Susie!....How can this be?? I am truly flummoxed by this....I laugh heartily all the way through, and marvel at what I hear as clever, multi-layered timing and humour.

And sometimes Seinfeldian - like in Cell Phone, when it turns out Lacey's 'Save the Silo' campaign backfires in that the new cell tower was to go there. :)

On a related note - I saw part of the Monk pilot the other day & . ... ..Hank was in it!!!!!!

Of course, wearing a hat, but it was a newsboy cap or whatever, backwards.

He was killed :ph34r: and a car accident faked but it didn't fool Adrian. ;)

Wow, I leave for a few hours for a home cooked birthday meal and some DVD watching and I'm behind 4 pages. You were all in Phine Phunny Phorm this evening! We watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding and The Princess Bride-- two perennial favourite feel good movies. I must remember to pay Ryan back by watching some Batman movies on his birthday! ;)

Everything sounds great, Alex! Your guys are taking such good care of you :)

Can I just say how happy I am to see you so happy and doing so well! :D:D

I know, I'm so blessed with my family and my Ryan. Don't know what I'd do without them!

And thank-you! I'm so much better in mind, body, and spirit than I was on my last birthday and exponentially better than I was 18 or so months ago. Sometimes I forget how sick I was and how fortunate I was to have been diagnosed so quickly. I try to remember to be grateful, grateful, grateful!

I knew I'd find Alex here. I've come to wish her a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Wish you great wishes to come true, sweet girl! ;)

My dad loves Corner Gas! I bought him one of the seasons on DVD for Christmas. I usually watch it but I'm kind of just meh about it. It does make me laugh quite consistently but I don't think that I have the appreciation like you guys and my dad have for the show.

And all of this talk about reading and book clubs, I must admit that I hardly ever read. It is bad and sad and I feel that I should be ashamed about it. It was good in high school when I had to read certain books for English class because I ended up loving a couple of the books -- The Great Gatsby and To Kill a Mockingbird. But I am not good at picking books for myself. I am always afraid I won't like the book. And there are just too many books to choose from -- I walk into Chapters and I get overwhelmed and just scurry to the CDs and DVDs! Does anyone have a good book recommendation for me? :unsure:

Susie, what did you hate about it? Was it just bad?

I watched the movie when it first came out (great actors, critical acclaim, yada, yada, yada...) and WHOARGH, it completely traumatized me, ya'll. I cried through most of the movie, and then pretty much cried all night. :blink:

Morning Sillies!!!!!

Its going to be one of those days.....so I probably won't be around much. One of our nurses wont be in another is off....and there are a lot of patients and work so we will be giving the nurses a hand....its crazy!

Well, today's the day of Mom's dr appt. She gets her stitches out from the biopsy, and we should get the results. I've been looking at pictures of different types of skin cancer on the net this morning, and haven't seen anything that looks like what Mom has. But I also looked at pics of actinic keratosis, which is supposedly what the original biopsy showed two years ago, and it also looks nothing like any of those pictures.

ALL the pictures I looked at either looked like 1) a rash of varying colors; or 2) a gross oozing, crusty growth. Mom's thing is just a slightly raised discolored (pinkish) area, that looks a little dry.

In other words, I'm utterly confused, and this is exactly why I have NOT let myself search internet pictures before, up till now. Will update later.

Did you go to Tesco, Nikki? I was quite impressed with this chain when we were shopping in London....except that there wasn't a jar of peanut butter to be found there... ..and there were several inebriated customers stumbling along the aisles, trying to read labels and count out change at the cash. It was indeed fascinating......well, for us goofy tourists, anyways..... <_<:rolleyes:

I had one that looked exactly like that on my hand. I couldn't find a similar pic either, so I waited---thought maybe it was eczema. Finally went to the doc......he thought it looked pre-cancerous. Did a biopsy.....it was basal cell carcinoma-----that's not as serious as a lot of other skin cancers. When he did the biopsy he took off the whole thing, so nothing more needed to be done. It's been fine. A couple years later I found a similar one on my shoulder.......it was negative. Either way, I'm sure your mom will be fine.

This is quite a humourous sentence ...... ... ..sounds vaguely..... .. ..naughty? Who'll be in the room wif you whilst you do this, Patti? :lol: You could perhaps arrange to have yer....*ahem*...handyman/plumber over to help with that edging an' rolling.... :rolleyes::lol:

As a girl who is quite fond of food and eating, I know it's bad when it gets to the point where everything sounds yucky to eat, just the thought of eating gets a big "Ughhhh!"

I love HGTV :wub: You didn't happen to see House Hunters last night, did you? The couple who bought a house trailer on a boat slip in Florida for $520k :o Half a million...I couldn't believe it.

