Happy Sunday all!! I'm on a roll, three days of feeling good! My hubby said today when we were at Wild Oats that it was obvious I was feeling better because I was dragging him around and trying to get him to hurry up when I had been just following him around like a puppy for the past couple months.

I really enjoyed my piece of donut and cup of coffee!

Susan, glad the Bulldogs lost.

I live in the Buckeye state!

Tavi, I miss Morgan, too. :(

Hope everyone is feeling great today!

Where's Richard ... his wife must be feeling better. ;)

Vincent, make your son clean up his own pee. Don't stress too much ... not many kids go to kindergarten with diapers on!

Celia, glad Publix is carrying more for you!!

Hi to everyone else!

I cannot recommend it highly enough!! I truly think that even with other health issues, it would help literally everyone. We all push ourselves way harder than our bodies are designed for and though I don't think it's a cure-all for everyone, I certainly think it would help everyone get better faster while they address their other ailments as well -- for me, no gluten or dairy (or legumes, it seems).

I realize that I was relying on exercise, caffeine and sugar to stimulate my adrenal glands just to get by. It was very tempting the past couple weeks to just drink a cup of coffee, or do a strenuous workout, just to have the temporary boost, but I realized I need to fix this problem for real. It would definately mean no more nuggets for you ... unless it's the chicken ones.

My face has been breaking out like mad lately

My face is breaking out too, I don't know what is going on. It was clear as clear could be and then I started using Bare Minerals make-up. After that, it started to break ou, and now it's all broken out. I have since stopped using the make-up, and I have tried to eliminate all kinds of things, one by one, trying to get to the source but no such luck. :(

Susie, glad you got your revenge yesterday

I'm excited and nervous all in one, my 2 favorite teams, Chargers and Steelers, are playing each other TONIGHT!!!! Yikes!

Have a good Sunday everyone!

Yea, after a few weeks you could do as I do and treat yourself to ONE on Sunday. When you're feeling better, I think willpower is easier to come by ... I allow myself only a piece of a gluten-free donut ... I certainly don't want to fall into my old habits and feel like garbage again.

I am not the one stressing. My wife is.. and the husband reading this know how hard on us that is!

I was so thrilled that I didn't have to drive 1/2 hours away... when I went to check out, the cashier looked at my stuff and said... "wow... you eat healthy is that how you stay so skinny?".... ... I said "no, I have Celiac Disease and eating this way is helping me gain my weight back."... and she says... "My husband has diabetes too"......:lol: .... I just smiled... she was trying to be sweet.

:lol::lol:

Sounds like her hearing is about like mine. :P

From Mitch: If you would have told her your name, she probably would have called you Sally or Sue, or...

Welp I survied my 4th class! (as a teacher!) This time I got a great review from my teacher (I am officaly an ast teacher, basicly in training so when I teach he watches and reviews). PHEW! You know when I was younger I thought teachers had it made... man was I wrong! The amount of work I put in to a single lesson is more then I ever did in homework!

It is fun though warping the minds of Americans for my personal use...err I mean helping ppl learn and grow, yea thats it!

Just tell your wife, he's not ready, try again in three months. It's not worth the stress ... really. It's easy to teach them when they're ready, it's impossible when they're not! I had one I had to do this with, when we tried again in a couple months, it was easy.

Glad your class went well. I worked with college students ... fortunately, I wrote down what I taught and could reuse it with other groups. The lesson there -- keep your notes!!

Juliem, Broncobucs is going to be at the game tonight - on the Steelers side. A friend of his, who plays for the Steelers, sent him tickets. So, Broncobucs drove from Tempe, AZ today for the game and will drive home to Las Vegas tomorrow (I think that is what he said).

No, I did not meet him for lunch yesterday as I had put in a very rough night on Friday and had to cancel. Which really urked me. It is hard to get my hubby to drive 1 1/2 hrs round trip for pizza and here he was willing to do that yesterday. The pizza at Picazzo's pizza is so very good and I will now have to wait a few more months to get there again.

Oh, don't ask who Broncobucs Steeler friend is. He told me when I asked, but I am not a sports person and so it flew right out of my pea brain. I would assume that his friend went to Ohio State University as Chris did.

How fabulous for him!!! There are a couple of players on the Steelers that played for Ohio State, lucky guy to have a connection and to be at the game.

I will be at home watching the game, nervous, ulceritic conditions going on in the stomach

Where's Richard ... his wife must be feeling better. ;)

What, no girls on trampolines?

