Hell's Bells.

Now I posted this for Nikki . . . but it brings up a question. Emily, is your poodle boy, Gus, somewhat 'effeminate'?

Actually, my Gus is, upon SOBER reflection, :P somewhat...dandyish. He certainly prances about with a swishing tail and has beautifully coiffed curls. Picturing these qualities in a human male, one immediately thinks effeminate to the extreme. Great. Now I will be foreveer thinking of my big dog's endearing goofiness as nauseating, Victorian dandy-type sappiness..:lol:

But hey....He is a poodle...

Their alpacas were very curious. Would get in your face to sniff you but if you reached out to try to pet them, they would scoot away . . . fast!

Sounds like a great family outing, Janet...you lucked in! This alpaca behavior you have described peaked my interest. I wonder if our yeti shares some DNA with these creatures, as he is doing exactly this! Gets in your face to sniff you, but scoots away fast when you reach out.

He may be picking up some...undesirable...behavior from my animals, and it's probably time for him to go elsewhere. I've caught him doing the cat massage thing on several surfaces (now there's a clip for youtube), and he's been...prancing a bit. And there's quite a production when the mailman comes....poor man. Time to ship yeti off, methinks...

Alpaca's are so neat, did you see any with two different colored eyes?... so cute and you're right, curious too!

Gaaahhh....really? Well, perhaps there is alpaca DNA in my DH, as he has a blue eye and a hazel/brown eye...He is rather curious. Now, I must think--does he get in my face to sniff me? Hmmmmm.....

Just pooping in real quick- still haven't finished catching up here. Not going to even try anywhere else on the board. I've realized that I have NO time for ANYthing when the kids are home on vacation.

BTW, today is Luke's birthday! My baby is 7 years old today, how is it possible?????????

Sabrina's crappy mom- BAD

Peanut Butter- GOOD :D

Banging Pots- Never heard that one, but I'm gonna do it next year!

Various illnesses- BAD :( I hope everyone feels better soon.

Chunk of Poop on a Hotel Mattress- Oh so very BAD!!!

The weather's been in the teens the past several nights, and not getting above freezing during the day. Yet we have no snow, and that is BAD. If I'm gonna freeze my arse off, I want to at least be sledding down a hill.

That would also describe my bird ... he's very beautiful ... and he preens all the time ... he loves being told how pretty he is ....

A male poodle ... poor thing .... I'm sure he wishes he were another breed.

Hello hello Sillyville!! :)

Things are finally getting back to normal around here.

This 2BR apt is NOT made for 4 residents. Roommate John's mom left yesterday and daughter heads out later today.

So . .. .what'd I miss?????

Janet & Carla!!!

Carla & Janet!!!!

Woohooo to the in-person meeting!!

I know where your problem happened, Susie...you exhibited dignity. In this retail situation, one must act somewhat beaten. Not desparate, just at the end of one's rope, with all self-respect teetering...

Offering to sleep with one of the straight, male clerks could yield results quickly, as well...

Um, hallOOOOOOOO, don't you think I volunteered to sleep with ALL THREE of them? Shyah, that's the first thing I did, silly.

no no, not too much dignity, there was more than a hint of panicked desperation about me......

OMG! Emily, has it occurred to you that your MIL might just HATE musicals???? Not kidding....God forbid, if I had to sit through Mama Mia, I'd need: a FULL flask; some jewelry-making supplies and a good light to see by (by which to see); a soft pillow and a blankie for my nap; AND my Ipod.

*snigger*

Seriously - - for me to sit through Mama Mia, Jersey Boys, Hairspray, any of those......

PURE

COMPLETE

SEEMINGLY ENDLESS

CACAPHONIC

MIND-BOGGLING

TORTURE.

another one of those sentences found only in Sillyville.......AND one to stump the hoi palloi who pop in at their own risk..........

OMG - my ipod died, did I already tell you guys this? that's right - IT DIED ALSO. so, I went to the Mac store, he diagnoses the problem (dead battery) and tells me I have to go to the APPLE store in this HIDEOUS mall TO WHICH I NEVER GO. Thank gawd, the ipod IS still under warranty.........we can only hope they'll replace it..........

No problem, I say, I"ll just go over there now.....and hten he says that I need an APPOINTMENT  to go into the store and have my ipod looked at. That's right, even if you walk into a COMPLETELY EMPTY STORE, they will not deal with your sick Ipod.

