Dried Fruit Vs Regular

When I am at school I sometimes stop in the convienience store on campus and pick up something to eat if I feel super hungry. There are only a few gluten-free products there, one of which is dried apples by "bare fruit" which is labled "gluten-free" right on the bag.

I never have a prob with regular apples or really any whole fruit, but it seems dried stuff just turns me into a gas machine...nothing compared to gluten of course...

anyone else like this, or know why???

The sugar in dried fruit is condensed and slightly carmelized. Not to mention it is "dry" fiber and you can eat A LOT more dried than you could whole and fresh. Apart from having concentrated sugar, dried fruit is usually preserved with sulphur which can also cause gas and stomach cramps, D as well.

the dried apples I bought are organic and have nothing added to them.

but good to know I'm not the only one! this stinks since I love dried fruit too :(

Dried fruit is high in mold content. If you're sensitive to moldy foods you may get these types of symptoms with the dried fruit.....and yet be fine with the regular fresh fruit.

I get the same way and I love dried fruit. :( I've tried dried pineapple, mango, papaya, raisins, craisins and apples. Each bothered me with the more I ate. If I just have a handful I'm usually fine. If I get totally addicted to it (which I usually do with dried fruit), I get very bad stomach aches. I've kind of just avoided it lately. Such a shame... :(

Dried fruit also bothers me. I can eat it in very small amounts.

Fresh fruit has been bothering me lately too. It could be the amount I was eating (like 5 servings/day), but I love this season of the year for fruit and eat it all day long! I had to stop. I was so bloated & gassy and in pain. Yesterday I had no fruit...huge improvement. Today, just a peach. I am bumming as there are strawberries, blueberries, pears, cantaloupe, apples, plums, peaches & bananas all waiting to be eaten! Fortunately the kids will eat some of that.

I can handle the dried dates in Lara bars fine (usually have either a whole one or just half).

But the whole dried dates at Whole Foods I get a mild reaction to.

Don't know if it's the sulfur or some gluten in a dusting of something to keep the fruit from sticking.

Ah, the food adventure!

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