I'm happy to report that the "old lady", er little missus is feeling better. She's at her over 30 soccer game tonite. The kids are in bed, so I get to play for a few minutes!

Weird weekend....First the whole getaway that wasn't, then brawling over which fridge to buy (I won :) ), then the Yankees lose to the Tigers  , then no romantic evening (see who won the fridge :( ), then I wake up at 3:00 and I'm having an asthma attack and can't get back to sleep, then MAry gets up and sleeps in Maddys' bed (kids at g'mas house) because all my tossing and turning is keeping her up  , THEN I go to order the fridge and have a HUGE FIASCO at Home Depot (I HATE that store! ), then we go off and have a nice family day at the local historic saw mill, then I go to change the oil in the car when I come home, and get the oil drained, go to fill it up again, and I can't get the filler cap off...turns out the cap WON"T COME OFF if the oil/engine is HOT - for my SAFETY (NOT MY SANITY) ...an hr and a half into a 15 minute oil change the cap magically comes loose, then I'm reading a story to Olivia (4yo ) when I hear a thud and a bump and the wailing of my 2 yo (Maddy) I thought she had put herself to bed (wishful thinking!) instead she was in her room emptying a tube of KY Jelly (we can talk about that heree :) ) on herself, her dresser, her wall, her bed and her carpet. Thank GOD it was KY and not Vaseline or something else greasy! I just got that cleaned up and Olivia went to sleep (ANGEL  ) and Maddy was right behind her.

Aside from that my weekend has been VERY uneventful :P

So when do the girls on trampolines start?

Richard.....:lol::lol::lol::lol: oh dear gawd....this doesn't sound like the best weekend ever, and sorry about the KY, yes, good thing it was not a petroleum-based accident....I think what you're supposed to do is....light the hair of a Barbie on fire, and then.....run around the new refrigerator.....:lol::P

Couldn't have been too bad of a weekend if the KY was out where a kiddo could find it! ;)

You might consider asking for a referral to a RD (Registered Dietician) to help with food choices and planning a diet. Even apart from any gluten issues, you will likely find there are some foods you need to avoid because of the shorter bowel but you may also find that your system may make adjustments over time and that symptoms may improve.
    • Ello
I wish Dr’s would have these discussions with their patients. So frustrating but will continue to do research. Absolutely love this website. I will post any updates on my testing and results.  Thank you

Losing 12" of your small bowel is going to present challenges for you in nutritional uptake because you are losing a significant amount of nutritional absorption surface area. You will need to focus on consuming foods that are nutritionally dense and also probably look at some good supplements. If indeed you are having issues with gluten you will need to educate yourself as to how gluten is hidden in the food supply. There's more to it than just avoiding the major sources of gluten like bread and pasta. It is hidden in so many things you would never expect to find it in like canned tomato soup and soy sauce just to name a few. It can be in pills and medications.  Also, your "yellow diarrhea, constipation and bloating" though these are classic signs of a gluten disorder, could also be related to the post surgical shorter length of your small bowel causing incomplete processing/digestion of food.
    • Ello
Yes this information helps. I will continue to be pro active with this issues I am having. More testing to be done. Thank you so much for your response.
    • trents
There are two gluten-related disorders that share many of the same symptoms but differ in nature from each other. One is known as celiac disease or "gluten intolerance". By nature, it is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the ingestion of gluten triggers the body to attack it's own tissues, specifically the lining of the small bowel. This attack causes inflammation and produces antibodies that can be detected in the blood by specific tests like the TTG-IGA test you had. Over time, if gluten is not withheld, this inflammation can cause severe damage to the lining of the small bowel and even result in nutrient deficiency related health issues since the small bowel lining is organ where all the nutrition found in our food is absorbed.  The other is NCGS (Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity or just "gluten sensitivity") which we know less about and are unsure of the exact mechanism of action. It is not an autoimmune disorder and unlike celiac disease it does not damage the lining of the small bowel, though, like celiac disease, it can cause GI distress and it can also do other kinds of damage to the body. It is thought to be more common than celiac disease. Currently, we cannot test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out to arrive at a diagnosis of NCGS. Both disorders require elimination of gluten from the diet.  Either of these disorders can find their onset at any stage of life. We know that celiac disease has a genetic component but the genes are inactive until awakened by some stress event. About 40% of the general population has the genetic potential to develop celiac disease but only about 1% develop active celiac disease. The incidence of NCGS is thought to be considerably higher. I hope this helps.
