Hair Loss And Rogaine

Baby P

Has any one tried Rogaine for their hair loss? There are so many mixed reviews on the results and most say you lose more hair at the beginning of the treatment, kinda scary. I have been gluten free for 1 1/2 years and have resolved so many health issues but my hair loss is not one of them. Any input would be great before I make a decision to try Rogaine.

I suggest Biotin and a daily multivitamin daily. :)

A natural source for Biotin would be to eat liver. Most American diets are severely lacking Biotin.

I'm currently trying it. My doctor recommended it and she uses it. I do feel baby hairs growing, but my hair is still filling out. I'm also taking biotin and vitamin B. and I bought gluten-free shampoo. Maybe it all just takes time.

I have been using Rogaine. I have hair loss that I think is caused by using statins. I think this because I was put on a statin and insulin at the same time. At first I thought the insulin was to blame. My SIL is a nurse. I was talking to her and she said her sister who was also put on insulin around the same time I was, was also losing her hair.

But eventually I noticed other side effects from the statin. Like memory loss. It got very bad. I quit it. Almost immediately, my hair grew back.

Then the Dr. put me on another statin. Hair fell out within days of taking it. All the new hair, gone! My lips were peeling off and my skin was very dry. Also the memory loss and muscle pain!

This time after I stopped the statin, the hair did not start growing back right away. I tried a cream. It made my hair oily. I tried an oil. It didn't make my hair oily but it smelled bad.

Then I tried the Rogaine. I am almost at the end of my 2nd month. I believe it says in the information about it that you won't see new growth until about the 3 month mark. But I am seeing some new growth so I think perhaps it is just natural and maybe not from the Rogaine at all. Hard to tell.

One thing for certain, my hair is growing a lot faster. That's not necessarily good because it already grew pretty fast. I find I have to have it trimmed about every month and a half now or my bangs are in my eyes.

I used BioSil drops and zinc.

I was going to try Rogaine a while back but since it, at least at that time, contained wheat protein I put it back on the shelf. For me both gluten and soy cause hair loss.

Biotin, vitamins and gluten-free haircare products are all good suggestions. I would also suggest you make sure you are well hydrated. Before my celiac was diagnosed and under control, I had terrible problems with dehydration and among my many symptoms, was constantly losing my hair. Even now, if I get dehydrated for any reason (not drinking enough water when I exercise, for example), I will experience hair loss afterwards. Just something else to keep in mind.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!
