Cat Litter

We've talked about the fact that some cat litters have gluten, I even found a lovely article on how someone patented an odor reducer that depends on gluten and how wonderful :P it is....

Does anyone know if EverClean is gluten-free? I think I'm getting glutened, and this is a possibility.

Not sure about that one but last I checked Arm and Hammers litter was safe. That's what I use.

I use the Exquisicat scoopable from Petsmart. It's a clay based litter.

I use Scoop Away--I called and verified it was gluten-free.

You can if you have room (in a dry place not a garden shed) buy bentonite in bulk... for a few $ a ton.(or just buy a 100lb sack).. this is the major deodoriser and adsorbant part.... I found you can cut it 50/50 or even 25/75 with sand...

Thanks all. I may switch litters, but we all know the upheaval that can cause furry old ladies!

when you switch just put back some pee soaked stuff for the first few days... and gradually replace it ...

you know cat's .. it's all about them :D

Can you guys post some of your cat litter recipes? I had no idea it was so versatile. Sorry, I couldn't resist... I'm not being snarky, it's just an amusing image- all of us desperate for food chowing down litter. Actually I appreciate the "head's up". With 5 cats clomping around in that stuff it never occured to me they were spreading the evil gluten! I think I'm switching to Arm and Hammer! Thanks!

My cat never liked to go in the house anyway... but sometimes he had to be locked inside for his vets appointment etc. butthe main thing just seemed to be he didn't like completely new litter ... you don't really need much obviously cats sense of smell is a lot better than ours but we used to mix in a bit of soil (which mostly was sandy) where he'd already peed... he'd always bitterly complain, I think he found the whole idea of going for a pee or poop in the house distasteful ... so we never had a problem him not using the litter and going elsewhere but he would try and hold it in and mew pityfully to go out...

Cats are such odd creatures aren't they. And they sure don't like those boxes messed with. I was walking past the room with my kitties boxes the other week. 2 were standing in the doorway in total dismay watching my little dog lift his leg to use their box. Even after I changed it they didn't want to use that box for days. I keep a closer eye on the little dog now and at least I know he has something other than a chair leg if he is desperate.

I have been looking for new dishes. I was surprised to find dishes made of wheat straw. Are these safe for us? I'm very careful to avoid products that may contain gluten. I never thought I might have to check for wheat in dishes.

Going on a cruise next week and I’m a celiac. Bought a bottle of GliandinX. Should I just take two tablets per day as a precaution? Never tried this before!! Any help is appreciated!!
