Do I Have Celiac

Hello, I am brand new to this forum. I have been ill with anemia, fatigue, joint aches and IBS for over 12 years. My doctors did multiple blood tests and then diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. I work a full day, but am always fatigued and ready to go back to bed. My joints ache all the time and my back is very bad.

I recently went to Utah on Business and got Elevation sickness. Due to this, I didn't eat for 2 days and I felt GREAT???? I thought, why would I feel this good with no food and naseau? I started to read on food allergies and it seems Celiac hits every one of my symptoms. I have had no tests yet, but have already started eating Gluten Free and do feel better already....

I'm hoping Finally that I found out what is wrong with me....can anyone see my symptoms being aligned with Celiac Disease? My jaw and face finally feel at rest. before I was always clenching my teeth during the day and at night....I'm scared this another diagnosis that will go by the weigh side????

Welcome!

If you want to go through the testing you need to keep eating gluten. This is VERY important. It does sound like it's quite possible, especially given your dietary response. Dietary response is a valid diagnostic tool, so if you want to stay gluten-free and feeling better, then just do it. If you want testing done, go back to eating gluten again immediately!! Keep in mind, the tests are well-known for having false negatives and there are many of us around here who were diagnosed by dietary response.

Hi Dennymel - I would get checked for Celiac - it sounds very possible. What caught my interest is you say your face hurts? I have the same thing - thought it was a side effect from antidepressants but maybe not? Very interesting......hope you feel better soon!

Yes, I am also on anti-depressants-Paxil 20mg. So it could be that. But I'm still on them and eating gluten free and my teeth and jaws do feel a bit better....might be something.

To get diagnosed with the blood test or endoscopy, you would need to go back on gluten before being

tested. The other alternative is genetic testing. Since celiac is a hereditary disease, there are certain

genetic indicators that are common amonng people with celiac. I know there are mail order testing sites

doing the genetic tests, and some hospitals, like Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, that do the test.

If you want an official diagnosis, but don't want to go back to eating gluten, the best alternative would be testing through Open Original Shared Link. It will still be accurate up to a year after giving up gluten. It is also more sensitive than the current mainstream testing.

You have the very same symptoms I've had for most of my life. Unfortunately, I've found out that I am intolerant to a lot more than just gluten. But giving up all those foods is worth it to not need heavy duty painkillers like codeine any more.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