I digress... :lol: It's a nice, conservative tan-ish/khakki color with white trim. Very clean and neat :)

I love HGTV too, I watch it phrequently :lol: , but no, I was actually watching Top Chef reunion last night on Bravo so I missed House Hunters.

I think you will like the tan-ish kahki with white trim. All my walls here and ceiling are painted a very creamy mocha color, think coffee with cream, kind of a camel if you will, with crisp white trim. Everything just pops against it in a room. Art work and pictures on the wall look stunning.

      how much gluten do I need to eat before blood tests?

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after eating them. If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back...

      IBS-D vs Celiac

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @SilkieFairy! You could also have NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity) as opposed to celiac disease. They share many of the same symptoms, especially the GI ones. There is no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out.

      Under the circumstances, your decision to have the testing done on day 14 sounds very reasonable. But I think by now you know for certain that you either have celiac disease or NCGS and either way you absolutely need to eliminate gluten from your diet. I don't think you have to have an official diagnosis of celiac disease to leverage gluten free service in...

      After the birth of my daughter nearly 6 years ago, my stools changed. They became thin if they happened to be solid (which was rare) but most of the time it was Bristol #6 (very loose and 6-8x a day). I was on various medications and put it down to that. A few years later I went on this strict "fruit and meat" diet where I just ate meat, fruit, and squash...

      learned I had a high PTH level in 2022 suspected to be due to low vit D got my vit D level up a bit but still have high PTH I am 70 yrs old (today in fact) I am looking for someone who also has hyperparathyroidism that might be caused by malabsorption

      oh that's interesting... it's hard to say for sure but it has *seemed* like oats might be causing me some vague issues in the past few months. It's odd that I never really connect specific symptoms to foods, it's more of an all over feeling of unwellness after  eating them.  If it happens a few times after eating the same foods- I cut back or avoid them. for this reason I avoid dairy and eggs.  So far this has worked well for me.  oh, I have some of Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal and I love it! it's hard to find but I will be looking for more.  for the next few weeks I'm going to be concentrating on whole fresh fruits and veggies and beans and nuts and seeds. I'll have to find out if grains are truly necessary in our diet. I buy brown rice pasta but only eat that maybe once a month at most. Never liked quinoa. And all the other exotic sounding grains seem to be time consuming to prepare. Something to look at later. I love beans and to me they provide the heft and calories that make me feel full for a lot longer than a big bowl of broccoli or other veggies. I can't even tolerate the plant milks right now.  I have reached out to the endo for guidance regarding calcium intake - she wants me to consume 1000mgs from food daily and I'm not able to get to more than 600mgs right now.  not supposed to use a supplement until after my next round of testing for hyperparathyroidism.   thanks again- you seem to know quite a bit about celiac.

I don't think you have to have an official diagnosis of celiac disease to leverage gluten free service in hospitals or institutional care and I'm guessing your physician would be willing to grant you a diagnosis of gluten sensitivity (NCGS) even if your celiac testing comes up negative. Also, you need to be aware that oats (even gluten free oats) is a common cross reactor in the celiac community. Oat protein (avenin) is similar to gluten. You might want to look at some other gluten free hot  breakfast cereal alternatives.

A few years later I went on this strict "fruit and meat" diet where I just ate meat, fruit, and squash vegetables. I noticed my stools were suddenly formed, if a bit narrow. I knew then that the diarrhea was probably food related not medication related. I tried following the fodmap diet but honestly it was just too complicated, I just lived with pooping 8x a day and wondering how I'd ever get and keep a job once my children were in school.  This past December I got my yearly bloodwork and my triglycerides were high. I looked into Dr. William Davis (wheat belly author) and he recommended going off wheat and other grains. This is the first time in my life I was reading labels to make sure there was no wheat. Within 2 weeks, not only were my stools formed and firm but I was only pooping twice a day, beautiful formed Bristol #4.  Dr. Davis allows some legumes, so I went ahead and added red lentils and beans. Nervous that the diarrhea would come back if I had IBS-D. Not only did it not come back, it just made my stools even bigger and beautiful. Still formed just with a lot more width and bulk. I've also been eating a lot of plant food like tofu, mushrooms, bell peppers, hummus etc which I thought was the cause of my diarrhea before and still, my stools are formed. In January I ran a genetics test because I knew you had to have the genes for celiac. The report came back with  DQ 2.2 plus other markers that I guess are necessary in order for it to be possible to have celiac. Apparently DQ 2.2 is the "rarer" kind but based on my report it's genetically possible for me to have celiac.  I know the next step is to bring gluten back so I can get testing but I am just not wanting to do that. After suffering with diarrhea for years I can't bring myself to do it right now. So that is where I am!
