Hey everybody- sorry I've been MIA. I've been sort of battling a sinus infection since Thanksgiving, and it's been kicking my ass. This week has been awful- migraine type headaches, and the fatigue has been just ridiculous. I can't stay awake! I've been having to sit down and take a darn break while I'm grocery shopping. So I finally called the doc today. Yeah I know. That might've been a good idea a month ago, but who has money for the doctor around the holidays!?

Anyhow, the kids are doing great. The changes in Ezra have been dramatic. He's been gluten-free since October, and he's not had a rage or meltdown in a month. He's not having accidents anymore. He's participating and focusing more at school. Only one bad thing- His chronic cough, while it's decreased in frequency, is still there. We still don't know why.

How is everybody doing???

Sorry about the sinus infection--those are awful. Did you get an appointment?

Great news about Ezra!! Wow--he really is doing so much better--I'll bet even the cough will go away with a little more time.

I'm doing fine--but, evidently I talk too much and have put the state of PA into a bit of a pickle (fluidly speking, of course)

I need a platform - a way to do this....get the word out.....I feel AWFUL that so many are needlessly suffering mental ills and wretched depression and.....if they only knew.....or would listen.......

I'm totally with you, Susie. I have SUCH a colossal message to communicate to all people with mental health issues, and particularly those with kids who are struggling with such, that goes something like, "Stop gluten consumption, then stand back and watch what happens!"

I haven't talked much at all about my son Jack, the boy who is now a new kid after going gluten-free about four months ago. Tested negative, but wanted to try the diet anyway. Incredible. No more explosive anger and uncontrollable frustration, a newfound ability to focus and concentrate at school, a whole new world of high marks at school...

I wanna shout it from the rooftops. And so does he!

Okay, I have something embarrassing to admit. My name is Alex and I'm 24 and all signs are pointing to me being an adult - I'm engaged, I have a house (and a mortgage ), and I only sometimes watch cartoons - but I am a BIG FAT SCAREDY CAT!!!!!! I was still alone this evening (having sent Mr. Yeti on his way to visit the scouts in California) and the power was out and the wind was blowing and I got myself all worked up and for a second I was sure that I saw a peeping Tom creeping around my window. Why, why, why do I have to have such an active imagination? It gets me in all sorts of trouble.

Fiance is home now and all is good except I feel like a loser!! Is there any hope for me?

I hear you guys on the gluten / mental health issues.....

My own sister has been in and out of the hospital several times in the past year due to depression. It's taken over her life, and I feel very strongly that gluten is the reason.

I have done everything within my power to try and get her tested. It's been on my mind constantly for months and I feel so helpless. I can't believe that people can just dismiss something like this out of hand....she's on several meds, and they're not working.

She eats, but is painfully thin--so thin she could not walk into the hospital without help last winter. She's anemic, too. I have sent studies copied from Pub Med, information from other respected sites, my own personal medical information--including my DQ2 genes.....I've called, written letters, tried to enlist my mother to intervene for me. Her husband refuses to believe this could be at the root of her problems--but nothing else is working and I say--why not look into this. What have they got to lose at this point?

I just know if she were to go gluten-free, she would most likely get better. She did see an alternate practioner a few years ago--and when she was following his protocol (including no gluten) she felt the best she had ever felt. She was a real estate broker, now she sits in her apartment all day.

Sorry for the rant, guys.....this just mkes me so mad.

Mickey here refers to putting something in a person's drink to drug them for nefarious purposes--as in "slipped him a mickey". I've never heard of 2-4.

I actually could identify with a couple things on your list, so at least I have a place to go if Pennsylvania decides it's had enough of me and my fluids.

Hey sillies, I'm still around. My portable is still acting up, but I have determined a definite pattern to the problems and will be talking to the service tech again on Monday.

I hear you guys on the gluten / mental health issues.....

My brother has had some mental health issues that I believe were triggered by our mom's sudden death. I never would have thought of him going gluten-free to improve his mental health if I hadn't gotten Celiac and come to this forum and saw what people were saying about gluten and mental/emotional issues. But thanks to this forum (and especially to Susie) I decided to help my brother go gluten-free. He's not 100% gluten-free but mostly and although he is still on medication for Bipolar II he is doing much better. This Christmas with my dad and brother was the best it has been in . . . well 6 years.

My brother has been helped by you guys who put the idea in my head that he should go gluten-free. I know it's only one person, by it's huge to me. Every person you give the idea about gluten has the potential to use the info and maybe get better and to become a gluten prophet themselves. It would be a lot easier if people would listen to and believe us! But I just wanted to say that these ideas have helped a very important person to me and as I result I too will insist on telling anyone in a similar situation to just try going gluten-free and see what happens. Jeez, how hard is it to at least try it. You think that people would be happy to try something as relatively simple as a diet change when they are sick with no answers or sad without help of medication.

That is such great news about your brother! I'm so glad that he was willing to listen to you and at least give the diet try.

It's a shame that so many people who could benefit from going gluten-free would never consider something so simple (but not always easy) as a diet change. Why that is so threatening, I don't know. When I found out that gluten had caused me to be ill for so many years, I couldn't cut it out of my life fast enough.

I guess we're all different and have to do things in our own time.

Susie is a wonderful and generous person--she even offered to speak to my sister about all of this--but unfortunately, my sister is not nearly ready to face up to the facts. Thank goodness your brother was, and now your family is able to enjoy some happy times together.

Well, I am always SO encouraged to hear the reports of mental health progress!!!!!! Emily, your son, Alex, your brother........but Patti - - SO sorry about your sister and sheesh, why DOESN"T she give gluten removal a try? I just don't get it........I'm sorry to hear she's not getting better but not at all surprised - she can probably no longer absorb her meds at all.

Gail is back w/ our lattes. we watched 3:10 to Yuma last night - quite a good western, I must say. Christian Bale/Russel Crowe - MASSIVE HOTTIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and here's something......I felt terrible malaise all last night.....bouts of D.....and then, later last night - TWO fire hydrant - not kidding - diarrhea explosions.......just like the cleanout when you have to drink the potion for your colonoscopy.

No idea why. definitely not gluten-related - perhaps a bug up me arse?
