Jestgar Rising Star

I have accomplished my 'to-do' list for the day:

1.) Get dressed..................check

Everything else that gets done is just bonus, right?

shadowicewolf Proficient

You're farther along then i am. I'm not planning on getting dressed lol.

So, i'm thinking of making that cake thingy today, however i have no toothpicks to check for doneness. Could i use a knife or something like that instead?

Jestgar Rising Star

butter knife works well. Also check the edges, they should be kinda pulling away from the pan. Middle part should spring back when you touch it lightly.

Too funny - I remember thinking why would someone have a bust as their profile pic when I was a newbie - don't think I ventured into the funny pages back then or maybe I would have got it -- I don't think I've seen the one I vaguely remember, but maybe it was Jestgar's kitty -- keep 'em coming -- thanks for the giggles :)

Hey MindWarp, so what's the deal on the 21 units? Have you taken such high load before?

I don't know if I remember anyone finishing a semester w/ that many. Maybe your system is different, but you did say semesters, not quarters. (Learned long ago to not compare my sems w/ others' qtrs)

Loved my Astronomy classes to the point I almost majored in it.

Has meandering Psillyville's Memory Lane skipped The Snow Poodles? :o

And really . ....doesn't "digital pack rat" describe everyone who's owned a computer?

So glad this really happened.

(unsure if this is directed at me  )

Eh, i need to take 3 semsesters with 21 credits (7 3 hour classes per week) in order to graduate by the spring of 2014. Generally we're only allowed to take 18. This semester i'm taking 19, so its not that big of a jump.

At any rate, my cake plan is canceled at the moment. I feel a bad cold comming on and i had a coughing fit whilst i was cleaning up the kitchen (had a few things left out, etc)

tom Contributor

Lol oops sorry Shadow (& MW), I should've read back . . .. .this surfing on a phone stuff sometimes leads me to skip such steps. Or maybe this time it's the forum january molassesness.

Anyway ... .ahhhh keeping on schedule for grad & good to hear it's only a 2 credit jump.

What will your degree be in?

No big deal :)

Ah, i'm getting two degrees one in history and one in anthropology.

tom Contributor

Ooh a cool double! My anthro course would've been for non-majors, but it was fantastically interesting & a pretty popular course to boot.

I remember smiling at the time when I found I wouldn't have to take History of Western Civ after all, since all I'd ever heard was complaints about it, but in hindsight I know it would've been good for me to take back then.

Funny how confused so much of America is on what a socialist regime actually looks like.

I am in grad school, where 6-9 credits is considered a full load. I do have 3 undergrad degrees and I recall taking 19 credits more then once... but could not imagine that now! Struggle to keep up with 6! Might have something to do with not being a 19 year old bachelor any more...

shadowicewolf Proficient

Indeed.

Last semester i was taking 12 credits (all online courses) then i jump to 19 and i have less homework in these then i did in those O.O

I managed to string out my university years to 11, wonderful days, but you'd not catch me doing it again now! It just took me 3 years to get round to a 13 000 word imformal assignment... I get the smartphone issue :o :o :o :o :o

SIW

Sounds fun if hard work :) I did a load of anthropology in amoungst social science ane media stuff. I love the methodology side. Good luck, sounds like you've got a handle on it.

No, it just happens once in a while. We call it tumbleweeds.

shadowicewolf Proficient

11 years? eeeeek i couldn't do that.

Celiac Mindwarp Community Regular

You dont have to, luckily SIW! I never quite finished the postgrad studies in the end, got distracted by lecturing.

Ah, tumbleweeds huh? Thanks for that. Not sure about the rest of the stuff there, but slightly intregued where the daisy dukes thing was headed...

VydorScope Proficient

11 years? eeeeek i couldn't do that.

I started college in 1992... still in college. No serious time off (semester here or there when moving/etc). But I have 3 undergrad and almost done with 2 masters. I am planning on stopping in December 2013 when graduate... again.

Hi all !! Did anyone ever get prescribed methylprednisone steroids for inflammation of stomach and intestines?  Did it work ??  Thank you !!
    • cristiana
Hi Colleen Are you supplementing B12/having injections? I have learned recently that sometimes when you start addressing a B12 deficiency, it can temporarily make your symptoms worse.  But it is important not to stop the treatment.  Regarding your problems with anxiety, again that is another symptom of a B12 deficiency.   I didn't know what anxiety was until it hit me like a train several months before gastrointestinal issues began, so I can certainly relate.   Two books which helped me hugely were At Last A Life by Paul David (there is a website you can look up) and The Depression Cure: The Six-Step Programme to Beat Depression Without Drugs by Dr Steve Llardi.  Although his book is aimed at people who have depression, following the principals he sets out was so helpful in lessening my anxiety.  Llardi suggests we need to focus on getting enough: - physical exercise - omega-3 fatty acids - natural sunlight exposure - restorative sleep - social connectedness - meaningful, engaging activity   ... and we should feel a lot better. That is not to stay you must stop taking medication for depression or anxiety if you have been prescribed it, but adopting the changes Dr Llardi sets out in the book should really help. Can I just ask two more questions:  1) you say that you are B12 deficient, did they test your iron levels too?  If not, you really ought to be checked for deficiency and, 2) did they check your thyroid function, as an overactive thyroid can be cause rapid heartbeat and a lot of coeliacs have thyroid issues? Hello still dancing around my celiac disease and not getting medically backed up considering Ive been glutenfree since 1994.All my ailments are the core issue of my ghost disease aka celiac disease. Im angery because the "celiac specialist " basically lightly dismissed me.Im extremely angery and fighting for a new primary care physician which is hard to do in Northern Cali.So currently without and looking.Im angery that its lightly taken when its extremely serious to the one who has it.My only evidence is a brochure back in the days when I got news letters when I lived at my parents. It was published in 1998.I was diagnosed before any foods eliminated from my diet. Angery doctors don't take seriously when Im clearly speaking.I did write to the medicine of congress and have case number.

I totally get this. It's absolutely a grieving process, and it's okay to feel gutted about the loss of those simple joys, especially at 18. Your feelings are completely valid—it's not about being ungrateful for your amazing boyfriend, it's about mourning the life you thought you'd have. That "tortured by the smell" feeling is so real. It does get easier, I promise, but it's okay to sit in the sadness and just vent about how much it stings right now. Thanks for sharing that. Celiac.com has published a book on our site by Jean Duane PhD called Gluten-Centric Culture, which covers many of the social aspects of having celiac disease: This chapter in particular covers issues around eating with family and others - Gluten-Centric Culture: Chapter 5 - Grabbing A Bite Together:
