Streuth, Psills, this is not psilly at all. 7.4 earthquake 20 miles from Christchurch, NZ, my city "over the hill":o

All power is out, the central city is closed down because of rubble in the streets, continuous aftershocks - no word about our place  Sun is just coming up - happened at 4:00 a.m. No reports of injuries yet but oodles of damage!

More later.

I is still in Nevada, Em. Still don't know much except apparently no casualties or major injuries, lots of cracked bridges and motorway onramps, broken water and sewer lines, all hospitals operational, still no power so no word from my housesitter. Although I did find this in the newspaper about our 'local':

"Historic Godley House has suffered very serious damage. Owner Richard Hawes said he thought he was going to die as he was on the second floor of the 130-year-old homestead and when it "wobbled like a jelly''. The building now has cracks from the foundation upwards with many windows out and a large hole in a wall."

Of course it would have no earthquake proofing, but is about a mile from us at most, so that means it was definitely "felt" in Diamond Harbour

I just read that Diamond Harbour is cut off by a 50 metre slip on the road; fortunately, we have a ferry service across to Lyttelton :D

Thanks. Looks like I might have some shopping to do when I get home: :P (from the Christchurch Press)

"Press arts editor Christopher Moore said he was thrown out of bed by the shake. Moore, who lives in Diamond Harbour, said every piece of crockery was broken and book thrown to the floor. A heavy, carved Victorian wall clock, had swung about a foot in each direction and a heavy, enamel Kent fire was ejected half way across the bedroom floor. Moore said it felt "much worse'' than the Inangahua earthquake of 1968 - also a magnitude 7.1. " It was savage, terrifying, horrible."

Of course, a lot of the homes in Diamond Harbour were formerly what are known as baches or cribs (poorly constructed holiday shacks which have been modernized and added on to. I don't know where Christopher lives

(It would take a bit to move our Tulikivi stove, though - that sucker weighs about two tonnes  )

I leave to hang banners at the footbal stadium, tailgate and watch J's high school game and look what happens! A big honking earthquake at Shroomie's other house! I hope the house sitter is OK cause that's gonna be one angry Kitty.

Natural disasters are befalling Psillys. Hurricanes, wild fires & earthquakes. Us Midwest Psillys better keep a sharp eye out for tornados ( that is one of the main ones we are missing).

Well you Mid western folks better keep your eyes peeled to the sky cause looks like those tornados are all that's missing for sure.

Well, I did notice the lateness(earliness) of the hour . . . you were up 4:45 my time. I shoulda got outta bed and chatted with you, Judee as I was awake at that time . . . just a tossin' anda turnin' . . . and tossin' . . . and turnin'

Headed out to go birding this morning!!! Trying to get Skeeter to join me on one of these treks but she keeps declining. She'd be really good at it. She's forced to listen along in the car when I'm playing my "Birding by Ear" c.d.'s (helps with the identification, you know). I would hazard that she's better at it than I am. Chidlins don't have all the tatt cluttering up their minds like mental grocery lists, appts, stuff I need to gossip about, and errands to run.

This sounds like quite a collection of C/Ds, Jyaghnutt. .. . . . .... . it would be excellent to put one of them on our living room player when DD has five of her girlfriends over, lolling about on various pieces of furniture. "Hey, c'mon, guys - - let's try to dance to this!"

Their faces:

:huh: :huh: <_<:mellow::unsure::o

The last face is Sophie's, her classic look of brazen, embarrassed horror. . . . . .. ...

My dad was a consummate mimic of human and animal voices. He perfected the calls and whistles of several birds, and created one that sounded like it may have come from a strange, extinct parrot or hawk. Through the years he slowly drove our neighboUrs behind us out of their minds, as he would stand at the back fence and make this quiet, trilling whistle. We'd hear old Mr. Lyndski scrambling out his back door.... ."Margaret! There it is! Get the tape recorder! We need to call the news channel, send somebody out there!"

Dad would wait a day or two, then hide out there and whistle again, somehow throwing his voice up to the huge elm that bordered our properties. I would see from my upstairs bedroom window a flurry of activity as Mrs. Lyndski rushed about for the big binoculors, Mr. Lyndski throwing back curtains, yelling excitedly. . .. ... . ....

I have often wondered if my dad's bizarre, yet somehow very credible whistle made it onto any birding soundtracks. Jyaghnutt, if there is a crazy, prehistoric call on that C/D that is stumping you birding identifiers, we may know from where it came... . ... ..particularly if there is follow-up commentary from a Mr. Lyndski...

Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗
    • nanny marley
I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
