Will there be any future meetings? I have just been diagnosed and would appreciate the opportunity to meet with others and learn from their experiences.

The gluten-free cooking demonstration was repeated the past Saturday at the Whole Foods in Fairlakes. I don't have the specific dates but another is scheduled in October. The store website has a calendar of events.

Oops, well, actually there was a meeting yesterday in Arlington. Sorry, I didn't think to post it in this thread.

Dr. Gary Kaplan talked about celiac and treatment for low Vitamin D, magnesium, and thyroid hormones.

Dr. Kaplan had the talk filmed so it may be available on his website soon. There were about 60 or 70 people at the meeting.

If you join the Washington DC celiac group on Yahoo, they send out news and meeting plans etc. They also organize monthly celiac dinner outings. Susan Flinn is the lead for the Yahoo group. Definitely a good group to join for celiac news around the metro area.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
