I'm so excited to share with you all that my husband and I are finally pregnant! I give all credit (well, most, we did do a *few* things to contribute ;) lol) to kicking the gluten out of my life. My husband and I decided back in May (before we got married in June) for me to discontinue my Depo, knowing that it could take a while to get out of my system and that we were on a somewhat more limited time frame than most couples are (I'm 35 and he's 40.). I had my annual in August and my obgyn was concerned about me not having started having periods after the three months off the Depo. She wanted to give me a shot immediately to trigger periods (not ovulation, just periods), but I wasn't yet ready to go that direction. In mid-Sept, I went gluten free right after my colonoscopy/EGD (which was done incorrectly so I still have no 'official' diagnosis, but I feel completely confident in saying that I have Celiac w/ DH). By mid-Oct my period started. My obgyn suggested I get an OPK just to see whether or not I was ovulating, telling me not to worry too much about it as I probably would not ovulate for a few months (at least), but that this would be good information to know. Well, low and behold, I was ovulating from the get-go. That first one was a miss, but I ovulated for the second time right after Thanksgiving. Thinking it was probably still a few days to early, but just feeling a very strong urge to do so, I did a home test yesterday afternoon. Again, I was thinking that it was too early and that since I was not using my first morning urine, I would likely get a negative even if I were, in fact, preggo. Immagine my surprise when I got not only a positive, but a VERY STRONG positive! I had to do a double take and then check the thing to make sure that I was reading it correctly! Words cannot even begin to describe how thrilled we are, though it still seems a bit surreal to me right now.

Congrats to you and your hubby! I found out last week I am expecting #2 and am due 8-9, so we can be gluten free pregnancy buddies! Just yesterday the urgent need to eat (or otherwise vomit) kicked in, so I have to make sure I have plenty of snacks with me wherever I go :). Best of luck to you!

Thank you everyone! The reality is just beginning to sink in. The positive home test is still sitting on the bathroom counter. I know I should throw it away, but it helps me to look at it to know that I'm not just dreaming. I did get a positive confirmation from the blood test at my doctor's office yesterday. They want me to have my first maternity appointment within the next two weeks at the latest, given that I'm officially of "Advanced Maternal Age"...gotta LOVE that phrase...lol I'm only 35, not 90!

I've been having the strangest dreams and have been waking up earlier than normal. I've had weird headaches. I've been *really* indecisive about what I want to eat. Looking forward to the next nine months!

The weird, vivid dreams are normal, as well as any other weird thing that you think, crave, etc. Pregnancy can be quite funny if you keep a certain perspective.

Don't force yourself to eat anything that turns your stomach, just keep up with your supplaments and remember everything will pass and soon enough you'll be meeting him/her and the adventures will begin.

Welcome to the forum, @Trish G! "Gluten free" does not necessarily equate to "no gluten". According to FDA standards it actually means that a food product contains no more than 20ppm of gluten. This is safe for most celiacs but would not be for those who are on the more sensitive end of the spectrum. So, it would depend on the individual celiac and their level of sensitivity to minor amounts of gluten. That's the long and nuanced answer. The short answer is that it is a product derived from wheat and so you can be certain it will contain some residual amounts of gluten. No gluten removal process is 100% effective. So, to be absolutely certain, stay away from it. Have you tried chia seeds? Very high in fiber and quickly turns into a gel when added to water. Make sure you get seeds that are gluten free if you decide to try it.

I was taking Benefiber for my IBS-C before my celiac diagnosis. It does say Gluten Free but lists Wheat Dextrin on the label. I really dont like psyllium fiber, so is there anything else I can take or is the Benefiber really ok for someone with Celiac disease?  Thanks!!!

Abdominal pain and an itchy stomach were the symptoms I asked to see a GI about. Now I’ve learned these other symptoms—that I have but attributed to other issues—could also be related to celiac disease:  fatigue joint pain canker sores numbness or tingling in hands or feet difficulty with coordination anemia headaches neutropenia I never dreamed in a million years she would consider celiac disease. It was a shock to me. It’s definitely not what I went to her for.

@Rejoicephd, I'm not a doctor, but I experienced severe thiamine deficiency.  Your symptoms seem really familiar.  Malabsorption is a real thing that happens with Celiac.  A multivitamin is not going to prevent nor correct nutritional deficiencies.    Doctors do not recognize nutritional deficiency symptoms.  Gastrointestinal Beriberi is not recognized often.  Caused by thiamine deficiency, high dose thiamine supplements or IV administration with other vitamins, minerals and glucose under doctor's care is needed.   Thiamine deficiency is found in anemia.  Thiamine deficiency in the kidneys can result in electrolyte imbalances and cloudy urine.  Thiamine deficiency can cause high blood sugar which can cause cloudy urine.  Dehydration can cause cloudy urine.   I'm linking some PubMed articles.  You see if your symptoms match.  Discuss the possibility of Gastrointestinal Beriberi with one of your specialists soon!  Just to rule it out.  I'm very concerned.   I'm linking some PubMed articles.  You see if your symptoms match.   Thiamine, gastrointestinal beriberi and acetylcholine signaling https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12014454/#ref3 From Section 3: "In conclusion, TD limited to the gastrointestinal system may be an overlooked and underdiagnosed cause of the increasingly common gastrointestinal disorders encountered in modern medical settings. Left unattended, it may progress to wet or dry beriberi, most often observed as Wernicke encephalopathy.". . And... Refeeding Syndrome https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK564513/

What are your symptoms? What has brought you to the point where you sought celiac disease testing?
