It is Good Friday. My SIL said on the book,

Good Friday? Heck, it's an Excellent Friday!

So, it is Good Friday, and this year it falls during Passover. Will I go straight to H*ll if I eat a bacon double cheeseburger?

Manda, it is good to hear that John is rid if his stones. His GALL stones, you psilly! -_-

Emily, good news about the Wildcats, and about your dad, too. Pass the wine. ;)

We went to a show this afternoon about pets. It is an annual event here on the Easter weekend. Admission is $12 for an adult. We stayed maybe an hour tops. It is getting less impressive each year. The good news is that we had complimentary passes from a pet food manufacturer. We would have been rather annoyed if we had actually paid $24 for the experience.

I absolutely LOVE that wackl site.......esp. the WTF section - - but it's soooooo mean that I try not to look at it often

Gardens are greening, spring bulbs looking beautiful. I love all of the flowering trees throughout the area! Just lovely! Seeing the "babies" peeking up out of the ground is better than Christmas for me! I go for daily tours of my yard to see who's coming up. Better yet....I forget that I've planted some things, so I get surprises from me to me! (I'll bet I could have a blast with old-timers disease, huh?)

Hope you all have a wonder Easter weekend. Eat lots of chocolate....just short of getting sick on it

:) it sounds quite phun back there! I don't have many garden surprises here....

chocolate...........me mum IS making that wicked chocolate pie - - I am out of my mind that I have to wait until Sunday..........

Hey, where's Em? is she quite pissed yet?

Okey dokey.

Plan for the day:

Shop - coffee maker died. desperately need new one. Will check out clothing deals at same time.

Home store - get piles of dirt for new garden bed. Get insulation and some sort of stapling device to put it up with. Get long cord for dryer.

Costco - I have no idea. Just going there because it's near all the other stores.

Petstore - "MOM!!!!! We want the JUICY kind!! MOM!!! MOM!!! MOM!!!! MOM!!" repeat ad infinitum....

Guess I'll have to dump the dirt into the bed as well. And maybe get some tomato plants (which will live indoors for a while).

Plan for Sunday:

Stay in bed all day

Hey, Psills!

Great night last night, and LATE. Seven of us were in the ho'tub for much too long, passing around a bottle of champagne.

Felt a wee bit ill after that.. . . . . ... <_<

Another funeral under me belt . .. .......

Many of us are freezing, n'est-ce pas? Here it is bright, gorgeous sun, but only 8 C. Chilly. My tulips wanna come up!

Amanda! We wait to hear about John. So many stones! :o You could make yerself quite the necklace. . . . ....

Another big, fattening dinner tonight with family. Not weighing myself until June.

Nathan is home!......with his entourage......me, his dad, his wife, and mother-in-law.

Gaaawwd........hate that 2 1/2 hour drive. Will have to go back to Houston Sun nite. Nathan has to go back for blood tests early Mon morning and Brian gets stitches/staples out also. Then I fly back home on Tues. I hate to leave, but I think I need it.

Had a little pitty party for myself today.......smelling orange rolls baking for breakfast for everyone but me. They got Sonic Burgers last night.....and Easter dinner will be tabu for me. :( ........Desserts every night. It's so much easier when I'm in my own environment that I can control. Most of the time I'm not bothered by all the things I can't eat, but I've never had it shoved in my face to this extreme. I know they are just trying to fix all of Nathan's favorite things.

Anywhoo.......I'm feeling a little better, now.......just caught up on the last 5 psilly pages.......does a heart good! :)

sills :( I am impossibly tired and will get to that in a minute........

these are all the quotes I wanted to reply to on which I wanted to reply but....

this is my laziest post ever.......as you can see I am putting all the quotes in and not even sayin' nuttin about them

just simply quoting them and nowt energy or time to really say what I wanted ta say.....

Um.....let's jsut say this - -

I really can not sleep - ever - EVER - without the use of certain drugs (and I come by this honestly - both on mom AND dad's sides) - it's horrifying....so I have run out of one drug (seroquel - must go pick it up THIS INSTANT) and decided to take a sample of Lunesta. Have done taht before and I did sleep soundly but.....I think I took Seroquel WITH it. (um - I can take enough drugs to knock out a horse and pretty much multi-task all night long, with heart pounding heavily and hard in my chest) :( )

so - took the Lunesta (3 mg., standard dose) at 11..........waited three hours, reading, watching Oprah, infomercials, etc  wide awake, took a second one at 2. Um........still wide awake at 4, I took a lorazepam.

so.........yeah......slept maybe 30 minutes and then at 8 am I took a Klonepin, hoping to just freaking sleep until 11 or summat.

Which I kind of did, but it was not good or solid as Kit kept meowing outside the door.

