Em. Has she moved to be near you yet?

She arrived last weekend. Is staying at my BIL's house, and bought herself a condo two days ago.

ANNNNNNNNNND........

It is NOT blocks away from our house, as she originally wanted -- she was actually looking at places right around the corner........... It is about a fifteen-minute drive away.

Well, allowing for near-misses of buses and all the stopping to a) check on side-swept bicyclists and b ) exchange insurance information with rear-ended motorists ahead of her, maybe twenty minutes.

Hello Dear Psilllies,

I wanted to share my vacation with you since my return on Sunday. Back from NJ and boy did we ever need that trip! Over a 4 day period I held court (like the queen bee) saw over 15 friends spread out over various days, meals and times. Rob had the same situation with all of his friends. We started our vacation by attending a lovely 4th of July BBQ/Block Party in RI. Our 1st stop in NJ was a meal with friends who were gluten-free and it was marvelous. Our phriends came from all over NJ, Pa., and NY to see us. Superman really needed a break from caregiving and on Friday and Saturday we were apart. I took the car Friday and held court at my favorite mall (Princeton Market Faire) as my friends came in shifts and stayed in various combinations. I made a new friend (I complimented her bright cheery outfit and how put together she was - I like to compliment as many people as I can each day) and she will join us for a get together next year when we return. I spent Saturday with my old therapist who's become a dear phriend while Superman went to see Roger Waters and the Wall with a high school friend. I spent the night with her, I shopped til I dropped, ate at my phavoriite restaurants, went to a gluten-free store and bought a lot of products they don't have in RI. The temperature was hideous - 110 and humid. Getting in and out of cars was torturous.

Rob went for coffee with Sandy (old therapist I spent day and night with Sat.) while I packed and on the ride home he told me that they discussed how my identity has become my illnesses. I decided to change that immediately and next week my sweet Selia (girl I tutor) is coming over with her mom and two siblings. It won't be an official tutoring session (though I told her to bring a new book to read to me). We'll have a treasure hunt in my basement and we'l do crafts, go through my library of books I give to Selia (I have age appropriate books for her siblings) and we'll do some beading. I'll give them "treasures" as Tony used to call my beads and craft projects when he was little.

Today I start seeing doctors again. I never went to the doctor or ER when I took the nasty fall over Memorial weekend (too bruised and didn't want Rob scrutinized plus I'm sick of hospitals and doctors). I have some lesions that aren't healing but thank God they aren't shingles. Each doctor I called to see was annoyed that I waited to see them but I didn't want to go out until my bruises healed. I was also sick of doctor appointments. I'll be seeing my specialists over the next few weeks. Before vacation my PCP sent me to a pain management group (I thought I was going to have my pain meds increased - my pain level is a constant 9) but it turned out to be another orthopedic doctor. I already have one so yesterday I scheduled an appointment to see him and cancelled my follow up with the new doctor I saw. The one bad thing that happened during our trip was that I slipped in the shower and hit my head. That will probably be MRI'd or CT-scanned.

The long ride home (at one point there was rubber necking on our side due to a 10 car pile up in the other direction) afforded Rob and I a chance to talk about where we are today and how we feel about it. I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason (though you might not find out why until further down the road). I had lost sight of it. We discussed how he has come to terms with his lay-off. He's making the stock market a full time job and loves it. He's studied it, watches Cramer (the hyper active man on MSNBC). If he continues to do well he wants to pay off our mortgage. Years ago he played with Margin and greed caused him to lose a lot (though we got two cars and several trips out of it so it wasn't a total loss). He learned a hard lesson and is extremely cautious now.He just needs to keep us going for 5 years and then he can retire and collect his pension from Wyeth (the company Pfizer bought).

Phew - I just realized how much I wrote and hope I didn't burn a hole in your eyes. I'm going to shower and get ready for my appointment with my therapist today. She split from the group she was working through and instead of being 20 minutes away is now an hour. I don't want to change therapists again - I really pheel a connection with her so I want to look up where her practice is and phind some interesting sights en route. I'm going to alternate phone sessions with office visits so I'll only have to make the trip to see her once a month.

I apologize for the length of this but I'v been offline so long I wanted to bring you up to speed. I hope you are all doing well - physically and mentally. I've missed you all and love you very much.

P.S. phor anyone new to this forum or thread. My DH's name is Rob but he's Superman (I'm Lois Lane) in most of my posts. He really showed his super powers when he saved my life in January.

Hi Lo:). Thanks for the update on you. Best of luck at your appointments-- sounds like you are in a good place emotionally. Keep us posted.

