I have seen lettuce in the toilet recently. Has anyone else experienced this? What's the deal?

TIA

It is not uncommon, roughage is very hard to digest. If you are new to healing, it may pass through fairly quickly.

:)

Celiacs have the most interesting stool on the planet. Keep reading the message boards, this is not uncommon...

mine has had all sorts of funky things in it...somethings I don't even remember eating AT ALL...

This is all a learning process. To be frank: (who is frank, anyways??, frank, who?)

Sometimes within 12-24 hours, I can see what I ate. (got the drift?)

Sometimes is see what I remember as normal (can't identify)...that's a good thing.

When you see what you consumed, back off of that and go back to the basics, rice, fish, meat, veggies and other simple foods.

When I was sick, it took about 20 minutes for the entire meal to pass, totally undigested. With no villi, my lunch went slip slidding away. "Slip-Sliddin-Away"... Great song, I may add. I think it should be our theme song.

What about semi-transparent (usually same color as the yellow stool) things that look like lettuce type leaves, but you haven't eaten lettuce in a while?

Anyone seen that?

chocolatelover Contributor

I just had to post this morning. Always had a problem with not digesting certain foods (corn, for example), but never lettuce. Until today! Last night's dinner was there--including the lettuce. I have been eating lots of gluten to prepare for the endoscopy, and I swear things are getting worse the more gluten I eat. I can't wait to go off of it again and see what happens to my body!

With celiacs it's not only roughage. It's pretty much everything. The reason is, because your intestines can't actually process the food, because they are damaged. I had that, too, when I wasn't diagnosed yet. It disappeared after a few weeks already on the glutenfree diet. Now I have a real normal stool, unless I get glutened by accident. The only thing that shows up undigested NOW sometimes is salad actually. Not always, though.

Hugs, Stef

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
