Baby Names

Ok, so I'm pretty sure we're having a boy, we'll hopefully find out in a few weeks at my last ultrasound. If it's a girl I'm naming her Annika Emily. We're undecided on a boy's name. I'm kind of leaning towards Gunther Henry after our grandparents. Is that a cruel name for a child? Any additional suggestions would really be appreciated. We really can't make up our minds.

A-

Throw in some more family names.

What does Annika mean, a family member? Gunther Henry may be a too grand name for a young child, but I can see "Gunner" as he grows. I knew one, and a very nice young man.

My girls:

Catherine Miles, (Catherine was random, Miles, after hubby's middle name - after grandfather)

Ann Lloyd ( Anne, my middle name, Lloyd after hubby's father's middle name)

In the south, girls can have names like Blake, Simpson, Ellis, Ellison.....Last names are often first here.

But, it's kind of cool to carry on, if not the last, but the first.

OR.. How about "Gulhia"....for a boy, nah

I really like Annika Emily. Emily is one of the names John and I have decided on as a girls name we both like.

I too think Gunther might be too grand a name. Is there any other names you have in mind for boys?

Nantzie Collaborator

"Gunny" is what my dad was called when he was a Gunnery Sergeant in the Marine Corps. It's a common term of endearment, tempered with respect, that people of that rank are called. Kinda like "Sarge" for Sergeant.

I think Gunny would be a cute nickname for a Gunther.

Oh, please! Do not worry about names these days. I have met a Kelby, a Montana, a Dakota, a Tanner, a Blaze, a Blaise, a Blade, a Nyree, a Ronnae, a Tilly... Choose a name you enjoy and don't think twice about it. That Gwennyth Paltrow named her baby Apple! That Julia Roberts named her children Phinneus and something else quite exotic. Angelina Jolie.... If I have to walk past one more magazine cover with Maddox, Shilo, Zahara and whatever new Pitts they come up with... You'd better come up with an interesting name. They're all the rage!

Adelle Enthusiast

I happen to looove unique names. I've only met 1 other Adelle in my life (substitute teacher). I love my name. Ryan (my hubby) always had a billion other Ryan's in class etc. He hated it!! Gunther is such a cute name! And abt julia roberts' kid... Ryan is so attached to the name Phinneaus, he's trying to persuade me to name our 1st boy that!

Pick a name u love and always check the initials (I once knew a P.E.W. He never lived it down!)! Congrats btw!

Good grief, this is a nice topic. I think all that salad is making you grumpy. :P:D

Oh, how fun to be thinking of baby names!! My kids both have family names as their middle names. I agree that Gunther Henry does sound a bit big for a little guy. But, I really think that "Gunny" is cute. Are there any other names that might tie in better? You could also call him Henry.

Guhlia Rising Star

If we named him Gunther, we would call him Gunn or Gunny for a nickname. We have a very German last name, Guhl (pronounced ghoul, like the halloween type), so it's hard to find a good combination. I like the way Gunther sounds with Guhl.

I'm set on Annika for the girl. I want to call her Annie when she's little, then she can grow into Nikki, Nika, or Annika when she gets older. I think it sounds regal. I'm pretty sure it's a boy though. We'll find out at the ultrsound in a few weeks hopefully. There are just too many good boys names to choose from.

Here's our current list of possibilities:

Avery

Beckett (Beck)

Benjamin (Ben)

Dominick (Dom or Nick)

Donovan (Van) - my husband's name is Donald

Gavin

Cooper

Maxton (Max)

Olson (Ollie)

Oliver (Ollie)

Owen

Parker

Spencer

Trenton (Trent)

Trevor

Wilson (Will)

Zane

Decatur (Deke) - after our favorite street in New Orleans

Denton (Denny)

Dexter (Dex)

Silas

Grayson (Gray)

Mason (Mace)

Shane

Clayton (Clay)

Weston (Wes)

Carter

Noah

Garrett

Samson (Sam, Sammy)

Tobyn (Toby)

Xavier (Xavi)

Maddox (Max)

Russell (Russ)

Coleman (Cole)

Ryder

I know, I know, a lot of names, right? We just can't narrow it down from these. That's why we were considering going with the family name, Gunther (my late grandmother's maiden name, she was an artist), Henry (my husband's late grandfather) - Gunther Henry Guhl.

