My neighbor who has also been such an great friend passed away yesterday. She got up and thought she just had major heart burn, so she wasnt too worried, then the pain got very bad and the ambulance came and got her, and she had an massive heart attack. She leaves behind 3 wonderful children, one will graduate this yr, one will get her license and one is in 6th grade. When she found out that me and my son might have celiac, she went home and looked it up, cause she wanted to be informed, since we do bbq's in the summer and out kids share snacks and food all summer long. When i had my last daughter and she was in the hospital running lots of test on her cause they thought something was wrong with her, she sat at the hospital with us for hours.

I keep thinking she will be knociking on my doot at any minute to talk about all the snow we are having, every time i look over at her house i start to cry. This summer will not be the same. I miss her so much.

We took over lots of food last night, but i want to make them a big meal, cause family is coming from all over, im just at lost at what to make that they will like and that i can cook.

Thanks for reading this, i just had to get it out.

Paula,

I am very sorry to hear about your friend. She seems so young to have gone, by the family you described. She also sounded like a wonderful person to know. You know she has wings. Our prayers are with you during this tough time.

Thanks everyone, she was 55. I told my hubby today at least now she is reunited with her son, that passed away many years ago.

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

Could you make, meatloaf, roasted chicken, augratin potatoes, mashed pot. casserole(mashed w/ cream cheese etc. and put in a dish and baked) broccoli rice casserole, salads, gelatin desserts? These are easily done gluten-free and no one would know and your kitchen wouldn't be contaminated.

((Paula)) ~ I'm so sorry! My prayers are with you and her family.

Since you are their neighbor, you will be a great support for your friend's family and be able to bring them food later. When my father passed away, we had a ton of food come in and noone wanted to eat anything. I think my mom would have liked the support later on when everyone "gets on with their lives" and kind of forgets.

Paula, I am sorry you lost your friend and wonderful neighbour. I know it will be hard this summer, when you know you would do barbecues and she isn't there. I will be praying for you, your family and her family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm praying for you all.

I was thinking a beef stew or chicken soup, maybe some veggies and dip. Healthy eating is something that nobody wants to deal with, but if it's in front of them it's easy and comforting to eat. It's also something that someone can eat just a little bit of if they're not in the mood to eat, and you still know they're getting some good food in their bodies.

Last night we took a meat and veggie tray, some rolls, 4 galloons of milk and 2 cases of pop. When we went up to the door the husband was in tears. He had lost his job about 10 months ago.

For now i am trying not to go around alot, cause people are coming and going all day and night long. What is so sad is her mom is coming, and the mom isnt even supposed to come here, cause of our high altitude, and the mom only has like a few months to live. I keep praying nothing happens while she is here, i dont know what it would do to those kids.

I already have plans for mothers day. Bonnie always wanted rose bushes all over her yard but since money was tight last yr she couldnt afford any. So I am going to go buy 3 rose bushes and have the kids plant them for mothers day.

The kids were alaways over here, I plan on them being here even more this summer. My mom even said I will need to take them clothes shopping and do motherly stuff with them.

I am so sorry for your loss. She was the same age my Mom was when she 'went home' to join my twin brother. That thought gave me great comfort at the time. It is always so hard to miss someone you love. I'm so sorry it is always so hard on those left behind.

Thank you all for your kind words. You dont know how much it means to me.

It is so sad I keep looking outside and the husband is always out there with the dog just walking around aimlessly. All the family is coming in today, so I am going to make a big batch of green chili, and I am not sure what else yet. My parents are coming up tommorow and bringing up some food and money for them.

Last year my parents were driving up here in their new truck and they got an flat. My dad could not figure out how to get the spare tire out and while trying to he broke the jack. And I knew my husband wouldnt be great at trying to fix it lol. so my neighbors without hesitation jumped on their motorcycles and went and helped my parents that were about 40 miles away.

Thanks everyone. The funeral will be tuesday, it is only going to be a small memorial service.

Today I am going to cook up some stuff and take it over. They have so much family coming in. Yesterday I seen the little girl, her cheeks and eyes were so red from crying. That is the one i feel so bad for.

Paula ~ just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you and saying a prayer for you, your friend's family and all those that love her. I know that today will be incredibly difficult and I pray for peace and strength for all of you.

confused Community Regular

Thank you cheri.

I just got back from the service. It was so sad. The kids got up and talked and i was bawling like an baby. I didnt want to come home after the service, I drove around for awhile. As i drove up I pictured her on the stairs smoking her cigarette asking me where I was. and telling me to come over.

I am so going to miss her.

Awww.. ((hugs)). Her children must be incredibly strong to be able to get up and talk at the service. My father passed away when I was 17 and I could not get up and do that then.

I hope that you can draw strength from your happy memories of her and know that she will be watching over you and her family now. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers.

Thank you, they are very strong kids. They all went back to school yesterday. I have tired to give them all space for a few days just cause they had so many around for the week and now its time they figure out how to be a family with out bonnie. I do plan on going over this weekend to see if any of them want to hang out with me at the soccer games on saturday.

Hi,  I care for my seven year old daughter with Celiac. After watching her for months, I have figured out that she has problem with two kinds of fats- animal fat and cooking oils. It basically makes her intestine sore enough that she feels spasms when she is upset. It only happens on days when she has eaten more fat than her usual every day diet. (Her usual diet has chia seeds, flaxseeds, and avocado/ pumpkin seeds for fat and an occasional chicken breast.) I stopped using cooking oils last year, and when I reintroduced eggs and dairy, both of which I had held off for a few months thinking it was an issue of the protein like some Celiac patients habe mentioned to be the case, she has reacted in the same fashion as she does with excess fats. So now I wonder if her reaction to dairy and eggs is not really because of protein but fat.   I don't really have a question, just wondering if anyone finds this familiar and if it gets better with time.  Thank you.

Hello, My name is Chanda and you are not the only one that gose through the same things. I have found that what's easiest for me is finding a few meals each week that last. I have such severe reactions to gluten that it shuts my entire body down. I struggle everyday with i can't eat enough it feels like, when I eat more I lose more weight. Make sure that you look at medication, vitamins and shampoo and conditioner also. They have different things that are less expensive at Walmart.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!
