a waiting game. I also had the label of IBS and likely food allergy. Genetic test showed low risk for celiac but not no risk. It sounds like the Gastroenterologist is on it and hopefully will diagnose what it is correctly. Food hypersensitivity (allergy) can also cause similar symptoms and inflammation as well as mimicking IBS. Milk / dairy and wheat (cereal grains) being the biggest culprits. The “oesophagitis” and “gastritis” you mentioned can be caused by another gastrointestinal disorder called “eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders”. These are named depending on which part of the gastrointestinal tract is affected. For example eosinophilic oesophagitis, eosinophilic gastritis, eosinophilic gastroenteritis, and more rare eosinophilic colitis. They are antigen (allergen) driven. When the blood test measuring anti-ttg antibodies is positive in absence of a positive ema test - which is more specific to celiac, this can also suggest food hypersensitivity (allergy). Usually delayed type allergy similar to celiac but not autoimmune if that makes sense. In this case the ttg antibodies are transient. Which happens. I’ve first hand experience. For info, evidence of villous atrophy too can be caused by food hypersensitivity. Not just by celiac disease. In Egid disorders the six food elimination diet, under a dietitian and gastroenterologist care, is the dietary protocol to figure out the culprit or culprits. Sometimes only two food elimination diet is used at first. The number one culprit is milk protein / dairy. Followed by wheat, eggs, soy, fish and seafood, and nuts. Most are only reactive to one food group or two. Most are only reactive to milk. Hope this is a helpful reply.
