Just wanted to share something I stumbled on for anyone dealing with sensative scalp issues. I don't have dandruff but my scalp had been burning from (what I thought was) an incident with hairspray that didn't go away once I tossed the can. I had small sores on my scalp and around my neck where my hair touches my skin. So I tried a medicated shampoo for dandruff and I am finally getting some relief!

What brand did you use?

I have a burning itch all the time on the left side of my head. It eases sometimes but never goes away. No rash or redness or flakes. Gets worse when I have wheat cc. I was also thinking a dandruff shampoo might help. All my hair products are gluten-free.

Seborrheic dermatitis???

Mine was greatly reduced last year(~90% better) after 20 years. My best guess is that the improvement lines up with taking a B100 complex daily.

I had seen some improvement using medicated shampoos or rinsing my scalp with salt water.

I apologize if we are talking about two different conditions.

Head and Shoulders.....I think I was using a gluten-free shampoo before. I had been using the original Pantene for a long time without any problems. When I started having issues was when I tried a different hairspray. My scalp felt burnt and itchy mostly on the top and I guess that's why I thought it was the hairspray. I tossed the hairspray and at the same time switched to a different Pantene shampoo and unfortunately the itch and burn did not go away.

Thank you. I will look this up and see if the systems match what I am dealing with. I have never heard of B100. Vits have helped me with everything, could be exactly what I need.

If that doesn't work, try Nizoral.

It's kind of expensive, but I also get red sores/flakiness. Normal dandruff shampoos didn't work, even with daily use.

Now, I use Nizoral two days in a row once a month and all my problems are gone.

There are different types of dandruff, if you're talking about dandruff and not some other situation. Some dandruff is caused by an excess of a certain bacteria that does not respond to Head and Shoulders or Selsun Blue. Nizoral will kick it.

In fact, my brother had the same problem. After fighting my advice for a year, I poured some of mine in a little bottle and took it to him. Now he wishes he had listened to me sooner!

Thanks for that info. I did some reading and found out that seborrheic dermatitis is yeast on the scalp that can be helped out by using an anti-fugal cream. I may try that too.

Thanks for all this info.

I think I will try Omega 3 for a while before changing shampoo again.

I was using Suave and my hair got pretty dry so switched to Pantene and it didn't help so switched to Garnier Fructus Pure. I like it better, hair is softer but the itch and burn is still there.

How much Omega 3 should I take?

I was having that same itch/burn I figured it might be gluten in my shampoo ( Suave Rosemary & Mint). So I switched to Head and Shoulders it helped but it didn't entirely stop it.

Now I am using Dr Bronners Peppermint Soap, I finally have full relief, I am guessing there might be gluten in head and shoulders also but that it was still helping with the medicine in it. I highly recommend Dr Bronners....at this point I am using it as face wash too.

Thanks, I appreciate your reply. Today I was looking at various shampoos and picked up some T-gel conditioner but will see if I can find the Peppermint soap.

B100 is a mix of all of the b vitamins. The "100" refers to the amount (milligrams or micrograms depending on the vitamin) of each of the components.

I did check this out and compared to what I am currently taking. The only thing my Nerve Support supplement lacks is the B5. I am finding that the drandruff shampoo and the T-gel conditioner is working.

thank you RMJ! That is very helpful advice. Good to know we aren’t crazy if we don’t do the endoscopy. We are going to try the gluten free and see how symptoms and levels improve.    thank you Wheatwacked (love the username lol) that is also reassuring. Thankfully she has an amazing and experienced pediatrician. And yesss I forgot to mention the poop! She has the weirdest poop issues.    How long did it take y'all to start seeing improvement in symptoms?
    • Wheatwacked
My son was diagnosed when he was weaned in 1976 after several endoscopies.  Given your two year old's symptoms and your family history and your pediatrition advocating for the dx, I would agree.  Whether an endoscopy is positive or negative is irrelevant.   That may happen even with endoscopy.  Pick your doctors with that in mind. In the end you save the potential trauma of the endoscopy for your baby.   Mine also had really nasty poop.  His doctor started him on Nutramigen Infant because at the time it was the only product that was hypo allergenic and had complete nutrition. The improvement was immediate.

So her tissue transglutaminase antibody is almost 4x the upper end of the normal range - likely a real result. The other things you can do besides an endoscopy would be: 1.  Genetic testing.  Unfortunately a large proportion of the population has genes permissive for celiac disease, but only a small proportion of those with the genes have it. With family history it is likely she has the genes. 2.  Try a gluten free diet and see if the symptoms go away AND the antibody levels return to normal. (This is what I would do). Endoscopies aren’t always accurate in patients as young as your daughter. Unfortunately, without an endoscopy, some doctor later in her life may question whether she really has celiac disease or not, and you’ll need to be a fierce mama bear to defend the diagnosis! Be sure you have a good written record of her current pediatrician’s diagnosis. Doing a gluten challenge for an endoscopy later in life could cause a very uncomfortable level of symptoms.   Having yourself, your husband and your son tested would be a great idea.

here are the lab ranges.  Normal ranges for tissue transglutaminase are: <15.0 Antibody not detected > or = 15.0 Antibody detected normal for endomysial antibody is < 1.5. So she is barely positive but still positive.