Angie,

Whatever name you and your husband decide on will be perfect! :D I had my children back in the dark ages, before ultrasound was widely used. I "knew" they were boys, too. I just knew ;)

The first was easy--we named him after his two grandfathers. With the second, we finally whittled it down to two names, and didn't actually make the final decision until we saw him!

If you do have a girl, I love the name you picked. Annika is very nice. :) My niece/Goddaughter's name is Emily.

Donovan is such a cute name!

You name your child whatever sounds good to you. As someone one mentioned we live in a day where kids have all kinds of names. You no longer have to worry about your child being the only kid with an odd name in class. And your names aren't odd at all. I'm also into family names. I've always disliked my full name, but was ok with it because I was named after my aunt.

Both my girls have family names Robin Carol: My dad Robert, and Carol is both the grandma's name. Michaela Jo: My hubby's middle name is Michael and of course my name is Jo.

My kids love knowing that they are named for people that they know and love. They have a lot of pride about their names.

I love Garrett, that was our boy name for Michaela (my husband is Gary) unless he had red hair (runs in my family). I wasn't going to have a Garrett the Carrot. I was also going to use Rowland, it was a great great grandmothers maiden name and was passed down to my grandfather. I just love the history.

I also agree with watching the initials, as well as how the name sounds with the last. We had a pastor who's last name was Ness. His wife had to stay away from A and P names. :P

Also don't worry about the name sounding too big on your baby, you'd be surprised how much you will identify with your baby by their name. It was hard for me to use a short name for my girls for the first couple of years, and I have talked to several friends who felt the same way. I now call them Robbi and Mac, but it took awhile.

It took me awhile to figure out the above...I must be thinking with my mind out of the gutter for once ;)

We've been really watching initials. Luckily, middle name selection will be the only issue. Like GAG, BAG, SAG, FAG... We just need to mostly stay away from middle names that start with vowels.

Amanda, if we name him Donovan, it will be Donovan Axel. Then he can share Don's initials, DAG.

I'm really open to suggestions because we just can't narrow things down.

Momma Goose... Guhlia Guhl?!?!?! Now that would be an interesting name! :)

Angie,

I looked over your list. I like Trevor, but this is only my opinion. I am sure whatever name you choose it will be wonderful, just like the baby.

:) :) I think my husband would probably strangle me if I named our kid that. :) :)

Hi!

I love the names you've picked! We have twins, a boy and a girl. We had so much trouble coming up with a girl name but there are sooo many great boy names. Then in a hormonal moment I was in the grocery store check out and Camryn Manheim was on the cover of TV guide and viola, our daughter, Camryn Reed Adams was named. Reed is her grandmother's maiden name (whose first name was Cathryn, so it was close).

As for our son, I thought it was a moment of sheer genious: Stratton Clark Adams. Stratton was after a dear family friend who passed away (last name Stratton, Strats for short) and Clark after the other grandmother's maiden name. You have to be careful however about announcing names before the baby is born because then you will get unsolicited opinions that can ruin it for you. People thought we were completely nuts naming him Stratton and unfortunately shared their thoughts with us - but we are glad we did!

Then a few weeks ago Stratton announced that he would prefer to be called Luke Henry (he's 6) - what a character!

Whatever you name him/her will be perfect!

I'm actually hoping that people will give their opinions, both good and bad. I'd rather hear bad things about a name before I name him that rather than after. BTW, I think Stratton is cute for a little boy. Also, very regal for a grown man. I tend to like those kinds of names, like the last name names, Spencer, Mason, Carter, Cooper... All cute.

Cheri A Contributor

 Guhlia Goose Guhl!

Too funny on Stratton deciding to be Luke Henry now too!! My dd has done something similiar. She decided for a short time last year that she didn't like the way we spelled her name - Carleigh and wrote it as Carly for while. She told us we "spelled her name wrong"!

Angie ~ I was playing with your list a bit and came up with a few suggestions. I really like most of the names on your list.

Donovan Avery Guhl (to match Dh's initials)

Donovan Henry Guhl

Donovan Beckett Guhl

Grayson Beckett Guhl

Grayson Henry Guhl

Trevor William Guhl (ok William wasn't on your list)

Nicholas Charles Guhl (JK - that's my son's name)

jerseyangel Proficient

Grayson Beckett Guhl--I like that. :D

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.
    • Colleen H
Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you
    • sleuth
Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.
    • Scott Adams
Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.
    • Me,Sue
Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.