Princeton Market Faire is one of my favs! We always stopped at the Starbucks there when we lived in North Jersey and were coming down here. Plus it has Pottery Barn which I adore. Did you eat at the PF Changs there?

Shroooooo-meeeeeeeee......

Just remembered--my son (a car buff) went to a big car show in PA over the weekend and met a man who had come all the way from NZ. When he told me, I said--I wonder if he knows Shroomie? :D:unsure:

Patteigh, whenever I am in a Starbucks, or even pass one by, I always think of you and Mark, as this is where we all met in Philly and I know that you guys have a special Starbucks-thing, wherever you are..... B):)

Well, of course he does, although you didn't mention his name. As I am told every time I turn around, "We are such a small country" (excuses for why they don't have anything in stock :P ) that everyone knows absolutely everybody. He would know me by lots of names, but not Shroomie

I must add a funny.

Husband comes in from walking the dog and walked past a library chest where we house lots of useful and insignificant stuff and upon which, the router sits.

He walked by this chest and stopped. Paused. And then comes and get me. "LISA THE ROUTER IS FARTING". I asked if a tree limb hit him on his head during his walk. "No, really" and insisted that I come hear.

Indeed there was farting and lots of it, in rapid succession.

I look at his curious face and start cracking up. I pulled open one of the top small drawers. In that drawer, lives a fart machine, which we keep for simple minded adults (all of us) and nine year old grandchildren. Apparently, the battery was dying and it was giving it's last GASp.

Okay....well, you had to be there. Lesson learned...Routers don't fart. Husbands know farts when they hear one, even from strange sources. And women always know the source.

Twice - Yummy!!!!!!! And bought a house gift at Pottery Barn and clothes at Chico's, Black & White, and Anthropologie. I'd say I was a very bad girl but I had saved up my "Stash Cash" (my mother didn't work until later in life and when I quit my TV job to be a stay at home mom she told me to always take something from my food budget and stash it away - smart lady).

Love,

I was referred to a real pain management center in New Haven by my therapist. Sick of having new doctors think I'm a drug addict. My PCP prescribes oxy but extremely low dose. Rush Limbaugh ruined it for people who really need the meds. OK, no time or need for a soapbox. Will let you know what they do. Of course I probably won't get an appointment until September but I'm optimistic. Off to movies tonight. Saw Spiderman yesterday (much better than I expected) and Superman's indulging me with Rock of Ages tonight. I do need to keep on moving and living regardless of how much pain I'm in.

Love,

Loey

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.

Your experience is both shocking and critically important for the community to hear, underscoring the terrifying reality that cross-contamination can extend into the most unexpected and invasive medical devices. It is absolutely devastating that you had to endure six months of sickness and ultimately sustain permanent vision loss because a doctor dismissed your legitimate, life-altering condition. Your relentless research and advocacy, from discovering the gluten in MMA acrylic to finding a compassionate prosthodontist, is a testament to your strength in a system that often fails celiac patients. While the scientific and medical consensus is that gluten cannot be absorbed through the skin or eyes (as the molecules are too large to pass through these barriers), your story highlights a terrifying gray area: what about a substance *permanently implanted inside the body*, where it could potentially shed microparticles or cause a localized immune reaction? Your powerful warning about acrylic lenses and the drastic difference with the silicone alternative is invaluable information. Thank you for sharing your harrowing journey and the specific, severe neurological symptoms you endure; it is a stark reminder that celiac is a systemic disease, and your advocacy is undoubtedly saving others from similar trauma.

I am so sorry you're going through this bad experience--it's difficult when your own lived reality of cause and effect is dismissed by the very professionals meant to help you. You are absolutely right—your violent physical reactions are not "what you think," but undeniable data points, and it's a form of medical gaslighting to be told otherwise, especially when you have a positive HLA-DQ2 gene and a clear clinical picture. Since your current "celiac specialist" is not addressing the core issue or your related conditions like SIBO and chronic fatigue, it may be time for a strategic pivot. Instead of trying to "reprove" your celiac disease to unwilling ears, consider seeking out a new gastroenterologist or functional medicine doctor, and frame the conversation around managing the complications of a confirmed gluten-free diet for celiac disease. Go in and say, "I have celiac disease, am strictly gluten-free, but I am still suffering from these specific complications: SIBO, chronic fatigue, dermatological issues, and high blood pressure linked to pain. I need a partner to help me address these related conditions." This shifts the focus from a debate about your diagnosis to a collaborative plan for your current suffering, which is the help you truly need and deserve to work toward bouncing back.

Hello, no I had to have them re done and then used a liner over the top.  Many dentists are not aware of the celiac effects.  Best of luck.   There is other material, yet, very expensive.
