Good Doctor

I have had stomach problems for the past 15 years, they began right around the time I was diagnosed with hypothryrodism. I have had many tests with doctors here in N. Virginia and have always been told that it must be IBS. After investigating Celiac disease I believe it may not be IBS but Celiac. I would like to find a doctor who deals with Celiac and not just a regular Gastro. Does anyone have a good doctor in the N. Va area? Thank you

I live in NoVa and do not have a GI here (dx'ed before moving here).

However, one of the BEST, BEST, BEST Celiac experts is at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. His name is Dr. Alessio Fasano. His website is www.celiaccenter.org. I would recommend calling his Celiac Clinic and setting up an appointment there. You can read more about him and his research on this site.

Open Original Shared Link is the site for phone numbers.

Best of luck.

DEFINITELY not Plotner. He examined me once and said IBS, with no tests! didn't address the GERD, either.

Crenshaw wasn't bad, but he's not really informed. He did a single place biopsy and decided I didn't have it. No blood tests. When I went back for a repeat colonoscopy I said i had celiac, he said "but your biopsy was negative (he never told me he did one when he did the endo for hiatal hernia and GERD)" I just told him that all my symptoms went away when I went gluten-free so I didn't care. He had the sense not to argue.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.

To evaluate the TTG antibody result we’d need to know the normal range for that lab.  Labs don’t all use the same units.  However, based on any normal ranges that I’ve seen and the listed result being greater than a number rather than a specific number, I’d say yes, that is high! Higher than the range where the test can give a quantitative result. You got good advice not to change your diet yet.  If you went gluten free your intestines would start to heal, confusing any further testing,
