Hi everyone,

Hope people are on their way to health or maintaining health. Is Breyer's ice cream gluten-free? I find I have not a minute lately to be on the phone for anything not work or family related. Thank you for your time in advance.

Here is what the website says:

Is there Gluten in your products?:

Unilever Ice Cream is a member of the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network and the Food Allergy Resource and Research Program.

We recommend consumers read the label each time before buying our product.

If gluten is present, it is clearly listed in plain language on the ingredient label (i.e., wheat flour, rye, barley, oats, and malt).

We do not publish a list of gluten-free flavors.

We work closely with ingredient and packaging suppliers to verify gluten in all ingredient components including natural flavors, colors, and spices.

Some flavorings may contain ethyl alcohol. However, because the alcohol is distilled, they would not pose a threat to anyone who is gluten intolerant.

We apologize for any inconvenience, but it

I have been avoiding ice cream becasue of the casein in the milk but i have tried the valilla lactose free and it has been agreeing with me.

I don't eat it often but it has been ok so far. The ingredients are pretty straight forward.

Eddy's ice creams are gluten free. They even list them on their site.

Thank you, Skinny-chic.

Not all of Edy's are gluten free - only some - the ones listed on their website.

My son and I eat Edy's Double Vanilla without any problems.

Back when I still ate sugar and milk, I had zero problem with Breyers. My gut says it is gluten-free. And mostly chemical free, I might add. A good choice if you're going to eat ice cream.

Wow, that sounds so great. A treat is in my future!

Thanks, Pele,

I tried the Breyers Vanilla Lactose free ice cream and thought it was pretty good. I put some Nestle's chocolate chunks on it. It was a nice treat to have. I don't do ice cream a lot because it never seemed to sit to well in the tummy, even before dx. I had absolutely no problems with it! :D

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