But now, I have never felt MORE like rubbish (oh that is SO not true, because, in the days before any sleep drugs, I have gone three, four, and one time as many as FIVE ENTIRE DAYS :( without sleep - nearly died, I think, and was almost checked in), and my heart is finding great effort to pound inside my chest, and I"m out of breath........... 'tis miserable.

and - I have to go run a bunch of errands for tomorrow's brunch (despite Janie's worried protesting) and.....I just don't think I should be operating heavy machinery. :( am dizzy and crazed.................

so that's my report.

I am psychotic from it.

BUT I LOVE YOU GUYS and.........

HAPPY EASTER TO ALL MY SILLS and the SILLS of SILLS

more later - unless I die, pass out, or am arrested

Yes, you are right. Indeed, I’ve been feeling anemic since the beginning of this week, and today I felt horrible during a lecture at the university, I was trembling a lot and felt all my body incredibly heavy, so I had to come back home. I’ll do a blood test tomorrow, but I’m just worried about the possibility of it coming back negative. I’ve been eating two cookies in the morning as my only source of gluten over the past two weeks—could that affect the final result?
    • trents
Welcome to the forum, @Judy M! Yes, he definitely needs to continue eating gluten until the day of the endoscopy. Not sure why the GI doc advised otherwise but it was a bum steer.  Celiac disease has a genetic component but also an "epigenetic" component. Let me explain. There are two main genes that have been identified as providing the "potential" to develop "active" celiac disease. We know them as HLA-DQ 2.5 (aka, HLA-DQ 2) and HLA-DQ8. Without one or both of these genes it is highly unlikely that a person will develop celiac disease at some point in their life. About 40% of the general population carry one or both of these two genes but only about 1% of the population develops active celiac disease. Thus, possessing the genetic potential for celiac disease is far less than deterministic. Most who have the potential never develop the disease. In order for the potential to develop celiac disease to turn into active celiac disease, some triggering stress event or events must "turn on" the latent genes. This triggering stress event can be a viral infection, some other medical event, or even prolonged psychological/emotional trauma. This part of the equation is difficult to quantify but this is the epigenetic dimension of the disease. Epigenetics has to do with the influence that environmental factors and things not coded into the DNA itself have to do in "turning on" susceptible genes. And this is why celiac disease can develop at any stage of life. Celiac disease is an autoimmune condition (not a food allergy) that causes inflammation in the lining of the small bowel. The ingestion of gluten causes the body to attack the cells of this lining which, over time, damages and destroys them, impairing the body's ability to absorb nutrients since this is the part of the intestinal track responsible for nutrient absorption and also causing numerous other food sensitivities such as dairy/lactose intolerance. There is another gluten-related disorder known as NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just, "gluten sensitivity") that is not autoimmune in nature and which does not damage the small bowel lining. However, NCGS shares many of the same symptoms with celiac disease such as gas, bloating, and diarrhea. It is also much more common than celiac disease. There is no test for NCGS so, because they share common symptoms, celiac disease must first be ruled out through formal testing for celiac disease. This is where your husband is right now. It should also be said that some experts believe NCGS can transition into celiac disease. I hope this helps.

My husband has had lactose intolerance for his entire life (he's 68 yo).  So, he's used to gastro issues. But for the past year he's been experiencing bouts of diarrhea that last for hours.  He finally went to his gastroenterologist ... several blood tests ruled out other maladies, but his celiac results are suspect.  He is scheduled for an endoscopy and colonoscopy in 2 weeks.  He was told to eat "gluten free" until the tests!!!  I, and he know nothing about this "diet" much less how to navigate his in daily life!! The more I read, the more my head is spinning.  So I guess I have 2 questions.  First, I read on this website that prior to testing, eat gluten so as not to compromise the testing!  Is that true? His primary care doctor told him to eat gluten free prior to testing!  I'm so confused.  Second, I read that celiac disease is genetic or caused by other ways such as surgery.  No family history but Gall bladder removal 7 years ago, maybe?  But how in God's name does something like this crop up and now is so awful he can't go a day without worrying.  He still works in Manhattan and considers himself lucky if he gets there without incident!  Advice from those who know would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've done an excellent job of meticulously tracking the rash's unpredictable behavior, from its symmetrical spread and stubborn scabbing to the potential triggers you've identified, like the asthma medication and dietary changes. It's particularly telling that the rash seems to flare with wheat consumption, even though your initial blood test was negative—as you've noted, being off wheat before a test can sometimes lead to a false negative, and your description of the other symptoms—joint pain, brain fog, stomach issues—is very compelling. The symmetry of the rash is a crucial detail that often points toward an internal cause, such as an autoimmune response or a systemic reaction, rather than just an external irritant like a plant or mites. I hope your doctor tomorrow takes the time to listen carefully to all of this evidence you've gathered and works with you to find some real answers and effective relief. Don't be discouraged if the rash fluctuates; your detailed history is the most valuable tool you have for getting an accurate diagnosis.

In this case the beer is excellent, but for those who are super sensitive it is likely better to go the full gluten-free beer route. Lakefront Brewery (another sponsor!) has good gluten-free beer made without any gluten ingredients.
