Whole Foods Gluten Free Items

This is my first post and i'd just like to say that this website has really helped me!

Anyways, I noticed that Whole Foods Market has a new line of gluten-free items that claim to be 100% gluten free and are made by "good manufacturing" but this week I tried the gluten-free sandwich bread and i've had slight stomach aches and problems with "dumping my garbage" (sorry if TMI). Does anyone know a decent-tasting gluten-free bread that doesn't taste like sawdust and won't make me sick?

i use the "gluten free pantry" brand white bread mix, its about as close to the real thing your going to get. the frozen stuff at whole foods is horrible imho.i use a bread maker and use the 2lb mix or you can make a 1lb and halve the ingrediants.the stuff at whole foods tastes pretty good as french toast for breakfast though...good luck finding one you like

Food4life Rice Almond is really good and so is Kinnikinnick Brown Bread...I eat the brown bread every day. The white bread is also pretty good. The only problem is it falls apart easily but the taste is worth it. Try it - you may like it. KarenDianne

I was satisfied w/ the Food4Life bread until my sister made me a gluten-free loaf in a breadmachine. I bought a machine of my own w/in days and never bought a loaf in a store again.

I usually used Bob's Red Mill mix and never had anything but a fantastic loaf, despite the numerous stupid mistakes I made.

Even my non-celiac little nieces loved it so much they'd ask for it every time they were over. (That may have been the warm-and-fresh factor)

Whole foods bread makes me sick too...the only bread that I think tastes half way decent is the millet bread from DeLand Bakery and now they're making you order a minimum of 24 loaves to get, so I haven't had bread in awhile...

:D hi , i found a white bread, banana bread, carrot muffin and english muffin that is to die for. you can even eat the bread without toasting it. i have also just placed an order for their pizza crust. i had some of the pizza when i went to cape cod for vacation. i wish i lived closer because i would be there weekly. the name of the place is good juju bakery . i will post the web site. my last order i place i doubled everything and i can't say enough about it. they lady who started the bakery her name is judith mann and she has celiac and her food is fantastic. the web site is... www.goodjujubakery.com

i love the food and everything i have eaten so far i have had no problems. my children love the banana bread as well as the muffins. i encourage anyone to try them. good luck on your bread search. i will never buy another bread at whole foods unless i am making my own bread crumbs.

Hmm, I was just starting to suspect WF bread was making me sick as well..trying to figure out which of the ingredients is causing it. I always keep some Prarie Bread on hand at home and have been plagued with ongoing GI problems even after being gluten-free for almost 3 years.

Anyway- be careful with Deland..I got seriously sick from their Millet bread a year or so ago. There was discussion on other boards re: DeLand's labeling and manufacturing practices, not sure if they have resolved their issues.

But just tasted another millet bread (from a dry mix) from Tracey's Treats- closest thing to 'real' bread I've tasted yet..light texture, not crumbly. www.traceystreats.com

      I'm 67 and have been celiac for 17yrs. I had cataract surgery and they put a gluten lens in my eye. Through a lot of research, I found out about MMA acrylic...it contains gluten. It took 6 months for me to find a DR that would remove it and replace it with a gluten-free lens . I have lost some vision in that eye because of it . I also go to a prosthodontist instead of a regular dentist because they are specialized. He has made me a night guard and a few retainers with no issues... where my regular dentist didn't care. I have really bad reactions to gluten and I'm extremely sensitive, even to CC. I have done so much research on gluten-free issues because of these Drs that just don't care. Gluten is in almost everything shampoo, lotion, food, spices, acrylic, medication even communion wafers! All of my Drs know and believe me I remind them often.... welcome to my world!

      If this applies geographically, in the U.K., physicians will often declare a diagnosis of celiac disease based on the TTG-IGA antibody blood test alone if the score is 10x normal or greater, which your score is. There is very little chance the endoscopy/biopsy will contradict the antibody blood test.

      What was the reference range for that test? Each lab uses different reference ranges so a raw score like that makes it difficult to comment on. But it looks like a rather large number.

      I have had the tTG-IgA blood test my result are >250.0  I am waiting for the appointment with the gastroenterologist for endoscopy and biopsies.    what are the chances it’s not coeliacs.  waiting and not knowing is so hard. Especially the eating of gluten knowing it may be causing you more harm and coping with the symptoms.
