Hi,

I've been scavenging for restaurant ideas for my visit to New Orleans next week. My gal pals are also diet conscious (one's borderline diabetic) and they want to go to HerbSaint on St. Charles. Anyone eaten there?

As far as gluten free recommendations I have so far:

NOLA

Acme Oyster House

Emeril's

Red Fish Grill

Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm from New Orleans and I'm thinking hard.

A good resturant, slightly expensive, hard to get into, but doesn't take reservations is Galatoirs. Not sure how gluten free they are but have handled other dietary needs in the past.

The problem is alot a new orleans food depends heavily on bread pasta, bread crumbs, french bread.

When do you need this info by and what area are you staying in? Will you have car access? The area and car access I can give you a few more not immediatley in the city.

Also which Emrils? There are several and I'm not sure whioh ones if any have reopened since Katrina.

OK, got a hold of the list my dad's doctor gave him. May or may not be 100% accurate, but it's what others have said.

Also Court of Two SIsters is known for attempting to accodomate any dietary needs. They can't promise, but often call you back once you call them to try and take care of any needs.

Dessert- Aunt Sally's Pralines in the French Quater right outside the French Market are terrific. Mayde or brown sugar, vanilla and pecans. (pretty sure they have a sugar free one)

If Commander's Palace has reopened the food is incredible and they know about gluten.

It was heavily damaged by the hurricane, though.

No Commander's Palace has not opened.

Also, bring snacks for late night snacking. There is no such thing as the late hours, like most fast food and stores are. The 24 hour Wal-MArt Supercenter closes at 11 (that's progress). Most of the city business, nationwide chains or not close by 9. Finding a fast food place open past 8 is hard.

So, where did you go? I'm about to go to New Orleans for 5 days, and I'm gluten/dairy/soy-free. I'm staying at Canal & Bourbon, and I won't have a car. So - any recommendations? Where did you get reliably gluten-free hush puppies? I'd LOVE some of those!
