Applesauce

We eat a lot of applesauce. I just called Motts to make sure that their natural flavors in the cinnamon applesauce are gluten free. They are. All Motts products are gluten free. They are a little expensive though. Does anyone know if other brands are gluten free? I put the single serve cinnamon ones in packed lunches. Is all applesauce gluten free? I don't think I have ever seen one that has gluten but then again, I have been surprised before. The store brands are less expensive.

I've never seen one that has gluten, although when I buy applesauce I always buy the "natural" variety and not anything flavored.

My children will only eat the cinnamon ones. I pack them in their lunches.

trader joe's apple sauce is not listed as gluten-free.  why on earth would it not be gluten-free!?!  I am so frustrated with labeling!

Welcome to the forum, pippy! :)

Do note that this thread is five years old and product information may have changed in that time.  Store gluten-free lists are not all-encompassing.  As far as applesauce goes, check the ingredients and if there is no gluten ingredient and no allergen statement, you are going to be fine eating it.

thank you!  does that go for everything, such as canned beans, canned milk, etc?

Yes. If the can only lists the item such as beans and perhaps an ingredient like 'citric acid', salt and water it will be fine. If you are talking about something like baked beans read the whole ingredient list.  The key is to make sure to read the whole label. Wheat will always be declared and it is very, very rare for something like barley to be hidden if it ever happens at all.

Thank you so very much.  This group is proving to be very helpful. :P

Motts concern: Did anyone else have sensitivity issues with flavored applesauce?

My daughter had moderate sensitivity to the Blueberry and Strawberry Motts gluten free applesauce. However she's has no issues to frozen or fresh blueberries and strawberries.  I'm using non flavored " Simply Nature" gluten free from ALDI, and she's having no issues! She'll be scoped again by a new GI to retest for EOE....hopefully this test will help! Her new GI is very caring and thorough!

Congrats! Can you share the recipe? We just picked up a bread maker from an estate sale and are experimenting.
