Glutened Ugh! What Do You Think Got Me?

I am not really sure what even got me.

Friday I had a salad, Grilled Chicken Salad with cheese, and ranch dressing....this was ordered for me, this is one of the foods I had the least control over. I don't know the brand of dressing.

Saturday I had, a greek salad, with feta, black olives, tomatoes, and Newman's Own Greek Dressing....and 4 homebrewed root beers. The root beers are the most iffy thing to me?

I have NOT been very sensative to my knowledge.

The side of my hand is broke out in a hundred blisters, its not as bad as when I got a lot of gluten before Christmas. Its not nearly as itchy annoying or as broke out....so I am guessing thats an indication that I got less gluten this time.

Any ideas? I am done eating out for awhile. I was getting too relaxed about making sure I was gluten free.

My guess goes to the root beer or the salad dressing... CC could also be there...feel better soon.

You're not giving us a lot to go on here. Sounds like some might have been restauraunt food & some from a friend's house? The grilled chicken from the restauraunt could have been marinated with soy sauce or lightly coated with flour before cooking? Normally, root beer wouldn't be an issue. Didn't you ask the friend who made it what was in it? It's hard to know what may have caused your issues because you didn't ask any questions before eating any of this food? I guess you'll know to bring your own food next time.

I don't know how to make a homebrewed rootbeer, but you should look that up.

Barring that, there are a number of possibilities that may seem safe, but depending on brand, might not be, like the salad dressing, the feta, and the chicken. Barring that, you may have just encountered some cross-contamination since it sounds like you ate out.

The Friday lunch was ordered from a place for Work. Ugh. I looked it up, it was marinated broiled chicken...it sure didn't look or taste like it though. ugh.

I guess...what I didn't think about though was Saturday the whole meal, root beer was at a Beer Brewery...maybe it was a huge CC issue?

Okay....I am almost completely positive it was the root beer now. I did some research and some places use brewer's yeast, derived from beer to make root beer. Seeing it was a brewery I wouldn't be surprised if thats what they used. I called them to ask their ingredients but they have yet to return my call.

That is more info. Sounds like the first salad chicken likely was a problem. Since you ordered the second salad, you probably asked about it. Could be cc with cooking the chicken on a grill with bread crumbs stuck on it or they removed the croutons before serving it to you. Root beer made at a brewery could definetly have many issues. I think the one near here only makes root beer in the root beer vat but they could also make beer in it. The ingredients they use would be "better" than canned RB made by Coca Cola or Pepsi.

I think you have just learned that you must be responsible for your own food choices. Ask questions & if you can't get good answers or the answers are iffy, eat your own food. Always carry a packet of nuts and some candy or Lara bar type things, etc. Maybe make sure people at work see how bad your hands look so they will take the " allergy" seriously.

Interesting, when I suffered for a few months with ectopics I noticed that carbohydrates would cause indigestion and bloating in my stomach, then that would lead to my heart skipping beats, and I could feel it in my throat, it was very unsettling.  My last serious bout of this was after eating a Muller Rice Pudding for breakfast.   I happened to be wearing a 48 hour halter at the time and cardiology picked it up, but they weren't worried about what they saw. There was some British doctor who'd made some videos on the Vagus nerve that I remember watching at the time which made sense of what I was experiencing, there did seem to be some sort of connection.

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.