What the hell???????????

So, he made an appt. for me ONLINE (the only way you can do this, but who knew), and I am so profoundly grateful, because I would have been one SPITTING mad dingy had I driven there, searched for parking, walked all the way into the mall and then been rejected.......

So now, I am goign to write a letter to whoever's in charge at Apple (Steve Jobs?) complaining about this horribly incompetent, inconvenient, and user-hostile arrangement.

;)

forgot everything else.

HI SILLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Susie-

My IPOD is acting up, it won't take any music from my computer...the IPOD screen keeps saying connecting....very frustrating as I have new songs I want to transfer over :)

CarlaB Enthusiast

Susie, you can make appts. in the store, too. But you might not get an immediate appt., they take them in the order people make them. (We have three Macs, four iPods, and two iPhones, so that's how I know this, lol). It's actually a good system ... you don't have to stand around and wait in LINE all day!!!

DINGO DREAMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, absolutely!! Wow, the information I've garnered on these incredible animals makes me truly wish that Gus were one.. Susie, you've never mentioned that your breed is an accomplished tree-climber...and has no dew-claws, chooses a mate for life and will often mourn itself to death over the loss of its partner.

Tree-climbing!! Gad, my dog just pees on them...

What an unusual, astonishing animal!! Who'd a thunk??!

 eeeeeeeeeeee-villlllllllllllllle!!!!!!!!!!!!

*sigh* how I long for the days when......we left the house in the morning and came home at dark, weeds in our hair and happy scrapes on our knees from our savagery......you had ONE TV and it just plugged in the wall, w/ rabbit ear antennae - the children were the remotes. The phone rang, you didn't know who was calling, and you answered it......and only if you were home could people speak to you......and there was a hideous stereo cabinet, with vinyl records.............and there were these things called LIBRARIES where you went to get your information..........

It's just all so bloomin' complicated now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am SO a Luddite!

Dingos are fabulous.........Tika actually, in her thin-ness, looks very much like one....but it is Annie who climbs trees. Stinker, of course, was a phenomenal mountain-goat/climber in her day - - did some really astonishing things...........

Now we are all just slovenly, lazy hags

BTW you do know, dear Emily, that my girls aren't REALLY dingos........ they just sort of look like them, and have cattle dog/kelpie tendencies..........<oh dear, have I shattered all the illusions now? am I a fraud? But can I please stay? I like it here>

((Nodding slowly, rubbing chin))....Something I've long suspected ;) ...as true dingoes would be an impossible find in an American shelter (the girls were rescues, were they not?). But Susie, the way you describe their climbing, they could well have a bit of the Aussie wild dog in them, as no other breeds are known to tackle trees. Not so fraudulent, methinketh...:lol:

What you’re describing really does not read like typical IBS-D. The dramatic, rapid normalization of stool frequency and form after removing wheat, along with improved tolerance of legumes and plant foods, is a classic pattern seen in gluten-driven disease rather than functional IBS. IBS usually worsens with fiber and beans, not improves. The fact that you carry HLA-DQ2.2 means celiac disease is absolutely possible, even if it’s less common than DQ2.5, and many people with DQ2.2 present later and are under-diagnosed. Your hesitation to reintroduce gluten is completely understandable — quality of life matters — and many people in your position choose to remain strictly gluten-free and treat it as medically necessary even without formal biopsy confirmation. If and when you’re ready, a physician can help you weigh options like limited gluten challenge, serology history, or documentation as “probable celiac.” What’s clear is that this wasn’t just random IBS — you identified the trigger, and your body has been very consistent in its response.

oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.
    • trents
Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.
    • trents
Under the circumstances, your decision to have the testing done on day 14 sounds very reasonable. But I think by now you know for certain that you either have celiac disease or NCGS and either way you absolutely need to eliminate gluten from your diet. I don't think you have to have an official diagnosis of celiac disease to leverage gluten free service in hospitals or institutional care and I'm guessing your physician would be willing to grant you a diagnosis of gluten sensitivity (NCGS) even if your celiac testing comes up negative. Also, you need to be aware that oats (even gluten free oats) is a common cross reactor in the celiac community. Oat protein (avenin) is similar to gluten. You might want to look at some other gluten free hot  breakfast cereal alternatives.
